Furtive snaps time.. These are for Andy18s as requested. Burago Peugeot, BMWs and a Sapphire, and two Corgi Mantas which I thought were Burago until about five minutes ago.

And of course I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of Corgis on my way back to the car having pretty much given up for the day. I did wonder momentarily whether it's the same casting modified but the rear side windows make me think otherwise. The Dinky Porsche had a certain appeal too, despite a yellowed insert on the box.

Wednesday Garden Party Meet

Aston Martin effort today.

Corgi DB4 ; Corgi DB5 ; Dinky DB6

image.thumb.png.4159790c8ccdb3e373cda213a8460140.png

DB4 picked up at antique fair I think, a few years back.  Doubt much was given for it

image.thumb.png.9e2d5720796a54c69d3e4367a6c2a4cd.png

DB5 007 had since I was a child and have felt guilty for 30 years that I didn't look after it!  My Dad bought it new and naively thought I would; hence the guilt.  Since then, have picked up the earlier and later Corgi scales since, but they are likely already covered in this thread.

image.thumb.png.08900c8ca33f4ce9c6dd119481bc0fc1.png

DB6 swiped on eBay last year for well under a fiver.  At the time the missing axle and wheels didn't bother me as I had slot car plans for it.  Like most of my bird-brained project ideas, it got parked.

image.thumb.png.b249ca2bc1847b1b4ae25b8a714981f3.png

Also at the time I went through the motions of collecting all the series from DBR1 through Vulcan, either in static or slot car form.  Hence the DBS over the page.  I'm better now.

Forgot to add that if anybody fancies the 944 or 356, go ahead and invest a whole four quid apiece

Came home to find another Zylmex Super Drag has arrived, in a different colour and complete with wing this time

I now have a model of @Six-cylinder's Range Rover, the very vehicle that rescued Bob the Renault from Rugby. Cararama did a silver L322 in 1/72 so all it needed was new numberplates as per recent discussions here.

It came with a boat, but one that looks nothing like Teal

YR04KOB.thumb.jpg.680a941c24d065fbc43034dec5ec77bd.jpg

So I hitched it to the car trailer instead. I still can't get a model R6 so for now it can haul the bASe.

Excellent likeness to my L322 Range Rover. Trouble is I now have a blue L405 model instead, so an excuse to buy another model for your collection!

Now you would really impress Mrs6C if your could modify another boat to look like teal.

New one on me, that 944.  The 924 I remember, but not a 944 model

I found a solution to my Dinky Dragster not having any front tyres - I bought one with tyres but no stickers. They're screwed together so I can make one good version

Me too, hence wondering whether it was a modification of the 924 casting. Pretty sure it isn't but if I can be arsed tomorrow I may take some pictures in the garden of the two. The base looks different to my other Corgis too so I think it's from the late eighties or early nineties. I'd sort of grown out of them by about 1991 so probably wouldn't have taken much notice then.

Done. Also fitted the scoop the right way round. I noticed the bases were different where the engine fits, plus one is painted and one is white. The bodies are a different red too.

I have seen one with blue plastic parts/base and with and without the front body, amazing the changes made to a simple toy

I'm sure I've just spotted this model in a Corgi marketing pack I'm scanning. Let me see...

I'm scanning the pages but cannot seem to attach the PDF to my post? I'm not very good with computers!

I've started to photograph them on my phone instead.

Audi 90 (?)

Yep, I remember them well, the real thing that is.  90 was an 80 body fitted with the bigger, thrumier (thirstier) 5-cylinder engine.   Great sound on full chat

Was on the shopping list for a while, back when they were young.  Never did keep one in the end, they were a bit of a rarity; probably due to being engine donors for 80 Coupe bodies with Barry-UR-Quattro intent.  Probably

Is it because it’s one of the bought-in Solido castings?  Or am I getting mixed up.

@Datsuncog for confirmification.

Cool! Yeah I'll probably sell the tyreless one, don't really feel inclined to have every version at the mo. I have ordered the missing stickers though

Thursday Garden Table Meet.  Oh no, not more Aston Martins

These Maisto models are quite accurate and tidy for a 1/40 scaling, what with the effort on the wheels, light units, detailed folding seat interiors and opening doors.  But.. they are pretty-much worthless ?

AM Virage and  AM DB7

The tyres are shared with the DB6 - I was going to look to order a pair for the DB6. Might as well order four?  Funnily enough I remember it listed and had it on watch too, as well as the repro sticker.  World gets smaller, shocker

I was keeping back the Starter Unit for when I got hold of the matching car, to put together for when selling/on in the future. But you’ve beaten me to that with a double hitter

I added the painted bumper to the Fiesta.

I'm not sure whether to faff around making these steels fit the Fiesta, or to leave it on the originals. They are from a Lada, but are too wide.

Here is what I'm trying to achieve. This car holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first Autoshite type car I took my girlfriend out in. She'd love another!

I'd be interested in the 356, if there's been no other takers yet!

Trying to track down more of the Matchbox Dinkys, and although I'm not a huge Porsche fanboy that's the kinda price I can get behind...

...Corgi marketing pack...

Crikey, what a find! Thanks so much for those pics - yep, I think that would have been sent out to toy retailers by Corgi's marketing department, to alert them to new product lines... the tiny office in the model shop where I worked was overflowing with such mail-outs.

Very interested to see that the Corgi Centre range had a catalogue all of its own by 1989 - I have them shown in a 1988 trade catalogue, and it really threw me because I was totally unfamiliar with the line. I'd even wondered if it'd been pulled at the 11th hour and never hit the shelves, but apparently not - and the big Van Cleemput book on Corgi gives the range a passing mention too, describing it as a "wonderful toy" that won awards.

Although I was obsessively perusing the toy aisles in every shop I went to c.1989, I still don't remember ever seeing any of these. Nor have I found any since... most strange.

[Corgi Porsche 924 & 944]

@Datsuncog for confirmification.

I think the 944 is a completely new casting, compared to the 924... though I'm not sure why Corgi did this either. Possibly the 944 was designed to be slightly cheaper to make than the Mettoy-era predecessor, with a plastic base?

The same thing happened with the bodykitted Mercedes 190E, which had no relation to the earlier, non-bodykit version from 1984.

I'm just as confused!

Posted

No, it's definitely a different casting. Both nicely done though, and some kid took really nice care of them, the 924 in particular is absolutely mint. There's something strange going on with the paint on the front wing and bonnet though.. I assumed it was a casting flaw at first but it's definitely within the paint itself.
