So in today's episode of a casting you don't like but bought it anyway because it was in good condition is this.....

There's a new series of Ultra Hots not headed our way, if anyone happens to find them I'd rather like this one at least

Even Lesney didn't make much of it, don't think there are any real variations to speak of other than Super GTs

Heh, I picked one of those No. 64 Fire Chiefs up a while ago from the market because it was super-clean, and even the base looked factory-fresh - but no, it's not a casting I have a great deal of affection for either.

I can recall playing with a kid down the road called Wayne when I was maybe five or six; we were in his front garden messing about with various toys and I found one of these lying in a flowerbed.

As a fairly serious child, I took a great deal of pride in knowing 'all' the cars on the road, so this one absolutely infuriated me because not only did I not recognise it, but it just looked wrong - why did it have cooling vents on the bonnet and on the back of the bootlid? Was it front engined or rear engined? If it was rear engined, why was the bonnet so long? It made no sense. And there was nothing on the base to help me out either.

The Stretcha Fetcha and Soopa Coopa gave me similar conniptions; I also seem to recall arguing passionately that the Stretcha Fetcha must be a real vehicle, since the model carried a valid-looking UK style number plate.

Ah, the things you remember.

Plus, looking back I can see that I was a weird kid.

I was the same and largely ignored the fictitious Superfast and Superkings castings, in spite of their realistic number plates.

For example, how good would the Battle Kings Shell breakdown Truck have looked with a Bedford TM front end instead ofnthat hideous concoction with headlights that looked like domestic interior light switches.

I like a minter, I’ll always pick them up even if it’s a casting I can’t stand like that. It annoyed me as a kid on several points, the fire service wouldn’t use such a vehicle and it was one of those castings that you always found in the bottom of boxes that no fucker ever wants.

Nice, I love my Ultra Hots.

I'm keen for the BMW, GTO and TR6 if anyone spots any.

Being a bit older than you I had to Google "Battle Kings Shell breakdown Truck" and I see what you mean!

I never liked stuff I didn't see on the road even to the point of not being keen on American cars I never saw.

Just couldn't resist looking for that Fire Chief, as my big box o'cars is finally relatively accessible again.

It's in here somewhere...

IMG_20231018_1327552.thumb.jpg.176b5bde9f7c1b3cf8adac24f6387ef6.jpg

Found it.

IMG_20231018_1328152.thumb.jpg.8afad8a8848cbd146bc2752d9423b577.jpg

Not quite as shiny as I recall, but pretty good for 50p. Bonus Soopa Coopa just to further annoy myself.

Obviously, I now need a Stretcha Fetcha for maximum irritation.

Also gave me a chance to reunite a recently acquired No.24 Team Matchbox with my fairly bashed childhood original:

IMG_20231018_1328542.thumb.jpg.7397999896087d3fb63894bb9a17b4ed.jpg

(Actually, it was my older cousin's first - hence his initials on the rear wing)

While I had them out, I felt that some of the recent acquisitions - plus some not-so-recents - could do with a bit of a scrub.

IMG_20231018_1349432.thumb.jpg.a02b6078b936b33d7848971203df9e11.jpg

Fear not, nothing with electrics was submerged - damp toothbrush treatment only.

Now, back to a fun afternoon's training on Updates to the Accounting Procedures Manual while those dry themselves off...

Was out early for some shopping today and had a good poke-about in Tesco's toy aisle, but despite quite a full tub I had no luck finding a Volvo 240 - in fact, they didn't have any of the others you picked up either, so maybe we're still a case behind over here?

Noticed too that Sainsburys have their Hot Wheels reduced quite substantially; not much selection in my local store, but just a heads-up in case anyone else could benefit...

I also just found a new box of MB in Tescos. Seemingly a slightly different box.

I snapped these up. Moggy thou is begging for paint. IMG_20231018_185744.thumb.jpg.f8fde15a0775ff6b5acec56a85a42f83.jpg

These where also in the box along with the Field car and the Ford lorry. The bottom one was on a Indiana Jones branded card.

Didn't know about those.  It seems they named that one Travel Trailer (because Americans) 2007-14 and in that livery was part of the 2011 range Camping Adventure 5-pack

Screenshot2023-10-18155615.thumb.png.7ae8d1f8fa20fad616a442693d8a0de2.png

What struck was the door was on the offside, for 'driving on the right' roads (because Americans).   I wonder if it's based on a real twin axle design

Tt1(1).webp.4f1771013693eed31f9b4d6bea4c2f5d.webp

So a comparison with proper DRIVING ON THE LEFT Matchbox Caravan history was thought overdue, so starting with...

The Berkeley Cavalier, 1956-60 and had a door on each side, each sealed shut

s-l1600(1).thumb.png.06b64695fa89a619935b71ba0932f390.pngs-l1600.thumb.png.f02a5e6a888914aa7faac7b66ec6a77f.png

The 1960-64 Bluebird Dauphine had one door, which was an OPENING THING !

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.8d88a9918bf7fa4a95c148322619d25a.jpg

1965-69 Trailer Caravan had not an opening door, but a LIFT-OFF ROOF with VERANDAH!  Not sure if based on a real thing.

s-l1600(3).thumb.jpg.d055946f8ba261f7025bb97f10336a2f.jpg

1971-82 Trailer Caravan was a model of an Eccles, same theme of no opening door and a lift-off roof with a detailed interior within

2535.jpg.d0ac0c3e8143349a029ce907d4139a55.jpg

1978-99 Caravan is the only one I remember from youth.  Opening door was plastic this time

90286690_47192779_43838323.thumb.jpg.cf072a9b10cdca396067b8af7ce0036c.jpg

2000-12 Pop Up Camper, not an opening thing but a POPPING-UP THING

MatchBoxPopUpCamper.jpg.d4b5f43080fe86a1dabca07b06718b55.jpgs-l1600(1).thumb.jpg.736d40beb2dbac6b1f26a04bd07063bb.jpg

Then it goes awry for 2007-14 Travel Trailer by switching to LHD market focus and also only in twin and five-packs, never singles.  Does have opening door though

HitchNHaul-Vacation-Day.webp.88d4ff1d6e988a99e354b31ffc334466.webp

2021-current Travel Trailer II  also in Hitch & Haul twin-packs.  Similar to Travel Trailer  but shortened and with one axle.  Does it have an opening door still though?
