To be honest I don't remember them, and I was 8 at the time. I must have been too interested in my Corgi Rockets to notice them.

I didn’t exist in 1972 so can’t really say😄

It just seems like a really naff idea for a toy though. A stick and piece of string to drag a toy car along with! Corgi Rockets must have blown Matchbox away on that one.

Yeah, a piece of string does not compete with a Grand Canyon set with Super Booster.

I did t realise the yellow Marzal was a Broomstick one

Matchbox Superfast 20a Lamborghini Marzal

That purple Pontiac is pretty cool, I'd like to find a good original one to go with my resto

Well I dragged a bit of low hanging fruit out of the box as it looked like it would look a lot better with a quick wash and brush up.

Misty windows are condensation from the cleaning.

DSCF5513.thumb.JPG.aa29eb823d77644c9998e4ad5f0bd30b.JPG

It's been enjoyed.

DSCF5516.thumb.JPG.3c9eff42861470d4197e88c836087360.JPG

Not much og the hook left but at least there's still a, all be it split, tyre on the winch bit.

DSCF5517.thumb.JPG.aca363ab5dfa6fca25d2ec9038fb07b1.JPG

But the pivot/rivet that hold the winch must have broken as the spring inside is forcing the two halves apart.

DSCF5518.thumb.JPG.f85ebfcc78e2e47b3164b3353bf69590.JPG

The tool cover was quite loose, but after a bit of levering I have got it to stay on better.

DSCF5519.thumb.JPG.9c9aae06b32cfceb32fce6281235ef62.JPG

Base is quite good and it does not look like it has been off roading carpetting. Two of the tyres need replacing for the MoT though.

MOT exempt in it.

I think it taped on. It was a spectacularly shit idea I think and was in essence a bit of plastic, some string and the premise being the drag it along with the path.

There's nothing obvious on the base apart from the small oblong recess by the front rivet, but this maybe just the normal feature for tow truck work. I do not have another Marzal to compare.

I've done with cleaning black marker.

DSCF5525.thumb.JPG.acff830bc112082d4da850ef1d7db83f.JPG

Due to the rough finish on the Mercury I have decided to leave it's historic finish.

DSCF5526.thumb.JPG.b5af7c13c25957e95e423ea650ba3b30.JPG

It's an early thin wheel Superfast that has 55 or 73 on the base.

DSCF5527.thumb.JPG.758b08ea8c8b1ef8a749f0f9316d9f02.JPG

As predicted the Marzal did not have much of teh original yellow left, and what is left has turned an odd shade of mucky lime green.

DSCF5528.thumb.JPG.fed00389afd6bfc1249a49fa0d767a99.JPG

The Jag has revealed it's chrome finish, but it has suffered losses.

DSCF5529.thumb.JPG.7cc075cdb07652355852af06470fef8c.JPG

I might go up to Hobby Time and see if I can get some glass paint to attempt restoring the original look.

I've improved the Pontiac a bit.

DSCF5533.thumb.JPG.47349fb953e9b67c752f1138e021d1ec.JPG

To the naked my dodgy old eyes this looks okay in natural light, but yet again the flash photography shows up the bits I've missed.

DSCF5534.thumb.JPG.c86fd47ff887418aed6a760771d9eef2.JPG

I never had a purple one when younger, but I did have a Regular Wheel red one.

DSCF5535.thumb.JPG.d2d760bf850625b78be20fbf80648f9f.JPG

This will be going on my desk as, like the 250 GT Lusso, it has always been a car I'd like a real one of.

...Is that a Joal next to it too? Can see plenty of VW goodies in the mix, GP Buggy with surfboards is a good score but all old VW stuff sells easily - as will that red wheel centre Batmobile

Yes it is a Joal.

It's a Chaparral 2-F in an excellent box with a lid with no stress cracks and some very minor scratching.

There's a couple of paints chips here and there...

DSCF5554.thumb.JPG.2848bd79499e9a93bcefe11c35c254e4.JPG

and the rear spoiler will not balance in the right place.

DSCF5556.thumb.JPG.69097b1307cd4553ea24508a44d80a14.JPG

But what lets it down is one of the doors has gone missing.

DSCF5557.thumb.JPG.a07860f1bd57e1b6d373a8e41c267e02.JPG

The base is good with just some paint loss on the raised edges.

DSCF5558.thumb.JPG.46f6d217d3d6a0fa13aaa3f7cd715578.JPG

I've also cleaned up the Batmobile.

DSCF5541.thumb.JPG.e57249a69021146bf470bc0b0b2a7092.JPG

This has been enjoyed and obviously done plenty of crime fighting.

DSCF5542.thumb.JPG.d662335896acd77a08e48ff08a448039.JPG

I tested the rocket launchers with some bits of cocktail stick and all three still fire.

DSCF5543.thumb.JPG.38c8fe7d6a240a09792d6df6bc09f88a.JPG

This one been out doors by the looks of it and the tyres look like they will fall into many many pieces if any attempt is made to remove them.

A few from today, and a breakdown of yesterday's charity shop pound bags; today first.

Gave a pound for the 305, two quid each on the Jag and Unimog - the Mog is amazing, only missing a jewel headlight.20241114_120342.thumb.jpg.90ae850d1aaa91ce2f0d2fd77400fcee.jpg

The pound shop bags netted this lot; fair bit of dross but a few decent bits.

Mine is missing a door and the spoiler stays in place just long enough for a picture if I'm lucky

Well, the Altaya Metro 6R4 arrived today.

Initial impressions are… @quicksilver was probably (certainly!) right. It will be a pig to convert backwards to a standard Metro!😆

But given it’s broken and a bit worn anyway it’s probably worth a go I reckon.

IMG_6397.thumb.jpeg.7ca7af791084c2461a6f7272a0ca2d24.jpeg

I discovered something too. Unusually for one of these 1:43’s it has a party trick nobody told me about!
I had no idea they had lights! There’s a little switch under the front for them!

IMG_6391.thumb.jpeg.37d1fd0b0e6aa2e62bed04057c87ce06.jpeg

Curiosity got the better of me so I had a quick peek inside.
Not the tidiest job of it but cool it’s there non the less, and they work too.

IMG_6392.thumb.jpeg.b044022786ade73939e5a71c9a7bc972.jpeg

So, I still think hacking it about to become a standard Metro is doable. Not easy by any stretch but I reckon I can do it!
It’s going to take a while and there’s a lot of material and parts to remove but it’ll be quite the challenge.

I could of course just leave it alone, but tbh, I’m just not really interested in race cars like this. Nice enough, but it’s meaningless to me. Whereas a normal Metro is very relatable and will mean something to most people.

They were going through one of those periods desperate for something that would be the next big thing, history tells us however this was not it. If you look back they had a huge range of toys, diecast probably only accounted for 30% of it.

Went charity shop this morning

Saw a box, a recent donation on cabinet behind counter

Was told were throwing it out because  'can't sell 'em, as old and broken'

I looked inside

20241114_165638025_iOS.thumb.jpg.71bf46251e3646cf749392ec10e125c9.jpg

No wonder the big commercial bins out back are overflowing

So I offered a fiver donation to the charity (because, charity) and then walked out with it to sift through
