It's interesting to see how they originally marketed The Simpsons (this came out in 1990). Everyone expected Bart to be the main character, and as such he was in all the merchandise, computer games, clothing etc. It didn't take long for them to realise that Homer was the breakout character, and the merch was altered accordingly.

Been after one of these for a while. In the glory days when you could advertise fags on toys!

'Miss Embassy' was a real thing, but I suppose you already knew that

But did anyone do the JPS powerboats?

Does seem a opportunity missed to sell JPS fags to children too

After all a similar powerboat was produced for Carlsberg and Spindrift sets

Yes got that set.  Well did have the trailer but it broke and is long gone

But what about the boats.  I don't do boats.  But wondered.

I had the Lotus JPS set, but one that I have no idea what happened to it, maybe my mun chucked it out, I don't know but wish I had it now. Mrs Concern has the Embassy boat with no trailer.

A mate of mine had an Elan Sprint in the 80s, got rid as he couldn't get away from the idea that it looked like a fag packet in the gutter when parked!

Hot on the heels of the newly released Maestro, check out what's just appeared in Oxford Diecast's launch schedule

Untitled.png.22d08b73ddb413f6acba864a43e190b2.png

A model Metro is very welcome but I fear Oxford have made a boo-boo. I don't know what shade Lady Di's Metro is, but it isn't vermillion.

This is vermillion:

This is not:

I hope they get it the right colour as my mum had one identical to this (WRP 20W, sadly and very definitely dead).

I don't do buses and coaches either

And why?  The one and only UK registered 1985 N117/2 Neoplan Spaceliner was operated by four firms in its lifetime

I read that the reason why these coaches never sold in large numbers was probably due the UK tilt test being tougher than in Germany.  Because there are no passenger seats downstairs, it had to pass the single deck test in UK

But did you know about the different helmets?

I didn't and lost sleep over helmets.

They are in fact completely different driver mouldings

Every time I strip a casting I'm struck by the lovely detail that's on them

20230414_155214.thumb.jpg.b2cb59d041e141ebfaa27f63eb06949b.jpg20230414_155225.thumb.jpg.a14e8a14d340aae463add065b8200713.jpg20230414_155220.thumb.jpg.382b9cdab62003b6d0dc35ba17485aa7.jpg

OK Corgi did their usual slightly odd raised door shuts, but it's a pretty good effort all the same.

I have to say thanks to @eddyramrodfor giving this one a good start in life - the plastic bumpers/grille section is in absolutely perfect shape with no work needed other than paint, and the wheels looked like they'd never touched the ground. Shame really as they're not staying on it!

Why did Corgi always choose such bizarre towcars? There's no way that X1/9 could tow that massive trailer. The Daytona could, but probably had no towing weight declared and where the heck would you get a towbar to fit it?

Yes I particularly like the Leyland Olympian in the marathons, always keeping an eye out for one for the fleet.

I have these by 4 different manufacturers and the Majorette is by far and away the best, with its separate yellow headlamps, grey bumpers and accurate badges. I've had mine nearly 30 years and still love it.

One of my first toy cars was a majorette simca alpine, I’m assuming because my dad had one.

The fags on toys thing is quite annoying. I get not advertising to kids, but to stop the placement on collectors models is daft.

Here's a couple of Spark Lotus transporters to show how the rules are applied.

First we have a Gold Leaf version that comes with all the livery on the model.

DSCF1663.thumb.JPG.72607ae2c0a758eefb81745608791b40.JPG

DSCF1667.thumb.JPG.eb364ae993344d6636b224c9cdf99dca.JPG

DSCF1669.thumb.JPG.d956adc99db5a658ecf25242bce0a1c9.JPG

Then we have the JPS version

DSCF1670.thumb.JPG.05e0d5e3324af20a7086248719e6b84b.JPG

DSCF1673.thumb.JPG.455582bcc3b36677f00d9a6fdfc08e5a.JPG

DSCF1675.thumb.JPG.31257f6914051ebaffbd3a16dc26b7bf.JPG

Looks a bit bare, not to worry, the JPS stuff is attached to the base for you to stick on at your leasure.

Same colour as our Maxi then. Having had cars in both colours I'm not sure how anybody could confuse them as Carmine is much darker (more of a maroon) than Vermillion (which is a definite orange). I'll let Oxford know and hopefully they'll pay attention.

EDIT: someone on Facebook has now suggested it's Emberglow. There are too many similar shades of red in the BL palette!
