pauldoubleyou Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 thought it would be funny, loud and annoying to the neighbours to put an AUQ out of a VRS into a stripped out lupo shell. engine is about to go in so thought i would share some pictures. Shite or not shite im not so sure. So far the dash has gone back in now i have put the diesel pedal box in (for the hydraulic clutch) and installed the FBW accellerator pedal. Just need to remount the fusebox as i had to pull the original plastic box it was in due to the larger accellerator pedal. Coprolalia, Tamworthbay, Jerzy Woking and 31 others 34
andy18s Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 How are you doing the electrics?Swapping the loom over or getting a "stand alone" mini loom?
pauldoubleyou Posted August 17, 2017 Author Posted August 17, 2017 The looms, being VW, arent that dissimilar. The plan is to depin the original Lupo ECU plug and install the VRS ECU plug making sure all the correct wires go in the right places. Unplug the Lupo engine side loom from the plug, install the VRS one, boom. Only really needs a few things wiring up to start it and work one wire at a time from there. Im unlucky in that actually as because i have the shittiest possible Lupo as a base car the ECU plugs dont match. Some do and a quick depin - repin can have you done and dusted. Lastly map out the immobiliser, secondary air systems and sensors and airbags.
Parky Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Well I approve, putting big engines in little cars is a winning strategy as far as I am concerned. I assume/hope you are incorporating some braking upgrades! Minimad5 1
nacho man Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 180bhp should be rapid in a stripped shell! You going to get it mapped at all? The 1.8T is a great engine really aint it, a bit characterless, but can reliably get the arse kicked out of them all day long. Its just the strainer that can block on neglected cars.
Lacquer Peel Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Steel wheels, mismatched hubcaps and an 'SDI' badge please. loserone, CGSB, HarmonicCheeseburger and 16 others 19
fordperv Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 They are rapid little things with a 20v in, an aquantaince used to have one it went like a scalded rat it caught many people out
dougiefourspeed Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 This is all good stuff. I've had half an idea in my head to drop a 20vT into a 6N Polo 'cause I've always liked the shape of them. But that's a job for another day.
SherpaMog Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Respect to the skills, yo! Let me know if you sell in the future please please. pauldoubleyou 1
sporty-shite Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 You had me up until "stripped out" It needs full standard trim, including giffer tartan blanket on parcel shelf, steelie and National Trust sticker. Still would, though. Good work. Hendry, Lacquer Peel, dougiefourspeed and 3 others 6

Sigmund Fraud Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Nice work, Lupos with massive engines are excellent ! The Autoshite way would be to keep it looking like a completely stock 1.0E, "old age pensioner" or "teenage girl" paraphernalia are optional. Nicola H and Lacquer Peel 2

pauldoubleyou Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 Just checked in on this and didnt expect so many replies. The stripped out option is purely to get the wieght down to make it more horrible. Ill be putting on a remap anyway in order to map out a few sensors so im hoping to get about 225bhp. Add that to the weight of nearly fuck all and it comes up with a lovely power to weight ratio. SDi badge and steel wheels will be going on. Maybe even one of those family decals. Ideally id like to keep it as stock as possible but im going to have to put some kind of bonnet raisers or venting on it as the turbo will be so close to the bulkhead. Oh and its all done in a garage, not a post or competent mechanic in sight. dome, Ghosty, CreepingJesus and 5 others 8
fordperv Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 When the bonnets raised, get ready for the people as you pull up to tell you your bonnets open
unclecalzone Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 used to be one of these around the area I live, it was very quick little car indeed. Also had a good reg on it - "S3 upo"
spartacus Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I like this, keep it updated please. I'll be in the queue of and when you come to sell. pauldoubleyou 1
Vince70 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 I wish I had your mechanical skills that looks an amazing I even like the colour.I can't work out why VW never raided the parts bin and built one themselves and called it a Lupo R as I'm sure it would of been the ultimate hot hatch that would of sold by the tens of thousands with no weight and plenty of go with cheap tried and tested components it would have been a winner. Hendry 1
pauldoubleyou Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 Tbh the car itself is like a tin can but definitely better put together than say, French cars of similar age and size. Pics from today. Finally got the correct engine mount bolts from the main dealer, pedal box fully in, heat shielding and clutch pipe in, dash and interior back in. Lots done! pauldoubleyou Posted August 18, 2017 Author Posted August 18, 2017 Forgot this but also managed to fuck the airbag ring. Looks like I'll be rolling sans airbags. One thing I want to point out is that when I stripped this I have a bit of an OCD for keeping everything. I mean everything, screws, washers, the lot. And I also have boxes of them from breaking cars or removing bits from the last ten years. What this means is most jobs can be done for free and parts are readily available. vaughant Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 That will be mental. I have the Ibiza cupra version (polo 6n chassis) and even standard that flies. Looks like you're doing a grand job mate.

pauldoubleyou Posted August 19, 2017 Author Posted August 19, 2017 Looking at measurements it looks like I'm going have to notch the chassis too. Might do it both sides just for that additional wiggle room, first things first I still need to find a bloody engine crane as I have no idea who has mine and nobody is owning up to it grr Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
inconsistant Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Excellent! I'm imagining the teenage girl 'my first car' version of Farmtruck.
Pillock Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Here's three Lupos with 1700bhp between them. Two 20VTs, one Diesel
Lacquer Peel Posted August 20, 2017 Posted August 20, 2017 Interesting that the diesel is the quickest
