Sadly, the plan Lord Sterling and I had to save the 820 Sterling saloon that upset Felly so much fell through when the brother of the chap selling it (the brother owned the car) decided he wanted to keep it. Ho Hum...so a quick trawl of the Rover800 forum and a good look at some of the 800 fanatic's FS treads and a deal was done with a fine midlands gentleman to ship this spaceship to the Scooters system....

collection TBA -

it's a '96 820 Vitesse Sport conbobulated by combining two 820 Vitesse Sports into the one car. Not perfect but importantly a reliable and mechanically proven and recorded daily which is what I need as I will take the BX off the road for a few months in the near future. Some charver in the past has removed the oem air filter box/system and replaced it with an OMG COWNE FILTRZ and a DUMP VALV ITZ SOUNDZ JUZT LIK VIN DEESEL IN FAST ND FURRYOS ONEST M9! which can cause running issues in warm weather (I had a Saab turbo with the same problem) - So I'll be converting it back to OEM spec - the kind vendor (who didn't fit the kit) has all the bits

It has superb shite credentials because not only is it an 800 BUT the boot lid is a different colour to the car! - one of the cars was blue and the other green innit - he's done a pretty reasonable job of painting the panels he moved from the other car but never got round to the boot lid - so it will be CANZ or probably just source a 2nd hand one in the right colour

not sure about that alternator though!

I'd buy another one in readyness! Top purchase, Scooters, I hope you enjoy baiting repmobiles with it. :D:D

Worth buying purely for that sticker on the centre console which I sincerely hope is included with the car...

Great stuff Scooters! I know you mentioned this to me a while back after the 820 deal fell through :(

Car looks great, Sterling leathers, nice door cards and OEM floor mats FTW!

I changed the door cards on my mk2 Sterling for the same set as yours sometime back:

Scooters was looking for a Rover 800 to buy, I found a Rover 820i that a work collegue was selling and posted it up here (The one that Felly got upset over) Scooters expressed interest in it and we set the ball rolling. Due to time/money constraints I agreed to buy the Rover 820i, store it for a bit and sell it Scooters when he could get down here to pick the car up. Unfortunately the deal fell through when at the last minute, the seller told me his brother wanted Rover 820i back as it was his car.

Meanwhile Scooters found another 800 for sale which he has bought. The pics in my post are of my own Sterling which is currently hibernating in one of my rented lock-ups.

That looks WELL FIT M8. In all seriousness though, that's a top purchase, and I hope it does Sterling service.

Impressed. a twonk modded Rover 800 with grey leather. That's about as shite as motoring can get.

it's well up there - it even has a second engine fitted with no aircon! therfore in TRU SHIETE FORM the aircon controls do TOWTALLY FURK ALL!

due to the cheapness of bits I can get the aircon parts for under 20 quids should I so want!

Nice! With that matt grey bonnet, you could be on the cover of Evo :D

Class stuff Scoots.

Are those white marks on the bonnet and drivers door birdshit or something else?

Previously owned by Stu_CDX?

Nice work Scooters, much of a trip to collect or local?

Posted

No idea what the marks are - suspect its from carrying a spare setof WHEELZ with partwornz (included in sale!!!)

#Billy - no idea mate, it's owned by Ian from Market Harboro' he's had it for about 5 years and its been his unloved daily backup car but never let him down. It was Scooters Towerz or the bridge. Long boring train journey to Market Harboro for me - probably next Wednesday followed by an OMG SCOOTAZ roadtrip back to Sweatyland

Speaking of roadtrips - I am helping a mate out over the next month - he runs a commercial water supplier and needs meters read - 6 AWSUM RD TRIPZ PLND - exotic areas such as:

FIFE

Clackmannanshire, Stirlingshire and West Lothian!

I intend to DO IT ALL IN SHITE and TAKE THE CAMRA as many of these areas rival the LINCONSHIRE RIVIERA for A1 CHOD

Writeupz will follow!

Well, collected it and so far like a kid in a sweet shop - working on a chod collecting story just now-

the car

good bits:

well, it's a late Vitesse 820 which means it is a sport turbo

it has a 16V Turbo charged 2.0 'T' Series engine which pumps out a class leading Torque output of 136 at a measly 2500 revs

it has the elegant TorSen differential for power distribution to the front wheels

lower and tighter suspension

17" rims

all of which make this stick to the road in a very non Rover 800 way

in addition this one has a stainless exhaust, full leather, recent gear box and new old stock head

more on the collection in the next few days

136 lb/ft of torque? It's quite a bit more than that.

Aye, though apparently there's some electronic torque limiter to stop you fragging the gearbox. Must be the modern equivalent of a bit of gaffer tape and hope. Still should be at least 160lb/ft though, and I'm not sure whether the limiter was just on later cars like the 200/400.

FThat's 136@2500 revs....sorry, should have added that that is without a turbo charger. The t series was quite a lot more torquey at lower revs than its period rivals not the most powerful but in the real world you drive the torque curve not the power curve.

With the turbo it is a good chunk higher. I'll need to check.

The thing that haz really blown me away is the mpg...the cost of fuel ruins fun in scooby and the bx as well but this beast just sips the stuff! Last time I felt this smug was in 1993 at the wheel of my first XUD turbo

Oh and I was a bit naughty to some repmobiles dawdling then booting it :D

Its 177 if its a sport.

All post 96 820 vitesses are sports...they dropped the lower spec and the sport nomenclature

I am slap bang middle between Coldsteam and Greenlaw just of the A697 at orange lane, if you speek to Whitevanman ask him if he still wants some 16inch mondeo alloys as they are still sitting gathering dust
