Should I buy a Nissan Pulsar GTR-I?

Hello my name is Nathan & I live in Australia but I spent most of my life in the UK

Should I buy a Nissan Pulsar GTR-I I have found one for sale but I don't have pictures because it is a local car and I can't find it on the internet.

The Pulsar GTR-I might seem chavy or roadman-esq but I think they're nice little pocket rockets, the GTR-I came with a SR20DET if you don't know what that stands for (you probably do) it stands for

SR - Engine code name

20 - 2L displacement

D - Dual Overhead Camshaft

E - Electronic Fuel Injection

T - Turbo

This car was sold as a Nissan Sunny GTR-I in Europe but many people imported the Pulsar name badge variants into the UK.

I've approved this post, hi there, I suggest typing more words, maybe introducing yourself a bit, telling us what you know about the car if anything, so on and so forth and whatnot.

Hi from derby. Furnish us a little more info and the collective fountain of knowledge here will guide!

If it needs a clutch avoid like the plague. We had a customer with one back when they were fairly new. The clutch went so we said it can't be that bad and started to do it. With 2 of us on it for a full day we still hadn't got the box out. The guy I was working with at the time rang Nissan motorsport as they were still rallying them. The bloke said he could do them in a puddle in under an hour, but that was the rally version where they binned all the extra brackets round the manifold and left the one hidden bolt out that was between the gearbox and transfer box. We got there in the end but it was a nightmare. The bloody thing got nicked a few months later and ended up as a Cat C and went off for salvage

i had one many years ago, grey import when i couldnt find a decent Subaru

It had sat around in the dealers for a while as not as popular as an Impreza  during final haggling he offered to throw a warranty in free, boy how pleased he did, i had a starter motor problem and it ended up at a Nissan main dealers.. their  scheduled time for a replacement was about 11 hrs  everything either removed or out, i know they didnt get it done in that time either..

Would i have another   ...yep...but only in stock condition,

Used to see these hooning around Christchurch in NZ when I lived there. So it's a yes from me!

What part of Aussie are you in Nathan?

..... Now, son!

You do not get that level of 'exactly where do we stand on fixing these!'... Even on a Model/Fanboi Forum ;)

Best of luck....

We EXPECT updates/suicide notes... lol

North of New South Wales like a few hours away from QLD.

I used to see loads of these when going for a drool at Warrenders in Preston, usually he brought over a load of used ones which were tricked up to the hilt by Jap yoofs, I'd be sticking to a stock one too

Yes, and then roffle it on here for a pittance.

A guy round the corner had one when I was a kid, well the Sunny version. Looked brilliant, I think that's the only one I've ever seen in the flesh.

There was one recently on the 'eBay chancers' section...

There'd be some collection thread.

Yes. I remember seeing a black one that was standard aside from some 15" Borbet Ts that looked wonderful:

In a short answer yes they are great little cars, used to see them all the time back in the day, there used to be a mechanic local to me who specialised in them He usually had around 5 in for repair/modifications at 1 time and had a few himself, a great alternative to a cosworth

Point of order - I believe it's GTI-R.

They rot horribly well, so if you can find a sound one to bring over, you should definitely make it so. Not exactly prime Autoshite fodder (that'd be a red Sunny N14 saloon with a miserable engine), but nice motors.

How cheap is it?

I’ve an N14 DET ECU, engine loom and injector resistor pack somewhere for one of these.

I'd say yes if it's pretty well stock and reasonably unmolested as indicated above, I'd heard they could be a bit of a bitch to work on and some certain (unique to the model) spares were a bit hard to find as it was essentially a JDM car at heart.

The engine is the same one used in the 200SX and is one of the strongest and most tuneable engines to come out of Japan. The 'Drift' (innit) brigade tune the shit out of them and then proceed to beat them like it owes them money and they seldom get destroyed.

It is around 6,000 if I can't afford it I have some other things I plan on buying.

If that's AU$6000 that's cheap (£3500). If it's £6000 it's about right.

IIRC the N14 version has a few improvements due to it’s rally purpose (valve gear train springs to mind) but in FWD configuration it’s different enough for the 200sx crowd to not bother with them.

I think the ultimate version was the SR20VET which went in JDM X-Trails and made about 270bhp? Ir hybrid versions using the head off the Pulsar VR with it’s screaming 1.6 and highly developed cylinder head.

AUD but it has some issues I think, If I see it again I will ask the owner.

Those lunatic X-Trails are properly insane. I'd love one.
