Found out I have an unregistered Kenner Fast 111 here

IMG_20230307_153051.jpg.001bc90bacafd3e74a63475090734bde.jpg

Going by the name Blue Monday it had the tampo Four X4

IMG_20230307_153141.jpg.2c77cb8f706d2537352683103eba8ce1.jpg

Modelled on the Chevrolet Blazer

IMG_20230307_153205.jpg.cf1619611ab42e6648875af1dc9c942b.jpg

It was later retooled into the Matchbox Blazer, although the differences are significant to my eye

Some Convoys jiggery-pokery earlier...

Despite having some sort of hitch mechanism moulded into the fifth wheel, for some inexplicable reason it's not-quite compatible with the late-era Lesney trailers from 40 years ago.

What an oversight. Tch.

320353781_IMG_20230306_1634562.thumb.jpg.9b3704dd69eaa9539fbe7ae9fc295078.jpg

Still, I reckon it looks quite decent as a full rig.

Box trailer on the back looks alright too...

...but the Shell logo on the rear quarter kinda begs for a tanker trailer.

I think I'm a little shaken by the realisation that my original early-80s Convoys are closer in age to the 1950s and 60s Majors than they are to the modern releases currently on the shelves...

It deserves a recolour perhaps, a new headlamp jewel and a fiddle with the glazing.  I'm pondering the delights* that might be in the Mini thread on Rod'n'Sods .co.uk to get ideas*

I was also tempted by a quite nice Dinky Ford Thames Atlas Copco in yellow as far as I could see complete for £4 and a Dinky Austin Landcrab in metalic blue, but missing tyres and bonnet for £2. I managed to resist.

You did well there. The Renner is a nice little model.

Might I suggest sir should definitely go back for the Copco truck! They’re very nice too.

@bunglebusThe Merc Sprinter model is one of 250 produced by Fire Brigade Models & although missing a few bits (the riot shield above the windscreen)  it will still be worth some coin on ebay as an ideal base for a code 3 model.

Boxed & complete would see circa £60 - £70 +

Eldorato might be an actual pronounciation variation ...which might explain the Eldorato Airport in Columbia.  But am not native Spanish speaker.

Would go well with the Lancia Storatus and the Racaing Jaguar XJ6

Don't know about you but I've given up finding a Sugar Daddy Eldorado.  Might be easier to make one!

I mentioned the other day that I had a couple of birthday related updates, so here goes.

Went to Auckland on Saturday, which gave me an opportunity to visit my favourite model shop in NZ (or indeed, favourite shop, full stop). Mrs_Jon waited patiently in the car and I had no cash on me, so spent wisely*, because shared account.

Raided the 50p tubs first:

20230307_104051.thumb.jpg.78b03c9df996fd2f217f8dec676f2dfb.jpg

Yatming Maserati Bora was a definite take home. Majorette Cherokee ambulance bought on condition rather than aesthetics, plus it was mildly a curio on tge basis of (peeling) stickers, not tampos.

20230307_104411.thumb.jpg.318d361a86498f0103a3be130dcef0e0.jpg

Colour changing Hotwheels 959 no longer does, so it's now permanently a sickly shade of 'high vis vest' orange, to mess with modern camera colour processors. Matchbox RS2000 bought for reminiscence of the 2 metallic green ones in the toy box, growing up. And surely you can't lose, at 50p?

Screenshot_20230309-095623_Gallery.jpg.88b153196ccd365fdb6aed16dcd2200e.jpg

Condition and subject also the catalyst for grabbing this Pop van, too. Only when I looked at it later did I notice the opening bonnet and name on the decal that's almost the same as mine. Again, didn't think I could lose on a Hotwheels 'English' Ford in good nick.

20230307_103436.thumb.jpg.c02449e8e19ae79b39bd6b25b92d1b8f.jpg

Then I saw this behind the till. Paid a bit for it but I did feel a bit tight arse leaving an independent model shop in 2023, operating on a weekend having spent a whopping £2.50.

Would have loved it if it was a green one tbh but I've not seen one of these since selling my very good condition red and green ones to I think @Lord Sterling in 2010, weeks before emigrating.

20230307_103449.thumb.jpg.34953fe4055c11bc858112609295fa06.jpg

I can understand that the rear card art demonstrated the array of diecasts on offer but barring the R5 and Golf, it's quite a lacklustre effort. Despite that, I think there was an example of each in mine and my brother's toy box!

Posted

Mrs_Jon had got in on the act too, buying me a couple of trinkets as a 'something to open on the day' effort, after I'd splurged a wodge of cash on a 2nd hand espresso machine and a grinder, in the name of birthday/upcoming kitchen improvements, a few weeks back.

20230307_103843.thumb.jpg.eccd7acd32a5d6ccf237693d7880d343.jpg

Judging by the efforts, she'd had a trip down the hill to the shops in town and it seems the newly opened charity shop had some diecasts in, as well as some quite appaling records (which I also received!).

This is quite fitting due to my fire service connections and there's still one of these locally dousing wet stuff on the hot stuff, which said brigade refuse to part with. Wish we could be that persuasive on not be lumbered with Ivecos.

20230307_103831.thumb.jpg.a22fd5b3d11266ee69bfb40b08e69610.jpg

Tyco era Matchbox Stingray is amusingly lurid but still preferable to the Hotwheels on the right, which is a later release of a 1979 casting, according to the wheels and base plate date. I think the more believable dimensions and sproingy suspension favour the MB preference.

Finally, look at this piece!

Screenshot_20230309-102959_Gallery.jpg.35debd3d925087ca9d03e767f40e9c49.jpg

Screenshot_20230309-102952_Gallery.jpg.d7b2c750a136c8528c62f9f1c9b6d421.jpg

I'm still struggling to decipher what the heck it's supposed to have been based on, about 4 stolen casting renditions prior; the closest so far is a sort of resemblance to a late 60s Buick Electra, at the front. Vaguely.

There was a little feigning of delight as my wife sought credit for her hand picked efforts but in reality, this brought more pleasure than I imagined it would have.

I mean, there's no way I'd have picked it up and bought it myself but to be given something as a gift transcends the significance, somehow. Yes, it's the closest of the 4 selected that aligns with my core interest - but just look at it! A rolling relic of the sad decline in the die cast industry.

Admittedly though, it rolls beautifully!

Not sure why but the stripey Cortina is my least favorite version but I do like the casting, in general. Was never a fan of the low hanging front number plate, though - too easy to get caught up in the carpet, back in the day.

I had that Matchbox 959 in the same shade but don't remember it being a colour changer!
