That's quite the transformation!  Do you have a YT channel? I'd be intrigued to see a video on a resto from the start to finish and reckon many others on here would be too!

No - I have thought about it but I don't think I could do it very well. Most of my work is done in my outhouse but spraying is done outside, sometimes I'll stand out there sanding things, or take the Dremel out on an extension lead when I'm wire brushing stuff.

In short, unless I strap a camera to my head I'm not going to film much!

I might have a go in the future, in the mean time at least you have Sideways King 75, Diecast Resurrection, Danny's Diecast Disasters, Marty's Matchbox Makeovers...

Some time back I bought a tatty Corgi VW panel van

Well I then found a better one so decided to restore the first. Casting has lovely details but was very coarse under the paint

2022-04-20_04-46-21.thumb.jpg.35f52a405af23c57be2002b1c625f912.jpg

I really wasn't sold on the colour combo as I just couldn't see VW painting one like that in the 60s, found a few unusual colour schemes (errors) online

2022-04-20_04-43-38.thumb.jpg.b75f9096d55f07b2b64d20feb247666a.jpg2022-04-20_04-43-45.thumb.jpg.823f489981c716d00c37bb0d88ca9961.jpg

Then I found a bit of a rarity, the "Vroom and Dreesmann" version

Corgi-Toys-433-Volkswagen-Delivery-Van-DD75-front.jpg.9a51156ece608ff6b1d07eaa34dfda74.jpg

The decals were available, so...

Very pleased with this one. I couldn't resist tidying up the casting lines in the bumpers, and I omitted to paint the number plate housing silver as original, because it didn't look right to me.

Colour looks a bit light in the pictures but indoors it's about right

Great work. Did you know that V&D was a Dutch department store. Similar to Debenhams. They went the same way. Dividing the large shops up into smaller retail spaces which were brand dedicated areas. Like Dixon's photos (yes the Dutch also had Dixon's. The shop has gone, that is  investment management asset stripping  for you.

No I hadn't looked into it at all, just preferred the more era correct colour and decals. Off down an internet rabbit hole!

Next small scale plastic project:

1:25 AMT/Ertl 1970 Dodge Challenger kit

"Year of birth" build challenge on a model car forum. That's the Challenger in my case! It'll get the Viper's V10 squeezed-in (which has been done at 1:1) and use the 18" wheels.

1:25 AMT/Ertl 1970 Dodge Challenger kit

Mocked-up on a similar-size set of wheels I had knocking around. Slightly warped bonnet aside, it looks like it should fit together well and there's enough room for it to sit low on those wheels without surgery on the arches.

It'll be painted that Holts metallic bronze colour (looks awfully like Ford Roman Bronze) with a tan vinyl roof.

This is the last Gus's Gulper I'm doing, I promise! Having done the white one and colour trial replica, I really wanted to fully detail one. This has fought me all the way, started it so long ago I can't remember which of the tatty pink bodies I actually used - but the base is one I restored to put under the colour trial before realising that one had to be bare metal. I still ended up taking it apart as yellow plastic wasn't going to work with the colour scheme.

Casting flaws were pretty bad, actually bought a tool specifically for this one - a sanding disc attachment for the Dremel that's saving me lots of time.

Then the paint fell off after masking up the (silver) stripes. Then I dropped it after stripping and re-priming with a different brand.

I actually took pics of this before lacquering too, as I had a suspicion I would get a reaction with one of the different paints used on the detailed areas.

Anyway, it's done now, various different silvers used inside and some black wash etc to make the engine look realistic. Stripes are white primer

Oof, that looks decent! Very nice colour, and the stripes look bang-on.

Wonder if Matchbox might have shifted more of these Gus's Gulpers if they'd been a more appealing shade than day-glo pink or appliance white?

I've got a few race sponsorship decals, was thinking of putting them on that ^ but don't know how well they'll work over blue

Now that I have a Jag, I need a model of it.  Fortunately there are two in the Bond partwork collection, one badged as a Daimler.  Those of us who like to browse, would you keep your eyes peeled for a cheapie I can paint green please?  They both come in black, which is unfortunate.  Daimler or Jaguar, I don't mind.

I’ve just noticed I’ve got an x350 in my cabinet, forgotten it was there and indeed where it came from, just rushing out the door . Will take pics on my return, look on this as a teaser post. I’m sure you’ve got something to trade, after all that’s how you got the full size one 😊

Why were these damaged. When I had model railway I had scrapyard in the sidings area.

All that is left of the model railway is this box.

I had a good look at the base and it's KS Toys. Annoyed with myself for not checking the bottom of the box for the roofrack, slim chance I know but...

It's apparently a Majorette copy, so there's Mercedes 450 and St Tropez caravan to find too

I'm not sure if this belongs here or not but hang it, it's my thread 🤣

A while ago I gave away my early 1980s Action Man collection to an ex-soldier after I stuck it up on Marketplace. My parents were clearing their loft and I don't really have an interest in it.

Anyway, fast forward to the weekend and my Auntie had found my 2 elder Cousin's even earlier collection so it was duly ferried down to me .

Now, I said I had no interest in Action Man however when I was a kid I absolutely loved the Jeep and trailer. I played with it until it was falling apart and was eventually crushed by my dad's MK2 Cavalier. Turns out that olive green is indeed a great camouflage.

There was a Jeep in the collection as you can see but I'd had my time with it.

20220418_124441.thumb.jpg.05c4690cd41cd4e613173b5b1f767f47.jpg20220418_115907.thumb.jpg.4e7afe543b77d73ebb906ea1cb89a575.jpg

However I was speaking to my younger Cousin the day before I got the collection and  she said she'd had been up at my Aunties tidying up and had come across the Action Man Foden truck. Sadly it was too far gone and she binned it. Now I absolutely LOVED this thing and took any opportunity I could get as a young kid to play with it when I went up to visit so I was very disappointed.

I thought I'd try and categorise the collection somewhat before the same chap, who was very excited when I messaged him again and offered him the collection (for free, as it was to me). As I rummaged through I found what I was certain was  the roof hatch of the lorry, still intact. Then a door, then another door, then all 4 bits of the dropside body, the vinyl tilt and all the intact pieces of the frame. I bagged them up and thought I'd keep them just on the slim chance that a truck came up for sale as spares and repairs.

I casually checked ebay and I could not believe it, there was a bare truck with just the cab, chassis, wheels and flatbed. No more and no less than I needed. A cheeky offer was submitted and it was mine for £25 posted.

It arrived today and I could not wait to build it up. I'm delighted with it and there was even a space waiting for it on my shelves.

That takes me back. I have ( had?) the Jeep and trailer snd a helicopter I am sure. Where they are now is probably the depths of my parents loft.

I've never paid over £5 for one posted - usually about £3.00 all in - some of the 60's stuff will go for more like the Dinky books. Matchbox from late 60s are easy enough to find

Just noticed the single wiper, must be in homage to the XJ40. That or ive broken it off dusting it!

Isn't vintage Action Man stuff mega valuable? I had a fair bit when I was a kid (must have been 10-15 years older than I was, picked up from boot sales) includint a motorcycle/sidecar combination. I can't remember what happened to any of it but I think I possibly sold it on when I was a teenager and even then was surprised by what it fetched. Trying to get my head round the scale of that truck - it must be absolutely massive!

Posted

Prices are all over the place.  I saw a collection for sale for £975 however everything was in good nick. I saw a complete and reasonable Foden truck on ebay starting at only £30 bidding so who knows.

Most of what I gave away required repair or had parts missing. The guy has already fixed some stuff up and has it displayed next to his medals. If he sells it on, well hey ho, it was in my family's way. I got it for nothing anyway.

I reckon the truck could be worth a decent bit now though as its totally complete with just a small tear in the vinyl tilt where it parts to let the troops in and out. Its 1/6 scale apparently, I'm totally having a play with it in the garden tomorrow after work!

I'd love an old A Team van. The bog one with with removable roof, sliding door and rotating chair that came out and had a machine gun on it (I might be imagining that last part)

As you've brought it up, I noticed something the other day. Some Snow Tracs have cast in lettering

Matchbox 35b Snow Trac

and some, like yours, rely on a decal

Matchbox 35b Snow Trac

I quite often spot little differences and changes when I'm going through my cars, they don't always make sense either.

Like this - the base has been altered, especially at the rear

When did MB start making them in Macau? I have have Superkings Datsun 240Z dated 1974 which is made there but all my other Superkings up to around the early 1980s are made in England.

Sometimes you can see where the country of manufacture has changed as the mould has had it sculpted out and the new place stamped in. I'm fairly sure I have 2 similar models made in Macau and Thailand. I think the Rancho is made in 'Macao' just to add confusion.

All these old retro toys are worth big money. Remember Crash Dummies?

Still got my crash dummies car up in the loft somewhere. I played with it (crashed it) that much that parts actually started to break and I remember celotaping the roofs A pillars back together. Ahhh good times. Must hunt that down.

Right lads and ladettes, I hae a question. But first, some context. As a bairn, I had this wee red hot wheels american saloon motor that my cousin David gave me, it could've been a polis motor. I reckon it must've been manufactured late-70s/early-80s perhaps. It had a side panel that could flip round as if it was crashed into when you threw a car into it. Anyone know what the fuck I'm dribbling on about or have one of these things? I've never seen another one since and I'm not sure what happened to it, but I'd love to buy another one lol.
