That Capri is stunning, It's been up for sale for a while now, but TBH, I'm not keen on traveling 320 miles for a car, It would be just my luck that it's a right shit heap once I got there! If it was a lot closer i would have been to look at it by now.

There's two Victor FB's for sale at the moment in Colchester, I have thought about it but again they aren't a car that i really fancy, I feel that they are more of a car for someone older then me, that's the same problem as the Avenger above as well.

The Alfa is stunning, My mum's friend had one back in the 80's, I can remember her collecting me from the Beavers in it once, It was the bee's knees, The trouble with those is that I'm scared of it killing itself within the first few weeks of ownership.

This one here comes up as less then 5 miles away, check out the interior in it!

Thanks for the suggestions so far though!

Oh my fuggin word that Alfa is teh sex. I don't think they're any worse than any other chod* for reliability and rust.

That Amazon is on my watch list, It's stunning, that's the same seller that had the red 2.0 122 that i bidded on last month, I think i perfer the 2.0 3 doors more, not to say i dislike that one above though, a red 123S in red would be a dream machine!.

Volvo Amazons are seriously cool cars. And built like brick shitehouses!

Page 49 of this week's CCW there is a 1976 Jade Green Princess 2200HLS, with T&T. And it's in Ipswich :) £1650. Contact email [email protected]. Owned by a hotelier? Suffolk's answer to Basil Fawlty perhaps?!

Or page 64, Dolomite 1500HL 34,500 miles 12months MoT £2750 in Essex, looks poo brown from the photo with Sprint alloys. Large history file. Must be good for that money.

The Crown? He's a collector of autotat!

He's been trying to sell that for a long while now, It sat outside the pub for over a year unmoved, He also has the Rancho as seen in the photo, That pub has closed down now and is in the process of being sold of so I expect i won't be seeing much there any longer.

That Dolomite sounds nice but It's too much money for a 1500, That's Capri's look hot as well, especailly that Gold one, the red Mk1 is also nice but looks a little tatty.

I quite fancy a Ford Corsair, What are the 1.7 V4's like?.

Posted

Dunno about the 1.7, but I had a 2000E which was lushly comfy and had endless torque. If I were you Trig, I'd be fondling that Princess about now.....

Posted

I heard the 1700 V4 was a pig of an engine, and not that reliable. Didn't realise that pub had shut to be honest. I notice the Simca 1500 has moved from its spot outside, to the corner. Looking at it from a distance, it seems to be engineless.

Now there's an idea, buy a pub and fill the car park with your own shite so there's no room for punters to park! The Princess looks a nice colour/trim combination, and I agree about the Dolomite, that's more like Sprint money.

Would your budget stretch a bit Trigger? In the For Sale section at the NEC today there was a standard mk1 Escort up for, ahem, £65,000.

Posted

Sadly my budget is £2500, Why was there lots of stuff about when i was trying to sell the car then suddenly as soon as i sell it there's nothing?

The law of sod in action there Trigger!

I bet the £65k Escort was that white Lotus-described one with the iffy paint job.

My dad's still got his Victor sitting here Trigger. It's a smart car, but will need a bit of bodywork doing soon (there is a bit of plod in the arches and bubbling in the doors). It has a full history from new and the interior was retrimmed at a cost of over £2k in 2004. My dad's fed up of Ebay idiots picking holes in it and expecting a concours car for the price of a Condition 2. Give me a PM if you're interested, it will be well under your budget.

I've been offered this very rare 1968 Volvo 142S in my budget, I don't know a huge amount about these apart from it's good looking and very, very rare being a 2 door, Worth a look?, What do i need to look for on these?

Go for it. Volvos are generally bomb proof. They are often pretty rustproofed too. Do these have the transaxle like the 340?

Posted

To be honest i don't know, I do know it's got the 1.8 twin carb engine which are meant to be quite nippy, they only made the 142 in this country for 2 years so it's mega rare.

A back street Volvo garage in Plumstead is selling it which is a bit of a pain to get to but it does belongs to the owner so it technically should be well sorted.

The other issue is that it's only 5" shorter then my garage!

Posted

I was faced with a similar situation some years back when I had an old S Class Merc, which was only 7 or 8 inches shorter than the garage I had at the time. Rather than arse about nudging the car in inch by inch every time, what I did was as follows:

Get a couple of mates to push the car in while you steer/brake, and stop the car in a suitable position

Having done so, place a breeze block on the garage floor in front of one of the front wheels, tight against the car's front tyre

Reverse the car out.

Mark the position of the breeze block, then mix up a drop of mortar and stick the block to the floor

Therefore, if you're being sensible, drive the car in slowly and when you touch the block you're in the right place.

I went a bit further and painted the block with yellow road paint, so I didn't trip over it while doing othe things in the garage. Whne I traded the Merc for the MR2 I just used a lump hammer and bolster to remove the block from the floor.

Posted

Trig.....FFS get a grip and grab that Vulva.......it fits your spec.......and it is 5" SHORTER than your garage. And that is a lot.......after all how long have you been telling your missus that 5" is plenty??

Posted

That Volvo is stunning, let me know if you want someone to cast an eye over it as Plumstead's not far from me.

Missed chances to own one!:lol::lol: That's lovely that is.

And one way to swing the deal with Mrs Trigger...Just tell her about the huuuuuuuuuuge boot for all her shopping :P

*Also handy for camping trips to car shows

I know of a one owner from new Matra-Rancho for sale. An old couple downsizing house and no room for it any more. Supposed to be really nice example.

£3000 they're asking.

Oh yes! Sorry Volvo, but Boobydoo has offered the chance of EPIC WIN!

Posted

I must say that does sound very interesting!, Sadly i haven't got £3000, I'm pushing it slightly with £2500!

The trouble is I don't really know what i want, That Volvo keeps getting me thinking, I'm considered it's too big for the garage and whether it's going to be a bit boring, Angrydicky has bent me some photos of his dad's Victor which is stunning, a proper show car and it would left plenty of change in the kitty but It's not 100% what I'm after, something fun to use with a nippy engine capable of doing 100 miles say without it feeling like 1000.

I might be tempted by anything made up to 1983 and i still keep coming back to Fords! God I'm too fussy!
