I did a bit of window reshaping, lowered it and swapped the wheels for Hot Wheels steels. Bit of detail and Bob's ya uncle

Same old stock though! It must be like living in Bulgaria where they had the same casting available for 20 odd years!

It's so boring, I don't even bother looking any more. They must have made shit loads, since stock levels don't seem to be an issue.

I think it's because all us collectors have bought all we want, so until different stock arrives not much will sell.

Seems like Mattel supplied 4.5 billion identical cases at the start of 2023

What a contrast in that Nissan set. The cars are lovely but the truck looks like something out of a Poundland no-name Chinese pack, plus it's clearly a smaller scale so the cars are way too big for it.

It would be nice if Asda brought back their Adventure Wheels series using Maisto castings, correct scale haulers for the cars

Back online!

Well, that was a terrifying 36 hours of reality.

Let's not do that again.

I very nearly rang the PSNI to get a search out in County Antrim to find a contact address for a Mr Laverty the tat supplier.  It was a worry and sleep was lost.

Without access to this thread, I suddenly questioned whether half the pleasure of my tat collecting was the setting up and taking photos of acquisitions to share with other saddos enthusiasts. Plus the loss of all the knowledge and research that brings needless lumps of metal alive.

Thank cripes it's back - started harboring thoughts of selling up!

Yes can it be pulled down again please, for say a fortnight, so I can get my marriage man cave back on track.  Thanks.

Another missed opportunity in that retro Nissan Skyline set.  That truck casting is Fleet Street

20230614_185841.jpg

Last time they used Aero Lift, on the first retro Nissan set for 2020

2020NissanSetAerolift.thumb.webp.c6ffdf0120e1b362e8c65f231e700595.webp

Why on earth did they not use the Fleet Flyer cab

or the Sakura Sprinter cab which looks like a Hino ZM?  Would have been more fitting, despite the Skyline mods being 'modern' mods (well, from the 90s-00s)

Surely the box rear piece could be substituted by the plastic car deck piece?  Oh of course not, silly me, because Mattel planning.

Sense says to move the unsold stock back to the distribution centre in bulk, to force them to rethink why they don't put the ranges only seen in other countries to sell as well instead of creating the glut over here

I got myself a little result off eBay earlier in the week. Classic case of someone not knowing what they had I think!

Advertised as a job lot of 7 Matchbox cars.
First glance they all looked pretty old, and in good condition. But, there was something in the back with diamonds! Matchbox don’t have diamonds…

These were the Matchbox ones, which for the price I think are nice.

Green Ford is absolutely lovely, just needs the rear cover.
Vauxhall is very good and still has the tailgate.
Husky Studebaker is also really nice, but missing the camera man. Fine with me, I’ll make a replacement rear roof section from plastic card and cover the broken hole.
Jag, nice.
Mustang, nice.
There was an early stake truck in there too but I’ve put that down somewhere!

But the undoubted star of this particular show is…

Impy Imperial.

Complete. No damage other than a few bits of paint, mainly on the doors.

Nobody seemed to see it though, so I ended up paying about £1.90 each on these. Which, for the Impy I’d say is an absolute bargain!

Just because I happen to have both to hand, a comparison between Husky and Matchbox Studebaker wagons.

Both really nice little models imho. The colour of the Husky is lovely (I’m a real sucker for blue cars!). The front end detail on the Matchbox is really nice and the sliding roof a good feature (provided it’s still on there!).
I think I prefer the Matchbox version slightly over the Husky but there’s not much between them imho.

A few more Hot Wheels added to stock too!

The Bronco is fantastic! One of my favourite Hot Wheels castings. I had a black version as a kid but it’s long gone now so good to get this white one.

Shame the T-Bird has been squashed.

Cougar is from the original red line series (1968?) sadly though it’s a bit rough! Can you get a replacement hood for these?

Is that SideKick an older version or a later release version? I think that came in a few colours over the years?

Got a couple of those.  Or might be three.  Not sure. Can't get into that room anymore
