the jaguar xk150 that made it on to the banger track

I thought the car had a vin plate when the lad raced it and when he had finished racing it, there was a buyer that wanted the vin to fit to a race xk to homologate it for a series or something

so the car isnt being sold by the lad but by the person that wanted the vin?

Dunno if it adds perspective but from my days in the resto trade I thought I recognised the sellers name.

Denis Welch is a Healy specialist I think so far from a bang racer I would assume.....

Hmm, they've lowered the starting bid to a still stunningly expensive £4500.

Bangerfan, can't you find another forum to annoy with this shit? Practical Classics forum is always good for taking the bait if you're just out to annoy people.

Why is it that some on here are only happy when they are trying to get others to Foxtrot Oscar somewhere else, variety is the spice of life and makes for a more interesting environment, you can't beat a bit of batter and healthy debate, wind up merchants abound online so if you don't like what you read, don't read it.

OK, so some on here don't like Banger Racing but people don't complain when they get the chance to buy bits taken off a "soon to be raced" car at sensible money.

I used to race and always made sure I sold on a much as I could to offset the ever increasing cost of the hobby, one of my closest friends who has been a very active racer for over 15 years always knows who to ring within the classic car world to offload all the trim etc that would otherewise get binned and YES he is a car enthusiast who regularly attends shows, local meets etc in one of his classic Fords and I do admire him for driving at speed in rust buckets held togther by the floor/door plates and roll cage and giving a lump of scrap a proper funeral.

Unless you own the vehicle you have no right to dictate what happens to it, once money has changed hands, and for some being offered more than scrap value makes all the difference, it's up to the new owner to decide it's fate.

Yes there are one or two within the racing fraternity who may not be the most honest of folks but there again show me any sport that is 100% legit, International Cricket, Premier League match fixing...............

Or maybe you just don't get the tongue in cheek humour of Yorkshiremen........................................... :o

Regardless of who owns the vehicle, I'll complain about the destruction of saveable classics (yes, I know that quite a lot are like this Jag and fooked in the first place, but not all...), maintain that it's more than 1 or 2 that steal motors to race (though I accept it isn't a majority - would be nice if the authorities at least made some effort to crack down on it though) and I'll also whinge freely about people who take nice, standard Mk2 Escorts and turn them into yet another rally drift slag. Sorry.

Bangerfan only seems to post about banger racing. AS is about as far from banger racing as you can get.

It's like going on a forum for "Friends of the Fox" and posting pics of dead foxes.

It seems to me to be geared entirely toward getting a 'rise' from the natives as it's pretty bloody obvious that no-one in their right mind would pay £8k for a bangered XK150, and most of Autoshite is to do with unpopular cars for £1500 at most. That XK150 is fucked. It's been ragged mercilessly and crashed into by banger racers, it's been bodged and fucked about with to get it 'race worthy' and with the possible exception of the engine, box and diff - all of which are more likely than not, fucked - and a couple of bits of glass it's not worth shit. We can all see that. The fact that it no longer has any ID means that rebuilding it would be a futile exercise even if someone was certifiable enough to bid anywhere near the revised asking price.

So, at most, it's a candidate for the "Ebay bargains" thread, not a fresh thread just to get people's backs up. Which is why I stand by my earlier comments.

If bangerfan would like to chat about his Metro, post pics of unbangered shite local to him or just join in the friendly, AS banter then fair play, but all I'm seeing is posts about cars that banger racers have fucked that appear to be at the very least provocative and designed to piss us off.

I don't like to see anyone booted from here other than spammers and the odd idiot like that EccentricRichard tosser, and I don't have anything against banger racers who just get rid of common old tat at the end of its life, but bangering that XK was obviously a 'prestige' attempt by a fucking moron who wants to gain points at some Pre-68 meet full of, to quote Len H, "grunting mongs".

Bangerfan, please desist from creating banger racing related threads. They achieve nothing other than to divide and upset this forum. Any other shite related posts are welcome...

Thank you.

What's going on here? Last time this knobhead tried to make trouble it backfired, and he was more than a little 'pwned' as the subject hilariously diverted off onto classic fridge loving.

Anyway, the whole idea of putting your money where your mouth is and saving cars from racers is more than a little flawed, that sickening 'buy it or I race it' blackmail, who would want to buy a car from these people anyway, weigh them in and forget them.

Bangering that XK was a remarkable act of stupidity, but only a small part of the national trend of destroying anything good.

Exactly, when someone spends nearly £1,000 on a rare, nice condition, low mileage, newly MOT'd fairly early Maxi which had just been returned to the road after several years in storage to quite frankly ruin it then wreck it when they can spend £200 on a tatty example, that is when I object to it. What chance have we got?!! Some people have more money than sense and to me it is legalised vandalism. I also object to interesting old buildings being demolished for similar reasons.

I realise it is probably only a minority but if banger racers only raced the "fit for spares only cars" then I would not object at all, but they seemingly don't and all they seem to be doing is pushing the price of "classics" up so as to be out the reach of a lot of people. Especially as I have recently seen a shoddy Austin Westminster being advertised on ebay for over £1000 as "we all know what they were going for before the Arlington meet"!!

Personally the argument that they are doing us a favour by making our cars rarer and more valuable is a totally vacuous argument. I would rather see plenty of classics on the road rather than just a few saved for posterity. I imagine most car enthusiasts would hold the same view, although I have met the odd one or two who probably would be that selfish.

Anyway I think some healthy debate is not a problem and I would not want to see people "hounded" from the site, but I am sorry I do question "Bangerfans" motives to be honest!!

Exactly.

The authorities protect interesting old buildings, but there is absolutely no incentive to preserve interesting old vehicles. These banger racing philistines are only encouraged.

I think, maybe, we have to look at this from another angle. Its always been my belief that people in the medical profession/Funeral directors per se, do become desensitized to death and dont have the same reverence for human life as most humans. Its only natural, the average Hospital sees death every day, both of the old and of the Young.Funeral Directors handle "carcasses" all day long. Eventually, if you are surrounded by it on a daily basis, you are going to feel less emotionally than you or me and you you learn to become emotionally detatched from your job. It doesnt mean that you dont care, it just means that, in order to function and get through the day, you HAVE to have a more circumspect attitude to life because caring too much will destroy you.

Banger racers/enthusiasts? They are no different to people working in the aforementioned professions. Many work in scrap yards, car breakers or have grown up within the hobby. Is anybody that suprised that, to them that XK150 is just a lump of old, albeit to them, valueble lump of metal?

Sure, the poster is doing it on purpose, trying to bait people but he will never understand why we are so perplexed by his and his fellow enthusiasts love of smashing up old, rare and much cherished cars, how can they possibly understand when years of ripping the crap out of them has metaphorically labotomised them and removed all sense, love and feeling for them.

Pity them for they do not know what they do, or summat.

As for the idea of selling spares of old cars which they are banger racing the only reason they do that is to help themselves out with the cost of their hobby, they are not doing anyone any favours. .

Damned if you do damned if you don't :?
