Definitely some odd ones in there, the Hyundai i10 only came out in 2008!  Must have been a typo.  Looks like it claimed the last Penza and Malaga.

Some other pretty new stuff is on the list, BMW X3, Nissan Qashqai (7 of them!)

 

Who knows what possessed people to scrappage cars that must have been worth more than £2k at the time.

They must be typos, probably the car the scrapper was traded against, it was only for pre-1999 cars.

Let's hope that it doesn't return. At a recent classic auction, A Mazda RX7, a 1969 Morris Minor 1000, and Mercedes in 320TE, 300CE. 280 SLC and 500SEL flavours, all with decent MOTs, failed to break the £2000 barrier so in theory could all be prime scrappage fodder

Exactly what I was thinking! And the 2 door Jag! You must be a Grade A cockwand to scrappage stuff like that. Whats the matter with people!? I mean I can sort of understand a totally nackered 90's euro blob thats just about on its last legs but to do it to a car thats obviously a classic and a rare one at that is just utterly stupid.

Even on the nackered 90's stuff I still get pissed off that tax payers money was being wasted on this scheme! I dont go to work to pay tax for that!

 

The little that makes up for it though is that the inbred dicks that did do it are probably now saddled with a shit load of personnal debt on the piece of shit car they bought new!

I do seem to recall reading somewhere that not all the cars that have been photographed stored at the airfields are scrappage cars, I believe a lot of them are ex-MOD or other types of disposals.  Some of them might have only been there temporarily.  Still, some of those do look far too good for scrap.  You'd have to assume that a good proportion of the tidy-looking ones were knackered mechanically/electrically or suffering from galloping rot underneath.

The '3.0 CSL'; it looks like a regular 3.0 CS which is sad enough, but it does look a bit iffy and man those things can rot.

Given that the Jaguar Coupe has 'no keys' written on the screen it looks like a straightforward disposal of an abandoned vehicle.

 

That and the BMW are the only surprises, everything else in the pics would easily be worth less than £2k.

Regardless of the vehicles involved, if indeed they are the vehicles involved, I am totally with Dan of Capri.   This was a particularly fuckwitted piece of Govern-mentalism and much as I keep saying I am not looking at this thread again, God blimey here I am again.   Its like being told by Mrs Rocker not to look at the telly because it brings on one of my "turns" - I still end up red-faced and pointing angrily at a screen.   There was a particularly loathsome little car-sales individual in our town whose gurning grimace leered out from the evening newspaper on a regular basis pushing this scheme for all it was worth just so he could flog a few more Killed in Actions or whatever Ko-rean Krap it was.  I hope he gets haunted to eternity by a wailing Renault Campus or Sierra Laser.....

Maybe so, but I don't think the 'sellers' really got £2k worth of discount on their new motors. Then there's the rip off to the tax payer.

The scheme was revenue neutral for the govt as the VAT on the new vehicles sold balanced out the costs. Or so they claimed at the time.

 

Going on and on about it 5 years after the fact is just boring. To all those who are still bovvered, make a mental note never to vote Labour again and try and forget about it.

 

On a more positive note, celebrate and cherish all the shite that survived, or the interesting and desirable cars that have moved into shite territory since 2009, such as the Vauxhall Signum.

this was the 14K mile Volvo. I remember seeing it in U Pull it in Inverkeithing at the time. It really was a brand new car. Full history too, serviced on time regardless of miles right to the end. Same yard the Horizon later died in.

 

 

 

 

 

In fairness to U Pull It they offered the rights to strip the full car and take everything bar the shell for £125. Hopefully someone did.
