I'm told Kenner Fast 111s were sold in the UK but I don't recall seeing them. They do occasionally pop up for sale though:

Also landing on the mat today was a Corgi Rockets Mercedes C111, something a lot of manufacturers had a go at it seems. This one was missing its front axle but that's not really a major problem when you have a few* spares...

To me it’s the Cortina that’s the ‘wrong’ size, it’s massive compared to the Zodiac . I know today it’s probably only Qashqai size but in the 60’s the Mk4 was seen as almost too big  and admired / ridiculed by people depending on their opinion, much like Range Rovers etc today.

I’ve owned full size examples of all 3 ( Corsairs, just to rip the gearboxes and diffs out😕) and although I know the Corsair is a Cortina underneath , they felt bigger. Could be the ones I drove being 2000Es, of course.

The Corsair was bigger, didn't it have the same glass etc (or have I dreamt that) as a mk1 Cortina?  That's why somehow the glasshouse on the Corsair always looked a bit narrow & the waistline beneath the windows were a bit like a ledge out from it (if you get what I mean ?)

Looks smart, green Jag seems to be one of the more common finds. I didn't have the C111 either and got outbid on another lot containing one.

Gained a battered RO80 and Beach Buggy as part of getting that Merc

This one is a lot darker than the one I have already, plus it has a red interior. Not that you'd be at all interested in variations 😂20220722_195352.thumb.jpg.0b53d2e3e9116eaf301d708cb381e496.jpg

Just picked this lot up locally, mostly to flog on at boot sales etc and for wheel donors, there's a couple of interesting bits in there such as the 1:24 Miura concept and the older Chinese no names in good condition. Cost me a whole £1!

I'm sure I'll soon forget the pain of having to paint it four times. First it dropped off the stand into the dirt, second time I laid the paint on too thick and it looked awful. #3 looked great until a single rain drop fell out of a clear sky right onto the roof!

I don't often buy new parts but those Brightvision wheels really finish it off, it does make me feel really guilty cutting the near 50-year-old originals off though, but it's the only way unfortunately

Interesting video from Lamley about to drop - are Matchbox giving us a Moggy?

Untitled.thumb.jpg.97a14a3a116240f3477315ab4ac5b7bc.jpg

Yep. Moving parts range so might turn up in Entertainer, otherwise it'll be Modelmatic or Poundtoy

Mog1.jpg.c20b84d04067f77665b9ba8a08dd1d6f.jpgMog2.jpg.5d6c054cac020d2acfc227f8ca1fc4fd.jpgMog3.thumb.jpg.6f5a9ea80d35d42952b3088a9878f5cb.jpg

Oh my! Our local Entertainer is normally good for Moving Parts MB stuff. (If rather shite for anything else...), looks like the Moggy is going to be good. I spy a W116 S Class Merc, an RS kitted Mk1 Mondeo, and  Mk3 Golf in the background, all with opening parts too.

Had an arrival today.

IMG_20220723_123223.thumb.jpg.29b74f2f927baf96ee8ed4755154b2cd.jpg

Have to admit, this was a cock-up purchase. As the C Class-of-much-neediness has stopped kicking me in the balls for about a month, I've been all enthusiastic for ageing German saloons again. I spotted this on eBay with a £7 starting bid so lobbed a bid on. Then later it dawned on me that it's one of the Schuco or Schabak E36s that I have been after for a while, not the Solido.

Bah!

(And then I remembered that I already had an E36 that I bought last year, by Minichamps...)

IMG_20220723_122239.thumb.jpg.f91619199c83355f8f960775d4bdf499.jpg

And of course, unlike all the models that I've bid on for the last few months or so that I actually WANTED, and got outbid on, I didn't get outbid on this... So first job, after noticing that, as received, the rear suspension was a bit... stanced yo! the baseplate had to come off. Piece of piss, the axle had popped out of the retaining tab.

IMG_20220723_120317.thumb.jpg.2d43b8fa0f55acaa76b92fcf7f6dbb20.jpg

For a relatively cheap (both when new and now) model, the baseplate is a pretty good quality item, very solid. This being a relatively povo spec 3 series, the grey bumpers and side skirts are fairly cleverly incorporated into the baseplate. Very good detailing for early '90s, and the Gama/Siku style tech specs are a nice touch. A separately moulded exhaust is always nice too.

IMG_20220723_120144.thumb.jpg.3a1491bebfe81b85c5cee1bbde74dd57.jpg

While it was in pieces, I took the opportunity to check out the interior. The seats are very well represented and it's nice to see realistic doorcards. Often with European models from this era, the doorcards either aren't there at all, or are moulded into the shell and painted body colour. Note the window winders, very base. (Decadent rear headrests though...)

IMG_20220723_120237.thumb.jpg.a632e94cb1d3c908fd6ca3174fe10d0d.jpg

Dash shows it's age, though all the details are there. Nice wheel though.

IMG_20220723_121334.thumb.jpg.0a507ce6f85cfafdca21c3bd40eb220e.jpg

Body shape is well captured. Nice colour combo too.

IMG_20220723_121319.thumb.jpg.584cfca3d409f8d0aeb7f8d3e9123168.jpg

Little things like the tail lights, flat paint and lack of badging detail probably give away the fact that Solidos of this era were at the bargain basement of the market and probably why they aren't massively sought after or valuable nowadays. But it looks good with its combo of base spec bumpers, alloy wheels and twin tailpipes. A weird mix of base and option list ticking. A lot like actual BMWs and Mercs of the time!

IMG_20220723_121620.thumb.jpg.444e6caa77058220e156414127c01571.jpg

However, being a '90s model from one of the European manufacturers, it does have a couple of surprises, the opening boot for one. And it's always nice to see on a model of this age that the rear screen heating elements are replicated. Something Corgi STILL don't seem to be able to do on the Vanguards range

IMG_20220723_121555.thumb.jpg.3b8c94607019f870f2dc6c346f64fd4f.jpg

And an opening bonnet with a pretty impressive amount of underbonnet detail. Not really a Germanic bonnet gap though... (and the indicators seem to have gone AWOL at some point)

IMG_20220723_121234.thumb.jpg.f453302276ab91c075b216b07d39485f.jpg

So it's not exactly  Minichamps or Vanguards level of precision but it's got that nice early '90s charm from when I was just discovering stuff by Gama, Solido, Norev and the like that kicked the arse of anything by Corgi. Its kind of won me over!

Got caught up in things yesterday, and forgot to post pics of this latest arrival...

Yup, the July '22 release from Corgi Model Club - the #231 Triumph Herald Coupe, in two-tone blue and white.

1357490314_IMG_20220722_1259162.thumb.jpg.812bb613a7b9687c1032b81ec40d2139.jpg

Crisply rendered front detail looks really nice, with the silver masking picking out grille, lights and bumpers. Two-tone masking is done well too.

1864975302_IMG_20220722_1259542.thumb.jpg.0b939f392fd4e0f2b680e972088474d0.jpg

And - an opening bonnet, with decent engine detailing beneath. Little spring-loaded metal clips hold the bonnet closed - not something I've seen before.

643943092_IMG_20220722_1259462.thumb.jpg.798406a26a39820389677c9fa4222270.jpg

The separate plastic air filter box was seen as exciting enough to justify a specific mention on the box.

1498176815_IMG_20220722_1301032.thumb.jpg.815093cd30b91ef8af3159b312a016fa.jpg

The underside, like all of this era, is functional rather than exciting. But does include the cut-out slot for towing a caravan... Maybe a clue for a planned future release?

1062743290_IMG_20220722_1301392.thumb.jpg.daf04745c9b48a1adf6316e5e1e802c9.jpg

The Herald was also available in a gold and white paint scheme, and it's this version that appears on the box.

406032717_IMG_20220722_1300332.thumb.jpg.b67602fad00a03b76ebeaeb0915f3819.jpg

To show it off at its best, the box artwork depicts both ends - and the flip-up bonnet too.

1306054589_IMG_20220722_1300502.thumb.jpg.fc3fd9f9dc9e6f4a0c359cd5ed6440ad.jpg

And the customary 'Collector Card' - a few facts and figures, for the lucky recipient to bore his mates down the pub with.

1399745853_IMG_20220722_1301182.thumb.jpg.2ebd54dc317addf1b425749691b52620.jpg

It's another strong release from the Corgi Crew - nice work!

I'm a big fan of late 80s and early 90s Gama/Schabak/Schuco models so I really like this. The overall shape and stance looks very accurate, something a few manufacturers struggled with on the E36.

I have managed to get the E36 saloon in 1/24 guise from Gama, an M3 by Schuco (which is 100% a Gama model) and a much later Schabak cabriolet with steering and extra detail.
