Shite in Miniature II

So, eventually I managed to scuttle round to the far side of the stall, to find out just what was so great that it had kept Nemesis occupied for a full twenty minutes.

Initially, I was perplexed... I mean, this is mostly just dreck. The usual giffer-tastic MoYs, DGs and no-name Chinese 'Vintage' cars...

387258547_IMG_20230113_0812282.thumb.jpg.27635c2461cc650dd8447ed09adef3de.jpg

Though on closer inspection there were a very few items that fell outside the usual parameters:

1099082768_IMG_20230113_0822272.thumb.jpg.d284320665fbdf6f0641cfa381ae4faa.jpg

Fiat is quite a detailed Rio model - though with a headlight missing and the roof rack trashed.

Mangled Dennis D bus lying to the side of it is a very heavy white-metal Varney product.

Unbranded R4F (likely an IXO/ Altaya magazine partwork) was quite nice, though sadly missing its front bumper (and wingmirror).

570994252_IMG_20230113_0831472.thumb.jpg.86c623e133ef620338d6caec72a8f2b3.jpg

Mid-size Lowenbrau Crossley beer lorry is, surprisingly, made by Guisval.

(Corgi Cameo shown for relative scale - it's bigger than a Matchbox 1-75, but much smaller than the MoY Crossley.)

1060814847_IMG_20230113_0830392.thumb.jpg.8a9d07178cea666274cd152152535d41.jpg

What was really interesting was this box, though... I was advised that these were all £3 each.

823020478_IMG_20230113_0813372.thumb.jpg.edda588d9169f678b8654f52ffdb94bf.jpg

Lots and lots of EFSI Volvo coaches in there, in various liveries (plus one in all-white):

316429970_IMG_20230113_0813232.thumb.jpg.281d74393ae916db6354b6c4ca9347fd.jpg

And a fair few Majorette Neoplan coaches, too.

But what were of particular interest were the Tomica buses - not a common sight on this side of the world.

1236031740_IMG_20230113_0815102.thumb.jpg.701239499b554b0b32d87efb0ac46938.jpg

Seemingly a Daimler Fleetline/ Leyland Atlantean, but here just badged as a 'London Bus'.

And there were quite a few of them.

1949465311_IMG_20230113_0814442.thumb.jpg.145be8c28189defa6427664ee6ea024e.jpg

'8th Joint Meeting at Osaka' looks like a Code 2 rather than mainline release (not that I know much about these at all).

Tomy promo coach?

More coaches.

And then this.

1757662124_IMG_20230113_0815312.thumb.jpg.23a0dcfb4169493435b0ee8ac2d9a5d0.jpg

You know how some models just grab you, for no reason?

I was really drawn to this one - Tomica L4 Fuji Semi Decker Bus. There's just something about it... so yes, I snagged this one for myself, being very careful not to set it down lest someone else swooped down and nabbed it.

Because there were yet more boxes under the stall...

(TBC!!!)

MORE rummage boxes. Crumbs.

115899101_IMG_20230113_0816242.thumb.jpg.ad759e94d70901eb70df51ddeb3b5abe.jpg

More Superkings buses, plus various Corgi Classics and MoYs.

Big Soviet bus was one of those briefly available in Poundland a good few years back - missing quite a few bits like lights and aerials, though.

315847216_IMG_20230113_0817022.thumb.jpg.f2b9b600d305a943c0f0805f81b6190e.jpg

More very scrappy Dinky repaints, too.

And another odd scratch built bus - apparently an Alexander-bodied Volvo.

146302535_IMG_20230113_0817232.thumb.jpg.459e57b6804dcad358142d698368151c.jpg

You've got to admire the tenacity here.

Some more of those weird Metosul Fleetline/ Atlanteans - I recall one cropped up on the stall last year, and now here's three of the buggers:

1585158795_IMG_20230113_0819182.thumb.jpg.6430dd7c9f512a831f91efdad71b6188.jpg

What's weird is that the double-wheel on the back axle protrudes mightily beyond the edge of the body.

1033672884_IMG_20230113_0818502.thumb.jpg.3a2ab1dee9f5054cdd9ba2f080c3ec82.jpg

Were these hand-finished at the factory, or has someone been detailing these at home?

984480000_IMG_20230113_0821292.thumb.jpg.a2978f686f6af0ce0413090a5e8b36c5.jpg

Paint runs, thumb marks and general shonkiness doesn't suggest a professional finish, but I could be wrong...

More boxed buses also appeared from the depths of the under-stall:

2113603750_IMG_20230113_0823252.thumb.jpg.3025c170e3770d579cfd8086e4b89f66.jpg

And a super-shonky Dinky Dodge, that appears to have been converted... into a very small bed?

1721735083_IMG_20230113_0820242.thumb.jpg.fdbba0504f2bb2b9e422690efecd6650.jpg

I have absolutely no idea what's going on here. Some sort of spray-painted fabric has been stuffed into the cabin space, after the roof's been hacked off.

1285062788_IMG_20230113_0820312.thumb.jpg.e9e6db290d428edba253af1803108461.jpg

The base has been whacked hard and bent all out of shape too.

Mini Countryman is an Atlas repro that's been robbed of its tyres, for some reason.

Man, this place is weird.

And still more lurking beneath...

691462487_IMG_20230113_0823432.thumb.jpg.534de9a788fe59189d6070854b811aa4.jpg

What's in with this lot, then?

Lesney Charger in orange with the unfortunate 'Bender' stickers was sun-faded and missing the engine, though otherwise fairly tidy.

117558168_IMG_20230113_0823342.thumb.jpg.fe8872e7c4b50e63196cd379ff8d1a9e.jpg

Saico Minor was utterly trashed, BUT still has all its lights (somehow).

1115549345_IMG_20230113_0823542.thumb.jpg.9541d2a48674a8a87dd3f18ea8c4da8e.jpg

One wheel on my wagon...

866469415_IMG_20230113_0824022.thumb.jpg.88f0c5b668cef63dac301ad6e65b04e3.jpg

MB Rolamatics Range Rover in military ambulance colours was on the stall a good few months ago - looks like it's still here.

1479115904_IMG_20230113_0826002.thumb.jpg.2c881ce0eb719471a3a2f7bf7be142ff.jpg

A pair of modern Oxford OO gauge cars from opposite ends of the motoring spectrum were also languishing in there:

1491949807_IMG_20230113_0826092.thumb.jpg.43306c40f25e7d42e84028883d873c35.jpg

Looks like they've been rent asunder from someone's railway layout.

194126318_IMG_20230113_0826192.thumb.jpg.67fa3541e781b5a8247312359d818f65.jpg

This pair of Norev tourers were mildly bashed, the Morgan more so than the Renault Caravelle:

630458434_IMG_20230113_0826322.thumb.jpg.5799ca3a370766da67c46df61806ea38.jpg

While this Franklin Mint Stingray had also seen better days:

1641440780_IMG_20230113_0826352.thumb.jpg.24502f702de8f67ff4fde4fe77f25f1a.jpg

Only the two wheels, then.

949439452_IMG_20230113_0826412.thumb.jpg.0361aac91a1df191f277cc7f3e4194d4.jpg

Dear oh dear.

1372283106_IMG_20230113_0826502.thumb.jpg.f6f913d265cbee06649b28266d50af2c.jpg

SPEARS OR REAPERS YO

A very large box contained some very smol HO gauge lorries...

762230298_IMG_20230113_0827382.thumb.jpg.3e8d7a9cfba7fd8065bd8df7ed5b363b.jpg

The foam was degrading and crumbling horribly - but this seems to be some sort of Benz centenary release, from 1986.

1484452613_IMG_20230113_0827282.thumb.jpg.a716b6b9f4b6ad276676bbbb07b87079.jpg

And while there was plenty of other rubbish in there, I think this was pretty much all that was worth commenting on.

Unless you're a Spurs fan, in which case this may be of interest...

157530399_IMG_20230113_0828492.thumb.jpg.1f6b8eb4806fc06630ce85ca68250a03.jpg

So - I'll pop back over then, and see if I can nab a few bits as specified above for Round 2...

Catch you on the flip side, kids.

Nothing super-interesting, I don't think - Caprice peelermobile and modern Nissan pickup look to be the best of what's left.

They seem to be Chinese-market releases that somehow made it to the UK last summer - I picked up a few from Poundstretcher at the time (yellow Civic, red 90s Nissan pickup, Dodge cop car), think they were all part of the same case.

I've got the Ranchero for you - and also picked up the Bender Charger (£2 alright for you?)

Crikey, imagine being asked to do some work on a Friday afternoon.

The very idea. Tch.

Still now that's over, where were we?

I scooted back over to the market just after 12, to a very different tatscape on the stall to earlier.

Despite no-one apparently have two brass farthings to rub together, business appeared to have been brisk in the intervening hours.

The £5 bus table was looking somewhat depleted.

404955229_IMG_20230113_1226132.thumb.jpg.9b0075d784099ba081635af1d462d1e5.jpg

Although the Hong Kong buses were still there, the ABC Fleetline in Fife livery was not.

Up top, the antique china had all been cleared, and the buses and whatnot had space to spread out.

34498991_IMG_20230113_1220212.thumb.jpg.a095acd0441d21cee226c3a9b27e97d0.jpg

The Karmann-Ghia razoredge was gone, as was the '49 Ford. Most vexing.

1672136840_IMG_20230113_1220252.thumb.jpg.9cee95ab2ce686b6034f18aedb7316b9.jpg

The white Superkings DAF had also moved on to pastures new, though a more common green version was still knocking about.

1038720201_IMG_20230113_1227102.thumb.jpg.18e0a821d98050fd63add33e0bd50d5d.jpg

The other crates had also been emptied out, giving me a chance to see what was what, finally.

There wasn't much else remaining that wasn't on the stall.

469812279_IMG_20230113_1229332.thumb.jpg.2b52d2a8061d8d58ddf977ac8f2ccf64.jpg

And there were some quite unusual items in amongst them; more than initially appeared.

This Diapet Mitsubishi Fuso, for example...

1786335162_IMG_20230113_1235182.thumb.jpg.081e4cd2d35474ce3a484a1b575c19ce.jpg

Not a common visitor to a Belfast market, I wouldn't have thought.

Equally, this Routemaster/Atlantean mashup oddity was also Japanese:

178987996_IMG_20230113_1220372.thumb.jpg.0d3a6922295c8521a9ccdb9ec7f40722.jpg

Sakura? No, me neither.

1405270502_IMG_20230113_1220452.thumb.jpg.9d95ae9355b06fc1097a6d3fbcbd0e74.jpg

And this curiosity seemed to be handmade in resin:

1042613469_IMG_20230113_1222012.thumb.jpg.8cd05c5d388d7b41690be2b9a6cbadd9.jpg

Perhaps not that robustly, sadly.

717537829_IMG_20230113_1222062.thumb.jpg.12e60a2775829d08f21c23b3c596319e.jpg

1015674047_IMG_20230113_1222122.thumb.jpg.44be9cc3e01a4fcef7ab1a159ce0ca2b.jpg

But whoever originally owned all these plainly had an eye for the esoteric.

Even this one, which I first thought was an unboxed EFE or OOC Routemaster:

311017525_IMG_20230113_1231372.thumb.jpg.fdfc61cf208d88a35eb4afa495bcb9fb.jpg

I'm sure I had a Budgie Toys Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud which had a similar proclamation on the base.

[EDIT: yes I did.]

20180610_210739.jpg

And this destination board seems to be hand-painted.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Speaking of Budgie Toys - a French Budgie?

This LWB Renault seemingly made for the French market.

New one on me.

Diecast rabbitholes opening up simply everywhere I looked...

More Rio models, though again the delicate bits broken off:

A Thorneycroft box van, which I initially took to be one of the hoary old Corgi Classics castings from the 80s that are so common (and unloved):

1289600234_IMG_20230113_1229102.thumb.jpg.0a1c3357194f8e6c75d232ea8b06f906.jpg

But, moving it revealed that it was a white metal model, very heavy and held together with glue.

No maker's name.

Another scratch build?

Crazy.

And I've no idea what this is even pretending to be:

Not an approximation of one of those weird saloon Citroen ZXs they built in China, maybe?

I tell you, this was all getting too weird for me...

The Matchbox Rolamatics Rangie turned out, on examination, to have quite badly booked axles:

Kidco Lamborghini Countach, too.

A final trawl past the Charity Stall revealed a lone Hot Wheels Pontiac Firebird on the 30p heap:
