The three trailers are Matchbox Superkings, Corgi Major & Dinky. None have cabs sadly and the Corgi one has been badly painted. However, they’re all good so I’ve been scouting round for spare tractor units for them.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do love plant equipment!

Not sure what the green military truck is/was, looks like a rocket transporter? Big Dinky Bedford crane is all there but strings are all tangled and off their pulleys.

Yup, that's the Dinky #666 Missile Erector - would originally have come with a rocket and a launch platform, like this one:

DINKY SUPERTOYS MODEL No.666 MISSILE ERECTOR & CORPORAL MISSILE ...

I had one of those, once upon a time - reproduction rockets are now available, and I'm sure the tinplate carriage mechanism would bend back into shape with some gentle persuasion.

Again, a cracking haul - those Corgis are great!

Corgi did a load of military clobber like bloodhound missiles, presumably to attract to the folks in the sixties whose parents had probably had a bit of Military experience. I think when they do come up the fetch done good money, a bit like complete versions of the Massey Ferguson hedge cutters that presumably appealed to the rural kids. Funny how a lot of this stuff is a window into how things were at the time!

This was also the height of the Cold War, and nations were very busy flexing military muscles.  So yes, the toys were indeed reflective of their era.  I was a kid at this time and my dad was involved in farm machinery, but the corresponding toys I had tended to be the slightly bigger (1/32) Britains.  Despite my parents meeting in the RAF I didn't have much in the way of military vehicles, preferring the cars I could see around me and on the telly.  From early-on I had a preference for police cars, no doubt due to Z Cars and my dad's lovely new Zephyr (insert regular "DWM 95C where are you now?" comment here!).

Is it Tat Friday today?

To my surprise you can still buy Britains, the toy shop near us has them. I don’t know who they’re aimed at, it’s not a very rural area, maybe parents wanting to give their kids a taste of farming life with a Defender and an Ifor Williams trailer.

Ah, I was wondering what became of that one. I think it was me who flagged up that particular example for sale, so sorry about that... I figured I'd have a similar 'so now what?' reaction when it arrived if I'd bought it, but there is something very appealing about a proper 1:43 scale commercial vehicle. I think £40 is probably a pretty good price for it, from what I can glean, so don't think you'll lose out again. Just don't try and sell it to me.

Yeah, but fret not - I'd been sorta looking for a Tekno D-Series for a while (beavertail for preference, but I'm not fussy) so it didn't really take very much persuasion...

Issues with the seller being away at the point the sale completed, and then him being reluctant to ship to NI (despite 'free UK postage' offered) until I agreed to stump up another £4 for shipping, and then the parcel going missing for three weeks... meh. Yes, it was just that slightly flat, "ok, and now?" feeling once it eventually showed up... ah. It's weird how that can happen.

But yes, I reckoned it might not be too hard to move on at some stage in the future - so I'm not too bothered. And I won't try to sell it to you!

Sorry to hear the buyers remorse is clipping at your heels man.

If you do decide to move it on and it happens to be around March time then I'd be very I interested in it. Its right up my street and would go perfectly with my other large scale lorries.

Hey, if you're interested then I'd be more than happy to set it aside for a few weeks - would save me from having to deal with eBay...

I ended up buying this truck after a slap-happy period of writing such huge cheques for various electricians/ builders/ plumbers that £40 seemed like nothing, and I felt I could justify some sort of diecast treat for myself after successfully navigating quite a tricky and stressful few months... then by the time the Ford showed up, all the cheques had cleared, and we realised that we'd massively overspent on the kitchen so now had no cash left for the bathroom renovation, leaving me feeling utterly foolish... it just took the gilt off the gingerbread, somewhat.

It claims to be 1/43 scale, but then so did the Kirk Mercedes coach - and the lorry kinda dwarfs the coach, so I'm not sure which one is correct (if either)...

Different truck, confirms there was fleet and not just a one-off publicity vehicle.  Better view of the cab cap

It also seems there were two people inside trying to get out the load bed.  I wonder if Tuborg did prison transfers as a side line?  Who knew?

Mornings are now starting to show a glimmer of dawn just after 7.

1896546032_IMG_20230113_0725082.thumb.jpg.c41d1e5f4f276b1e9b57bfc1ef3caf5f.jpg

After a wild and windy night, only a few broken tree branches were evident in the rain-slick city centre.

2132496300_IMG_20230113_0801132.thumb.jpg.4227970cd7123f09c64d2fd7ea69bb9a.jpg

And there was the scent of fresh-brewed coffee, and there was tat on the stall.

1384289811_IMG_20230113_0836362.thumb.jpg.ccc700a6a0fa4b597f78fc91c8c91417.jpg

And that's kinda why we're here...

It's certainly why he's here:

1812848210_IMG_20230113_0806312.thumb.jpg.9c5f52a4883c966fca570caba5c5b143.jpg

Yes, The Nemesis was already busy nemesising away in a tub behind the stall by the time I arrived, at the stroke of 8.

Bah.

I know, that's me in ten years time, that is.

I know.

Corgi and Dinky are always a good draw, though these had mostly seen better days.

1333331436_IMG_20230113_0805502.thumb.jpg.58c30ca1a18f0c2c2cb3a4cf48d1cedd.jpg

The Corgi Jaguar fire chief was an okay-ish repaint; most of the others definitely weren't though.

1012223055_IMG_20230113_0807222.thumb.jpg.69f731220ca673a129605fe08c6ba01c.jpg

Plenty of casting damage to many - this Type 2 pickup seemed to have mild fire damage too.

The white razoredge Karmann Ghia also had damage to the roof pillars and front end, otherwise I might have had it... These were all priced at £5.

This Lesney Superkings DAF was very tidy, though.

507353568_IMG_20230113_0806532.thumb.jpg.e6d935aa5e648ac43dfb9b7891d9add6.jpg

Think it's a less common colour variant, but I can't remember what else it came with originally.

Lots o'tat, though - Days Gone and Yesteryears. Yellow tractor unit at the back is an ERTL International.

1982058930_IMG_20230113_0812122.thumb.jpg.7c6aca0e2e523e0606226bd171f1898d.jpg

And assorted buses, mostly Corgi Classics and Code 3 Dinkys but some other oddballs too.

Still The Nemesis continued his infernal tub-hoking.

And then there were boxed bus diecast off on a table to the side:

These were all priced up at a fiver each - and yes, there were some interesting far-eastern items, again.

ABC Daimler in Fife colours was hard to make out in the packaging, but seemed mint - and probably quite good value, compared to the price when new.

I was kinda twitching for the Corgi Turbos Manta, though.

Bit saggy on the axles, but a fair bit of work has clearly gone into this.

There were loads of Lesney Code 2 promotional buses too, like this one:

812250386_IMG_20230113_0836042.thumb.jpg.6cca9cc0a47997f4a3a92ad67c8faa3c.jpg

1439290246_IMG_20230113_0836092.thumb.jpg.1e8dcdfcecbbd162199b5909dece0fdc.jpg

There's been quite a collection that someone's pulled together once - now being scattered to the four winds.

Ah now. The Circle of Tat, hey?

While I waited for The Nemesis to finally finish up and bog off, I went for a wander round the other stalls, though there was precious little to interest me.

Alan's Emporium had quite a few boxless Lledo and MoY models liberally garnished throughout the rest of his junk carefully curated antiquities and curios, but at a fiver a pop I daresay he'll have them on his hands for a while.

1617316595_IMG_20230113_0841272.thumb.jpg.1d09154073f969796f83f8c12efb31a7.jpg

The New Tat Stall had a few vaguely interesting Matchbox and Hot Wheels from a couple of years back, but at a sizable mark-up, and nothing much you won't have seen before.

1987206371_IMG_20230113_0842172.thumb.jpg.1f8d9948a2796de859ab0a31ce5756c2.jpg

Meanwhile the Charity Stall had none of the large scale tinplate from the other week, and instead mostly had bundles of mismatched cutlery and dolls in a state of undress for 30p.

Nah, no thanks.

So on return to the main Tat Stall, I was gratified to see The Nemesis taking his leave, while at the same time irritated beyond belief that he'd snapped up the Corgi Turbos Manta... daaaah.

But, at least now it was my turn to wriggle behind the stall...

(TBC - once I've done more photo editing!)

Any chance you could grab me the white and red DAF flatbed and the Corgi Ford Classic (whitish colour/red roof)??

He was looking at it very hard - and then put it back.

I also looked at it very hard - at the bent roof, squashed A-pillars, cracked glazing, and torn-up plastic under the frunk which means the lid won't shut - and also put it back.

But I did quite fancy it, I think it's an incredible looking car.

Could see if it's still there in an hour's time, if you're super-keen?

Will see if they're still there - priced at a fiver each so not super-cheap, but happy to grab them for you!

That Fife Daimler "Keep going by bus" bus looks to be a bit special.

If it's still there, perchance...

I really don't understand this strange bus affliction I've gone down with.

This Lesney Superkings DAF was very tidy, though.

Think it's a less common colour variant, but I can't remember what else it came with originally.

Super Kings K34, it came with a fork lift truck. There was also a blue and grey version.

The Superkings Bus cropped up on Facebook recently. Someone has come across a box full of them in the original package, think there was something like 24 to a box, presumably having sat in a warehouse for 30 years. I think they wanted £50 for the lot, what you’d do with them all I’ve no idea.

@DatsuncogWhile we are at it, if he wants to widen the deal, I could take opportunity to grab the Dinky '49 Ford and the Hudson Commodore too.

So, eventually I managed to scuttle round to the far side of the stall, to find out just what was so great that it had kept Nemesis occupied for a full twenty minutes.

Initially, I was perplexed... I mean, this is mostly just dreck. The usual giffer-tastic MoYs, DGs and no-name Chinese 'Vintage' cars...

387258547_IMG_20230113_0812282.thumb.jpg.27635c2461cc650dd8447ed09adef3de.jpg

Though on closer inspection there were a very few items that fell outside the usual parameters:

Fiat is quite a detailed Rio model - though with a headlight missing and the roof rack trashed.

Mangled Dennis D bus lying to the side of it is a very heavy white-metal Varney product.

Unbranded R4F (likely an IXO/ Altaya magazine partwork) was quite nice, though sadly missing its front bumper (and wingmirror).

(Corgi Cameo shown for relative scale - it's bigger than a Matchbox 1-75, but much smaller than the MoY Crossley.)

What was really interesting was this box, though... I was advised that these were all £3 each.

823020478_IMG_20230113_0813372.thumb.jpg.edda588d9169f678b8654f52ffdb94bf.jpg

Lots and lots of EFSI Volvo coaches in there, in various liveries (plus one in all-white):

And a fair few Majorette Neoplan coaches, too.

But what were of particular interest were the Tomica buses - not a common sight on this side of the world.

And there were quite a few of them.

You know how some models just grab you, for no reason?

I was really drawn to this one - Tomica L4 Fuji Semi Decker Bus. There's just something about it... so yes, I snagged this one for myself, being very careful not to set it down lest someone else swooped down and nabbed it.

Because there were yet more boxes under the stall...

(TBC!!!)

Oh deary me. I would take one random nice Majorette Neoplan and one random nice EFSI Volvo (with what could be early Jonckheere bodywork?)

You know... if the option was there...

More Superkings buses, plus various Corgi Classics and MoYs.

Big Soviet bus was one of those briefly available in Poundland a good few years back - missing quite a few bits like lights and aerials, though.

315847216_IMG_20230113_0817022.thumb.jpg.f2b9b600d305a943c0f0805f81b6190e.jpg

And another odd scratch built bus - apparently an Alexander-bodied Volvo.

You've got to admire the tenacity here.

Some more of those weird Metosul Fleetline/ Atlanteans - I recall one cropped up on the stall last year, and now here's three of the buggers:

1585158795_IMG_20230113_0819182.thumb.jpg.6430dd7c9f512a831f91efdad71b6188.jpg

What's weird is that the double-wheel on the back axle protrudes mightily beyond the edge of the body.

1033672884_IMG_20230113_0818502.thumb.jpg.3a2ab1dee9f5054cdd9ba2f080c3ec82.jpg

Were these hand-finished at the factory, or has someone been detailing these at home?

984480000_IMG_20230113_0821292.thumb.jpg.a2978f686f6af0ce0413090a5e8b36c5.jpg

Paint runs, thumb marks and general shonkiness doesn't suggest a professional finish, but I could be wrong...

More boxed buses also appeared from the depths of the under-stall:

2113603750_IMG_20230113_0823252.thumb.jpg.3025c170e3770d579cfd8086e4b89f66.jpg

And a super-shonky Dinky Dodge, that appears to have been converted... into a very small bed?

1721735083_IMG_20230113_0820242.thumb.jpg.fdbba0504f2bb2b9e422690efecd6650.jpg

I have absolutely no idea what's going on here. Some sort of spray-painted fabric has been stuffed into the cabin space, after the roof's been hacked off.

1285062788_IMG_20230113_0820312.thumb.jpg.e9e6db290d428edba253af1803108461.jpg

The base has been whacked hard and bent all out of shape too.

Mini Countryman is an Atlas repro that's been robbed of its tyres, for some reason.

Man, this place is weird.

And still more lurking beneath...

691462487_IMG_20230113_0823432.thumb.jpg.534de9a788fe59189d6070854b811aa4.jpg

What's in with this lot, then?

Lesney Charger in orange with the unfortunate 'Bender' stickers was sun-faded and missing the engine, though otherwise fairly tidy.

117558168_IMG_20230113_0823342.thumb.jpg.fe8872e7c4b50e63196cd379ff8d1a9e.jpg

Saico Minor was utterly trashed, BUT still has all its lights (somehow).

1115549345_IMG_20230113_0823542.thumb.jpg.9541d2a48674a8a87dd3f18ea8c4da8e.jpg

One wheel on my wagon...

866469415_IMG_20230113_0824022.thumb.jpg.88f0c5b668cef63dac301ad6e65b04e3.jpg

MB Rolamatics Range Rover in military ambulance colours was on the stall a good few months ago - looks like it's still here.

A pair of modern Oxford OO gauge cars from opposite ends of the motoring spectrum were also languishing in there:

This pair of Norev tourers were mildly bashed, the Morgan more so than the Renault Caravelle:

While this Franklin Mint Stingray had also seen better days:

Only the two wheels, then.

SPEARS OR REAPERS YO

A very large box contained some very smol HO gauge lorries...

762230298_IMG_20230113_0827382.thumb.jpg.3e8d7a9cfba7fd8065bd8df7ed5b363b.jpg

The foam was degrading and crumbling horribly - but this seems to be some sort of Benz centenary release, from 1986.

And while there was plenty of other rubbish in there, I think this was pretty much all that was worth commenting on.

Unless you're a Spurs fan, in which case this may be of interest...

So - I'll pop back over then, and see if I can nab a few bits as specified above for Round 2...

Catch you on the flip side, kids.
