OK I know not everyone will like these, but these boxed pull-back cars were too cheap to leave behind. The Merc SEL is branded a Welly on the base, but the others are unbranded

Andrew E pointed out this trailer in among a serious pile of them (must have been a dozen boat trailers and half as many yellow car versions) as being the one that carries the ugly white Porsche behind the yellow van. I've probably got one but...

I’d like to say I had more resolve…. but hey-ho! These 3 beauties cost £17 which is not outrageous for the glamorous looks!

I have always wanted an early small door one of these - for a £10 it didn’t really Hertz much. It’s in lovely cared for condition though it does seem to have carried plenty of plasticine inside  on its last hire!

Lastly from the pound and 50p bins these 4 - of course the chassis off the green Carabo is too short for the C11!

At pretty much the exact moment @bunglebus was purchasing that Majorette horsebox, I found myself one here:

IMG_1219.thumb.JPG.cc5bf36b4da9cb945e790da48336a1de.JPG

Complete with lady singing accompanied by mechanical accordion, it was very French.

IMG_1312.thumb.JPG.824b6dd549a80f83c07321e6c4942496.JPG

The horse has bolted. RR at least had its ladder and is the best of the three. Majorette Monte Carlo is a bit chunky. Seller also had a Mercedes which I already have and rather battered examples of Golf Mk1 and Escort Mk3/4 which I left behind. He managed to keep his cigarette going throughout the whole exchange.

Drew a blank at a couple of other sales. At one it rained and everyone packed-up or covered their stock, and the last was at a spooky derelict chateau where it was only really the owner selling off some stuff.

That is very nice indeed

Opening parts Matchbox - my favourite Matchbox car was the red with white top Challenger - was sad when they hot-rodded it. Think I had a blue with red seats once, as well. The remake loses the chrome scoops but gains an opening bonnet.

I think the carry cases I got will get filled with cars I remember, starting with said challenger, the purple Europa, Lincoln Continental, Volvo 480ES, the orange and tampo print Countach, grey BMW M1, brown Rover SD1 with sunroof, VW1600 TL, Renault 5, CX Safari and the little Mercury wagon with dogs looking out of the back.

Might consider one of those, I did build one once but in fairness for £30 you couldn’t do it yourself cheaper factoring time in. I’d go with white and a header board in red and the Matchbox 1-75 seventies thing emblazoned on it. It would have to be in the loft however as domestic circumstances dictate no diecast on show😒

Latest list of Corgi Club models - not had the ambulance yet (a great model and I have the original) but I'm hopping from foot to foot about the following month's release, the African Safari Beetle. Quite a complex release with working steering

Took the donor Matchbox Miura apart along with the broken regular wheels. Did Matchbox really just remove the engine and leave a big gap under the rear window?

Body is pretty much identical other than these stops above the rear wheels to limit suspension travel

Wish they’d copy the 70’s/80’s models

I've got most of the originals but even then they're all before my time and leave me pretty cold.

The current prices of original 70s and 80s diecast in good condition, from any manufacturer, should indicate that there's a demand for them.

Another oddity. I noticed the rear of the Dinky police Mini I bought to restore looked very plain, I was worried that the owner had sanded off all the detail of the rear lights, bootlid etc - but the paint was very thick, I couldn't open the bonnet either

Got the paint off - no detail at all but looks unmolested

A bit of googling finds some with twin rear lights and boot

Some with single piece lights

And some with a bum as smooth as a baby's...bum

Very strange. I think the smooth version should have a decal like this

OK I got to the bottom of this. Dinky launched the Mini model in 1967 as a Morris Mini Minor Automatic (!) #183, then in 1968 the police version #250 - but because this was supposed to be an Austin Cooper, smoothed the rear of the casting and replaced it with a decal for the boot, lights and (Austin) lettering. They also removed the winged Morris badge from the bonnet. Then in 1970 they modified the casting again with proper cast in lights and badges for the Cooper, and re-instated the old bonnet but with the wings removed, looks a lot like a Leyland badge actually. Problem was the shells and bonnets got mixed up a lot, so there are police versions that are badged as Morrises and vice versa.

There was also the problem of the registration number, Dinky updated the suffix to match the current registration year, but this was difficult on the early police version, as it meant altering the decal. You either get black MTB 21E, or a later reg but stuck on top of the decal - eventually they made a new decal with MTB 21J in white/yellow.

I love these strange diecast wormholes
