You can have the Supra, CIH, it comes from the wrong side of the Pacific for me! I'll take the proper car, that's hiding behind its own hood.

Deal! When do we pick 'em up ? lol

I know what you mean Trig, there's bugger all about at the minute. Probably a good thing from my point of view as I've currently got too many cars and not enough money, but if I were actively looking to buy something I'd be quite frustrated at the moment. I'm sure things will start perking up soon though, now the Christmas / New Year slump is behind us. I'm half thinking about selling the Scimitar at the moment, but that would be too new for you (it's B reg), and probably too scruffy too...

A Chevette would be great fun, simple and cheap to run too. And as it won't take up loads of garage space so you'll have room to do maintenance on it under cover aswell.

Furthermore, if you've got some money left over buy an old shitheap for a few hundred to clog up the driveway :)

This has popped up tonight locally for £1995 and looks like a fun way to blow £2k, It's the same seller who was selling the Mk2 3.0 Ghia Capri until a few days ago so I'm guessing it's a trade in from that.

I'm thinking about viewing this either this afternoon or tomorrow, In the photos it looks very clean and well priced and I've always fancied a Capri so that would be a good way of getting it out of my system, apart from the modern plates can anyone see any issues i should be watching out for with it?, also silly question but are these belt driven or chain, if they are belt driven are they an expensive job?

Grot in many places Trig, base of A post is a PITA, likewise headlamp buckets, but an easy car to check, esp a white one. 3 timing chains IIRC.

Posted

These are a pushrod engine so no timing belts to worry about. Did the Colognes have the fibre timing gear issues or was that just the Essex? Anyway, the engine in my Scimitar is basically the same engine with a carburettor, and that's done 230,000 miles without breaking up so they can't be too bad...

Well I've just got back from a 3 hour round trip to Norwich to look at the Capri, I wish i stayed at home now TBH.

The Crapi looked nice from a bit of a distance but it's had a awful respray done, the underside was still white from over spray, the rear quater had some many runs it looked like the top of the Alps, The roof was completely rotten, there was door lock marks under the handles on each door which had been filled and the paint had sunk into leaving a nasty imprint.

The front valance had been hand painted. Bumpers were a real glossy black and the door trim was hanging off hand had a massive lip of paint above them, and the old rust was starting to come through the new paintwork again...

Apart from that it was nice, I rang the seller up (the car was outside his home) and explaned my findings which he agreed with and asked if i'd be willing to pay £1500 for it, which i wouldn't.

But not all was lost, around the corner from his was this stunning Acclaim, It was totally mint inside and out and was parked outside what looked like some OAP flats, Lovely!

Bloody hell. It was only 3 or 4 years ago when Manta Hatches were £300 smokers everyone ignored infavour of 2 door coupes, even mint examples. Definite ex-shite.

Dear god, what have i just done...

Sounds like your about to pay the winning bid of £2,113.00 assuming you've 'won' the auction.

Tell me I'm wrong.

Nice one! That's a superb colour.

EDIT - don't go the A14 route to the Midlands. The M1 interchange is closed while they take the bridge down.

Posted

That looks superb! Two litre too, so should hustle along quite well. Worcestershire is a bit of a trek, but should be quite a good motorway car.

Nope, your right, You not approve?

I've always wanted one and this looks pretty decent, much more sensible then the some of the other stuff I've been looking at, I'll be adding the original interior again as the leather looks out of place.

I'm just trying to contact the seller to arrange collection, hopefully tomorrow but there's no answer at the moment.

Looks great, always loved the Mk3 ''coke bottle' Cortinas. Fingers crossed it is a nice as it looks Mike. :D

And that Acclaim is a beauty!

Posted

Yum. That looks very nice. I bet the Alfa Momo's in it are more comfortable but they do look out of place.

Posted

I've spoke to the owner now, He's the West Midlands Cortina rep or something and seems to know his beans, The car's never been welded or painted and is in great condtion, as is the engine, He has 3 others as well, I've arrange to collect it tomorrow!

Posted

I'd have said drop by but I'm in Surrey picking up Cavette's scrapmetal!

Looks like a good un!

You need to lower it and get banded steels on it, paint it matt black, get a luggage rack, etc etc

Hasn't that got the wrong grill and headlights for a GXL? I thought GXLs had 4 headlights and when facelifted they had the flat dash and became a 2000E with that front.

Never seen that grey interior on one though

Thanks guys, Just charging the camera battries up ready for tomorrow!

SO EXCITED! :P:P:mrgreen:

The front seats are out of something else, possibly an Alfa by the looks of it.

I approve greatly! Hopefully it wont be the end of this thread though.

Cortina looks nice, clean and most importantly completely original, if your picking up and driving from Worcestershire there are plenty of long and winding A-roads around that part that should hopefully prove a nice drive for you.

Cant wait to see more pics from when you pick it up.

Posted

Yes they are Alfa i believe, it comes with it original interior though so as long as it's tidy then I'll refit it again and sell the leather one.

I'm rather envious of your drive home tomorrow, can't think of many better ways to spend a few hours than behind the wheel of a new motor.
