Don't know if this was one of the smelly versions

Majorette 227 Mustang Convertible

Ah hang on

The smelly orange wheels were only meant to be on the Tutti Frutti one in black with an orange playing basketball on the hood (bonnet)

IMG_0560.JPG.6f2b57dd52fecf5c00db7949b934b45e.JPG

What your one was supposed to get was this chunky black set of wheels

IMG_0557.PNG.6e89cfe3fee1f5c45daf2b2355f62beb.PNG

Or if with the caravan set, a more standard type of wheels

IMG_0558.PNG.7865922af317d85fe90a518030661e7c.PNG

Which means 1) you may have an error car and can retire early, 2) need to find a red caravan to match

Are the wheels still smelly orangish?

I'm not in the habit of smelling my cars, especially if they've not had a trip around the sink!

However:

Well then, another Friday - and though it was a misty moisty morning down by the loughshore, with more than a nip of autumn evident, Belfast was quite radiant in golden splendour...

IMG_20230908_0724202.thumb.jpg.5983bbdfd98b1497ade153b7e5abfd0d.jpg

The beat-to-shit Corolla Of Good Fortune also greeted me by the market gates, which I took as a sign of munificence.

Though, inside, it seems that Club 7:30 is swelling its ranks...

However, as I couldn't yet discern any diecast tat on the stall, I wasn't too bothered...

IMG_20230908_0725372.thumb.jpg.074ff71f89d3d6f3af543d2f309aa8b4.jpg

...and then I clocked what was beneath the stall and rapidly became very bothered.

Having managed to get myself up and in before my Nemesis, it was irritating to have to hang about, tatless, and naturally he was along about five minutes later.

We were both getting twitchy.

Eventually, agonisingly, some bits of diecast tat began to appear up top.

IMG_20230908_0736482.thumb.jpg.5af01997772e029071ce29cec74b859a.jpg

Corgi Classics Showman's range, some late 90s Lledo Vanguards twin sets and - some of the NEW Corgi Toys sold via the official Hornby Hobbies shop, based on the Blue DTC/ Corgi Model Club replicas but in unique paint finishes.

Three blue E-Type 2+2, three gold-and-black Mustang, three red Volvo P1800S, and three red-and-white Porsche Carrera 6 - priced at £15 each they weren't exactly cheap-cheap, but still representing a sizeable discount over the current £21.99 RRP from Corgi.

Cuckoo-in-the-nest Dinky Honda S600 was also £15.

More of the vintage toy buses we first saw a few months ago - Matchbox, Corgi, Tins Toys and Mandarin.

Not quite my bag, but Nemesis is quite fond of these and bagged a couple - most of these are Code 2s within the boxes, some more excitingly finished than others.

IMG_20230908_0759092.thumb.jpg.8720c8c81e871e4cbd28754c95020f39.jpg

While some boxes opened to reveal unusual green and gold painted '100th Anniversary of the Circle Line' versions, or '1000 Years of the Tynwald' others were just red with a plain white sticker in a boring font saying stuff along the lines of 'Pangbourne Bus and Steam Rally 1981'

IMG_20230908_0753262.thumb.jpg.ced0294211e1706f4a066e215fcfc149.jpg

Lone Star Routemaster was a bit crude but still quite charming.

Big 1/18 Corvette was by Revell.

Various other 1/24 and similar appeared:

IMG_20230908_0753132.thumb.jpg.056069e54c5d94b95b0ce9d1c5c67c21.jpg

Some Bburago, some Polistil, some Corgi, some no-name.

IMG_20230908_0756152.thumb.jpg.1d0132635aef5bb6ddd98d1403f4cab0.jpg

Some horses too.

(Schleich, I believe)

Corgi Scammell showman's wrecker did tempt me a bit, but I held my breath and the moment passed.

IMG_20230908_0756282.thumb.jpg.4c2d58fe26c7a9604cda5ca68933f3f1.jpg

Other oddities began to pop up too - including this Merit Alfa plastic kit; built, but still largely intact - but £40 asked.

IMG_20230908_0755532.thumb.jpg.7ba30a9288f677728061ddcf4248cbd4.jpg

Oof.

Dinky Humber Hawk in a weird aftermarket collectors' cardboard box is one we've seen before - and this was picked up by Nemesis.

But where oh where were the sublime Corgi Ford H semi trucks?

Posted

Some other, cheaper stuff started to be unboxed too.

Tenner on the bigger stuff, like last week - but only a fiver on the smaller items.

IMG_20230908_0754162.thumb.jpg.d475eec376d58224ff8b6ba7ebdfbd22.jpg

Don't think there was much here to tickle our bus fans:

IMG_20230908_0800232.thumb.jpg.171d2132165af0c3147de4ae91e465a7.jpg

Detail Corvette, Corgi Zodiac and Trav not too bad at a fiver, mebbe.

IMG_20230908_0800132.thumb.jpg.19d51d6b620ca25f2677a3c7d967f1f4.jpg

I've found a few of these Corgi Motoring Memories A35s before, but none boxed.

IMG_20230908_0759432.thumb.jpg.10b8c2bf2f32dc5b6f37de3ba92654bb.jpg

I think this casting would go on to be improved and later rolled out in the Corgi Vanguards range, but this is a bit basic.

I was still hopping from foot to foot a little, wondering what was going on with those Corgi trucks under the stall... was Market Blokey waiting until the Nemesis squared him up for his morning finds and departed, before bringing them out?

IMG_20230908_0759152.thumb.jpg.b2c84905c3a9804b5fa12f390e20d9d3.jpg

Because that's happened before...

Just went across to Corgi website and saw the blue Jaguar,  red Volvo and Goldstang are £22 inc shipping

So what's happened there then?  Are they overstocked and selling off some in bulk at the Tuesday auction?

Posted

Eventually, my diecast fellow-traveller did take his box - containing the big 1/12 Jaguar XJ220, Polistil Porsche, four Lesney buses, a blue Corgi reissue E-Type and (bargainously, for a fiver) a Vanguards 'Hidden Treasures' Allegro in a tatty box - and headed off into the morning.

I sidled up and made enquiries about the Corgi trucks under the stall, which had now had some other boxes strategically placed over them.

"Naw, sorry - they're already sold. I'm just holding them."

Well, bollocks.

I mean, I daresay they were at least £60 each, probably more - so there was never any chance of bringing them home with me - but still...

So it seems there's someone else, mebbe - someone who gets in even earlier and spends even more.

I wonder if it's Mr Smiley, the taciturn fellow who sings under his breath and apparently had £100 to drop on that massive Guiltoy Honda Gold Wing last week.

Hmmm.

It's like a bloody computer game - just as you get a handle on how to beat one level boss, a tougher one comes along.

Tat Fighter II.

So, slightly disconsolately, I sloped off to see what else there was...

Posted

He says he collects them for himself, but I daresay he passes stuff on too... doesn't seem to be a serial flipper though - he's quite passionate about them...

How much was the big Jag 220?

Dunno - the other unboxed 1/18 were a priced tenner, so I'm sure it was £15/£20.

I did have a sneaky eBay search set up a while ago to search on stuff he had picked up previously, radius 10 miles from Belfast, but there was nothing I recognised

Right - I have to scoot, regrettably, as I'm off today BUT I have a lot of stuff to get done around the house.

So I need to get back and break out the tools to plasterboard a room...

It's not been a day of wonders and delights, but some smallish purchases were made - more to come later on those, sure!

Those Superwheels would be very cool if they weren't buses - were you tempted by the Corgi Merc bus on its card?

Red repro Volvo, Jaguar XK120 1:36, Matchbox 1986 Peterbuilt Amoco Tanker

Also two from the 2007 Matchbox 5-Pack 'Airways': Utility Truck (Mini Tanker) and City Bus

Theres another version of the GT40 with number 9 instead. I can’t remember which is the rarer though. As a collector you must attain both😆

The 9 is just the 6 decal placed upside down.

The two rare versions are the one with red wheels...

and the yellow painted version.

But surely to qualify at collector status level, you would need to also obtain the yellow variation from the G-4 Race Track Set !
