Sometimes there's a hole to push them out from the back - you might find they fall out in paint stripper anyway as it dissolves the glue. You can buy rhinestones cheap as chips off eBay anyway

I recently came by some ancient cans of DOT4, that old they were suitable for Moskvitches. Supposedly that’s the stuff to use.

The problem with this on some Corgi (not sure about other makes) the "diamond" is set in a plastic housing which also disolves. Steve Flowers does repros of them, but they need a fair bit of cleaning up

Checked on the Transit this morning and the brake fluid is working! The paint has softened and it’s blistering off around the edges. You can scrape it off with a screwdriver blade easily too. I’ve turned the model over and I’ll leave it to soak a bit longer.

The stuff I’m using is new, I’d imagine more recent fluid has probably got different eco friendly chemicals in compared to the old stuff? It is working, but I’d have expected it to have worked better quicker than it has.
Old Nitromores stripper was better than it is now too.

This brake fluid is about all I’ve got at the moment though!
Once I’ve got sorted in the new place I’ll use something better. Tbh I don’t think I’ll even be able to prime or paint this until then anyway.

Here it is pickling!

You can see bits where the paint is blistering and peeling and a few bits where I’ve scraped the soft paint away.

Chassis, wheels and suspension are fine, so I’ll leave them alone. Plastic floor/interior is fine, but the sign rack is broken, although I won’t be needing that for this anyway.

Some more Peugeots

Still in the E's, these are from Elysee. Not much info on them, but made in France in the 1990s and cast in resin. Lots of French manufacturers made 203 models so if you are into them you should be able to find almost every style going.

They look incomplete but obviously the workers at the factory couldn't be trusted to fit the trim and decals properly.

Found quite a bit of stuff at the boot sale today, unfortunately more people are asking £1 each for tatty old toys, but I did bag 15 cars for £4 which offset that nicely. I didn't photograph all the bits I saw but here's a selection

I did consider that red Fiat 1500 but it was £3 and I have one. Red Superfast VW 1500 is also very unusual but had cracked pillars, as did the gold Cougar. There were other Matchbox available though

I'm getting concerned about the Mrs. Last week she hoiked the standard Corgi Range Rover out of a box. This week it's the Rescue version

I find these Husky dustcarts fascinating. It's not a replica of some exotic sports car that was getting hurled around race tracks in the 60s, but I love how the mechanism works, and that someone had to design it to work in an era before computers were commonplace

In other news, I bought a Peugeot.

I'd rather forget the frustrating process of actually getting it in my sweaty mitts, but it's here now. I was quite obsessed with this version of the Quasar at junior school, I suppose when you're getting dropped off in a 1500 Dolomite, this looks like it's from another planet

A recent find is this rather lovely Guisval Peugeot 504.

Whats the best way to get the headlight jewels out? Normally I can push them about to loosen them and they drop out, but on the Transit they sit ‘in’ the wings a fair bit and it’s hard to do, plus they’re stuck in fast! I don’t really want to break them as I want to reuse them.

What I’ve done successfully before is drill a small pilot hole from behind the jewel seat and push it out

Also, that sounds interesting and I'm now visualising various possibilities!

Yes if you you see Tridek decks loose, I would be after one or two to make that Quaddek idea.  I don’t need them to drive up elevating ramps, I just NEED STORAGE

Just ran back up the thread

Its gobsmacking what you get in that Essex boot sale.  This part of the world, and many place travelled Dorset Sussex Devon Somerset I never see that sort of thing. Usually babies clothes, stock bulk training shoes, pilfered Xboxes and mainly recent HW and shedloads of Days alone

Guiloy? Never seen one!

You've jinxed it now - bought half a Matchbox trailer at the first one today.

Pretty sure I bought the other part off him last week too

I think you’ve to pick what car boot you go to, there’s a few near us but it’s full of folk that have got nothing to start with, so it’s piles of dead folks clothes, broken tools, redundant kitchen gadgets etc. Ideally you want to find one where they are half decent off.

Lately I’ve just gone to the Swapmeets, the one near us is ok, the prices aren’t too wild all things considered.

At first I thought this was odd as the Polizei are found of the Mercedes and Porsche vehicles. But then I found this picture on the interwebs of a 304 from the same area of Saarbrücken.
