As I posted in it's own thread, the auction of the Ixo Ford Cortina in aid of the local hospice went much better than I expected, netting a grand total of a stonking £150, a handover at the hospice is planned, as the winning bidder was unbelievably Old Ford's sister. Winner, winner chicken dinner as they say

I used to have a pull-back action monster truck version of that MC Toy/Maisto pick-up casting... never was quite sure what it was meant to be, so that's good to know, finally!

I'm not as good as some at 'restorations', but here's one I've just finished. A Husky VW pickup in some weird scale - maybe 00?

As I got it. Rear suspension was snapped. I did consider breaking the front too, as that is 'scene' for VWs, but thought better of it.

Instead I created a new rear axle carrier out of pieces of Lego.

Here is the completed truck. Not too bad for freehand brush work if I do say so myself.

That looks great and totally hides its origins.....If you ever find a complete, nice one of these elevator or tower versions they go for stupid money now.   Think the last one I saw at a toy fair (unpackaged) was about £35.   Husky scaled up some of their range later on but I think these work out around 1/64 scale.

I finally got round to finishing my Triang ship. It started looking like this:

It now looks like this, I would like to add more detail to it but I'm not sure what to paint and what colours to use

So... what you're saying is, I really should have taken a punt on this one for £2... daah!

Even more annoying since I bought most of the rest here the following week off Market Blokey (the Hatra earthmover's now with you; the blue bin lorry and ERF horsebox with Egg; and I still have the Ford bin lorry).

Some you win...

Just out of interest, over the bank holiday weekend I happened upon an architectural salvage/antiques place out on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Belfast. I wasn't expecting minishite, but minishite there was...

Maybe a bit pricey, I felt, but then some of these things appear quite sought after so maybe they're fairly priced?

Bburago 1/24 Renault R5s:

IMG-20190504-WA0018.thumb.jpg.c01336a252a72ba8f9f0478a8bd207de.jpg

IMG-20190504-WA0015.thumb.jpg.79f81be3bfbd228c2e777512b5fd11eb.jpg

The yellow version was complete and priced at £15; the red non-kitted version was missing its bootlid and priced at £5.

Bburago Range Rover missing its lights and roof furniture, but structurally complete. £10 for this one.

I thought I'd taken a better pic of this Polistil Fiat 1107 Nuevo Campagnola, but apparently not.

Not in bad nick, and still on a plastic plinth. Priced at a tenner too.

Other stuff appeared in cabinets, mostly restored (some better than others) at around £15 each:

If there's anything here which really grabs anyone's attention, I'm likely to be back here on Saturday...

They had some odd full-size shite lying outside too, which I'll slap up presently on the Lazy Spotter's Thread.

If those little hardback Motor Car books are still about - and cheap - they are worth picking up for the great illustrations of often unusual vehicles.   Early "partworks" they were issued both for sale through book sellers but also printed up for Spar groceries and Sunday Times etc to sell.   They date to around the 1959/61 period.    I have a full set somewhere but didn't find them last time I looked....!

Ahhh, excellent! Yeah, I wasn't sure what they were - I spent a while peering at them in the case, but the place was about to close and I didn't have time to ask. Very nice! Will have a look when I'm back; they do seem quite charming little books.

I am sadly finding this site harder and harder to use, forcing the site to try and open the change themes option brings up the forum page again with me logged out, the settings function is in block capitals, highlighted and doesn't work, same goes when trying to search for my topics, it is so thoroughly broken now, Even when changing font sizes, it simply reverts back to the same small font, I could get the mods shafted under disability legislation, but that would bring an end to the forum, and land the mods with a fine. Sadly my disability has made the forum near impossible to use, and when I point out glaring faults, I get shouted down by some windowlicking mate of the mods with a very low post count. I can see why Junkman left, he has a very valid point, BV had the balls to stand up to the mods too, and he got forced off and banned, he too had very valid concerns. I will post on other social media, but not on here

With the exception of the yellow 5. the Bburago stuff is perhaps a shade overpriced, in light of the fact that there are fairly significant bits missing.

The yellow 5 is decent and quite hard to find as it's mostly the mid engined Turbo model that's kicking around so £15 is decent for that.

I have been lucky to get some very nice 1/24 Bburagos from members on here, as well as Polistils, for a very low price and all in great nick, usually boxed too.

Sure they did a XR3i version of that in red by Corgi as well. Think it’s in the 1983 catalogue.

Posted

They never did an XR3i in the 1/36 scale, but they did a white RS1600i version, which was basically the GL casting with a boot spoiler and different wheels and RS1600i graphics. It was very half arsed, and was just on the cusp of the collapse of the company, which wasn't helped by the ill fated, and frankly shite Dragon 32 venture. I am now firmly taking a back seat as the mods have ignored a PM highlighing how broken this place has become. If anyone wants to stay in touch, PM me, even my Mrs thinks this site is appalling to view

The mods clearly aren't listening sadly, anyway, a big favour to ask, anyone selling a Vanguards Ford Fiesta? Not bothered which as I just want it for the glazing, as a kamikazi Lada slammed in to my XR2 when rejigging my cabinet. Boy did I swear!

In other news it looks like a few more code 3's will be in my collection when funds allow, a mk5 Ecort Encore, a Sierra Sapphire in base gingercators flavour, and on the bus side, an Ailsa B55 and NC GM standard Atlantean in the livery of my great aint's firm.  I think my mate Tony is planning a cardinal red holy grey grille Sierra mk1 5 door. Hmmm as they say, anyhoo, if any folks have a Fiesta going spare as a donor, please drop me a PM, preferrably not Teresa Maybot

Aye, I'm struggling a little as well with the new format. I thought it was mostly down to my own antipathy to change, but since others are having much more serious bother then maybe it's not just me being a whinger.

Didn't Christine offer out one of his duplicate Vanguards Fiestas in racing trim a week or two ago? £20 posted, I seem to recall (annoying when you just want the glazing, mind).

I dropped a Corgi Marina onto the corner of a magazine rack once and punched out half the windscreen - deeply frustrating!!

A familiale has joined my Norev 404 line up (even though I'm selling the saloon in the same colour!)

^^^ Just noticing that the front end on the Familiale is totally different from the saloon version. You'd think they might have saved themselves a bit of work and not started again from scratch, but hey... guess Corgi did the same with the Mk3 Escort hatch and van versions.

Very nice anyway!

Yes, I spotted that - my Norev bible says the estate came out 3 years after the saloon (in Norev years). I believe earlier models actually had plastic in the rear window, like this

6365235485_82e52b42eb_b.jpg

Shame that became a delete, maybe they just got broken or a money saving device to get the returns on the new casting!

However, apparently the Eligor version is the same mould - so they got some cash back there too..(I believe this is the Eligor version)

Plus one on the new format from me too.   I've had a long, hard day and used to unwind a bit on here, now it seems to be having an opposite effect.    I have to squint at my posts, the pictures seem to go where they like and frankly there isn't the interaction there used to be.    Might just find summat else to do for a bit.

I'm struggling myself with similar issues to use AS on my phone which I mostly rely on, as I have limited Computer access at present. I can't view any previous page on a topic without it taking me back to the first page and if I like something I can't remove the popup on the page without refreshing the page or removing the like.

Hope you can continue sharing your efforts here Felly as you do some sterling work mate.

Most of the problems about site access sound like software incompatibly to me.

Is everybody running current, up-to-date internet browsers?

Yes, that's the Eligor version alright, same as mine - supposedly in police trim, according to the box (maybe explains the big roof mount aerial).

Weirdly, I couldn't drum up much interest in the one I had during last year's clear-out! Can't recall who got it in the end, but I genuinely didn't realise it was all-plastic (well, rhodialite) until the very end, having bought it in France c.1995.

Re. Forum viewing woes, as far as I know my Firefox mobile browser was updated with the latest version only over the weekend, and my head's turned with all the text shunting up and down the page at random while trying to post this. Just keeps pinging right up to the top of the post, and I have to scroll back down again. Quite,  quite maddening.

Well I had to sacrifice a 404 in much worse condition, but my best one has both it's 'eyes' in place now.

Well, Hattons have come to the rescue, they had a used Nordic Blue Vanguards Fiesta L in, which goes for mental money on egay for just £14 plus post, which was £2.75 shipping, As Uncle George Takei, everyone's fave gay uncle would say..... 'Oh my'.

Seems that Market Blokey has had little in the way of diecast success lately, as there was nowt of great interest there this morning.

A couple of the late '80s Corgi Classics sportscars (as per last week, but now with bonus damaged boxes) and a handful of Days Gone/Cameo dreck. The boxed Merc Coupé (may or may not be Minichamps) is still around too, but other than that - zip. He has a lot of horse brasses this week, mind... also quite a few old car manuals, dating from the 1940s to the 1980s, which I'll try to post up somewhere more appropriate shortly.

The 50p boxes have been heavily picked through since last week, so there's now not all that many left in either - and I've already posted them all up here multiple times, so I saved my pixels this week. Still plenty of mashed Matchbox, crushed Corgi and missing-bits Majorette, if that's your thang.

Oh, except there was this, quite unexpectedly...

20190510_124547.thumb.jpg.6e26122016db148ea8692ab94b7ce222.jpg

20190510_124620.thumb.jpg.2e05f3256b526fec2986624b67438f6d.jpg

Not sure if it's a fresh addition, or had simply been lurking in the corner of the box, but this Hendrickson Tractor Unit (Matchbox Major Set No.9) is in surprisingly good nick.

The trailer drawbar was also in the tat box, even more surprisingly. The trailers themselves weren't anywhere to be seen, sadly.

20190510_124556.thumb.jpg.8d26b0982362987752fbf9014de19ce0.jpg

It would originally have appeared thusly:

1132462495_MatchboxMajorSeries9-InterstateDoubleFreighter.thumb.jpg.c0339d0d4c76693282e57eaad3b4726b.jpg

266716482_MatchboxMajorSeries9-HendricksonInterstateDoubleFreighter.thumb.jpg.ee7466e3eeae141252b8640d039e5aea.jpg

Despite repeat viewings of Convoy and owning a massive (well, A3) picture book of US Trucks as a child, I must confess I had never even heard of Hendrickson trucks before today.

This pic appears to show a similar real-life counterpart to the Lesney casting:

986613740_HendricksonCabover.thumb.jpg.6365cd81f0ee32ee318f245f329a7a33.jpg

Quite a venerable and specialist truck builder, apparently, who divested their truck manufacturing concern in the mid-80s to concentrate on making suspension componentry. They also built some totally batshit trucks, which I must pop up on the relevant thread... just look at this 1975 Hendrickson Paymaster.

1982431976_1975HendricksonPaymaster.thumb.png.b6bec3ca442f1014bcf205203bb01835.png

Nuts looking, but designed in the US fuel-crisis era to be aerodynamic and super-easy to maintain. Only 14 built, apparently. But what a valiant failure. Suddenly, those fantasy vehicles from Matchbox and Hot Wheels don't look so crazy...

I also picked up a handful of scrap from the bottom of the boxes:

20190510_124652.thumb.jpg.f89b7d3e46da93b8024aa312761d8384.jpg

Yellow thing is from the Corgi Commer set; boom belongs to a Corgi Whizzwheels Ford D Series skip truck; rear tailgate upper is from a Dinky Range Rover (I think), and dunno about the Model-T style front end, but at a guess it's off an exploded Days Gone or something.

Is anyone's interested in any of the above, let me know!
