Gave that tin plate GT a good polish and painted the headlights and window surrounds. Greased up the friction motor so that's working nicely now

Oh and straightened the body and base out

Even although I've lost my interest in diecast I still can't resist a model or variant of a car I currently own.

I already have 3 Vanguards Rover 75s and 2 ZTs together with a 1/18 Roewe 750 but I've always wanted the Schuco MK1. These were launched to coincide with the release of the 75 in 1999. Some had Rover branded boxes, the card outer sleeve is missing on this one.

The Vanguards MK2 is an excellent model but this surpasses it in terms of detail and paint finish. You can see* the wood effect I the dashboard in my excellent* picture. Sadly no smiley plate and it's left hand drive too so the Vanguards scores points on this front.

Very pleased with this one, I'm still in the lookout for a Wedgewood blue example to match my first 75 I had back in 2018.

They're all new, each Matchbox case is completely different to the last with no carry overs. There's some nice stuff in there too.

Unlike in Smyths where this previously unopened case netted nothing interesting

Think I spied a Golf Mk1, I have the orange one and the German Police Car. I think the short runs you get these days could mean in time they become more collectible, years ago a model could run for 2-3 years.

A GTI campaign, had the Pirelli p slots. Wasn’t a fan, I thought an early Mk2 looked better. 🤣

I like both - but you can't say this isn't a great looking Matchbox

While I was out I popped into Oxfam. 2nd release Model A is very tidy

I have the Corgi VW Hot Rod of course but I can see it in a custom colour and detailed

Corgi Sierra isn't very exciting, does have strange paint degradation that I've seen before on this model - inside has gone beige and has bled through under the white. No idea why this happens

All the chat about Glo Racers led me to finding a different version of the Sizzlin ZX, unfortunately it's been left in the sun and has darkened as well as warped. I think the solution that cleans up plastic windows may help this one

Could do with some tips lads. How does one take apart a miniature shite motor that has rivets on the base? It's one of the old Corgi ones with the metal baseplate, like the image below.

I'd like to respray it but I need to get the rivets out so I can get the shell on it's own.

I think you need to drill them out, then new rivets when you have finished the recon.

As above, drill it out - most rivets have a depression that centres the drill nicely but a few are quite smooth, a carefully aligned tap with a centre punch helps here.

I tend to start carefully with a 1.5mm, which again helps centre things and helps later on - then around a 4mm depending how bit the rivets are, you only want to remove the rivet head, not make a huge hole right through the base.

I then clean up the rivet post after pulling everything apart and drill far enough with the 1.5mm to tap it with a 2mm, allowing me to use tiny 2mm hex head screws to put things back together. Alternatively you could glue it if that's easier.

Lots of vids on Youtube, take your time and you'll be fine

You Pug has those devilish smooth rivets, they do have a tiny depression in the centre so either centre punch or start very carefully with a small drill

I was wondering if that would come in different versions like the MR2 lights up/down LHD/RHD thing and various others, but they all looked the same to me

At one time of day I’d have chased all the minor variables down but I’m all on keeping up. Next time I’ll pick up the Ford tractor unit, wondering if it’s compatible with the older Convoy trailers as the Ford Cargo was.
