Shite in Miniature II

I've just Googled Smyths, as it wasn't a shop I was aware of.

Did anyone know you can buy from them online? Free delivery over £20, or click and collect, with stocks of items shown available for each store.

I checked with a 10 pack of Hot Wheels (currently £10) and they can't be ordered as a specific set but all the car culture ones mentioned recently can be ordered by model.

I'm aware this could dampen the thrill of the chase somewhat - and be borderline dangerous to others! But it could be useful for stuff people really wanted, saving fuel to boot.

That said, if anything's proving super elusive, I can keep an eye out over here for stuff. Might save a few quid too, if willing to wait:

Pic taken yesterday. Quick snap, hence the blur but often, premium stuff is about a fiver here.

Am a bit late to the party but, notice it was Zee but distributed in US by Intex as Grippers Race Team

Later, Maisto released their own variation (with reselection of vehicles) as Race Team.  Same trailer.  Same Jeep CJ7 in same livery.  Same Chevrolet C/K Stepside Pickup in a recolour.

A fair bit smaller than the Matchbox one

I thought I'd repaint it, but actually it's a great livery as it is...

Edit; so I'm still looking/hoping for a Matchbox charger to paint up!

Anyone got a Kenner 'Zip Strip' range Dodge Charger?  Think they were 1:55

The Matchbox original would look good in red

After all they did tease us on the box

Favourite back here is the 1:32 slot car by Pioneer.  They did a few variations on the theme

At Brighton Marina boot sale last Sunday one of the stalls had about 5 huge models (1/18 maybe?) including a Charger. I didn't take a pic or get a good look as Mrs Concern spotted something interesting and we vered off. When we came back for another look the stall was gone! Other cars were Yankee 60s stuff, I remember a Camaro as well.

I with I'd got a good look and a pic...

I had that Hot Wheels, it's got Real Riders - sold in a big purge years ago, one of several I should have held on to. I recognise the green one but can't remember who made it, Yatming maybe?

Edit

Yes

I had a slightly bigger trailer like that which came in a set with a Tractor unit & a civil engineering vehicle.  I'm not sure if it was made by Maisto, but the plastic parts were brittle.

What a bunch of nongs.

Still, that orange Charger looks pretty good. Dunno why, but the silver 2023 release just doesn't do it for me.

Might have a look for that one myself, even if paying £2.50 does sting a bit...

Finally got an opportunity to compare the cheapo Atlas 'Best of British Police Cars' Triumph 2000 peelermobile from last week's market, with my own long-term resident 2500 PI:

IMG_20231108_1440132.thumb.jpg.104de3c0c5e5030c3ac209f62851b104.jpg

It's the same basic casting, as Atlas borrowed a number of Vanguards toolings - amongst others - to put together this collection.

IMG_20231108_1440042.thumb.jpg.8e7edb4236753ffe0c8ee090be9251cb.jpg

The Atlas is wearing colours from Lancashire Constabulary c.1973, while the Vanguards represents a West Mercia car from around 1969.

The main difference seems to be the light bar, which is bigger and blockier on the Lancs car and smaller and triangular - for motorway cruising, maybe? - on the geographically adjacent West Mercia car.

IMG_20231108_1440442.thumb.jpg.b4fd7da768110261c217e9680cae1edf.jpg

There's not a whole heap of difference in terms of detail - both models have good tampo printing, including teeny-tiny badges on the rump, and silver detailing around the boot lip.

IMG_20231108_1440582.thumb.jpg.b628c78173c7fe11f3211c49301b62da.jpg

The grille on the Atlas is a flat black, while the Vanguards branded one has sort of a washed-chrome effect, which I think looks a bit better.

One of the wipers on mine has been crocked, probably due to injudicious dusting at some point over the years, but the Atlas comes with wingmirrors attached - while the Vanguards version has holes drilled and the mirrors supplied separately on a sprue, but the packaging stupidly makes no allowance for these so I've never put them on.

IMG_20231108_1440362.thumb.jpg.b83127903506c58d2163afe73cdabdc3.jpg

I think I kinda prefer the basic steel rims with chrome hubcaps of the boggo 2000 to the sports-style wheels of the PI... but at the same time, I'm sorta attached to the 2500 so - I think it's the Lancs car that's gonna be making its way to pastures new!

It does. Unusual to model the 66 over the preferred 68-69 too. I have a spare...

And I've had the Minichamps in red. Oddly Minichamps decided to model the car with the headlamps exposed.

You can’t fake patina like that!

Dinky Austin Devon. When I got it it was covered(ish) in maroon/red paint, no tyres and stinking of oil. After a wash it smells better now and most of the red/maroon washed off. A set of new tyres completes the rat look yo!
I do like that little model, considering it’s age it looks great and seems to have survived well.

Found myself the Jaffamobile versions of the Tyre Fryer and Soopa Coopa. Cleaned 40 years of grime out of the interiors with cotton buds as I couldn't get the decals wet

Supposedly the Jaffa ones are rare but I’ve seen loads of them? They weren’t boxed I don’t think from new. Years ago, maybe mid 90’s Model Collector priced them at £50-60 which seems way high to say you can find the easily.
