Modern banger racing

To be fair, the only genuine Mini parts seem to be the mechanical bits at the front including the suspension and subframe and the roof panel, the rest consists of a spaceframe chassis with fibreglass panels and a fiesta rear axle or something.

Patience.  It will happen.  Everything gets raced eventually...

rollers are a bit old hat now , must have been over 100 raced over last 15 year or so .

the ferrari that keith greenwood raced was found under a pile of rubbish at a scrapyard , was honda powered when it hit the track ,

Didn't do much the day it raced , front suspension collapsed after a couple of hits first race , they tried to sort it but it never made it back on track

Folk have predicted that banger racing will die out for decades, e.g, when all the Austin A60's have gone, then when all the Cortinas, Granadas and Capris have gone, then Bluebirds e.t.c.  It will carry on in one form or another for aslong as there are cars ending their lives and heading to the scrapyard, the only way it will totally disappear is if it gets banned over health and safety, the track insurance gets too expensive or keeping old cars in bits at home is made illegal over environmental issues or something.

I was talking about bangering mk3 mondys racing with my m.o.t tester (he races) as I wondered how they got around the front inlet surviving full frontal attacks and he was onabout they retro fitted mk2 stuff into them

No matter what they race, nothing, absolutely nothing, makes a more picturesque wreck, than a Granada MKII.

They race predominantly Mondeos at Belle Vue, and it's boring and just doesn't look right.

OK, BV is a 'challenging' (= shitty) track, but a hoard of Mondeos nudging each other just doesn't cut it, no

matter where. Seen them at Buxton, too, and it was the same.

Hence I'm off to the Hednesford pre-85 Unlimited next Sunday. Will be my first real banger meet in years

(apart from the half arsed ones you see thrown in as a support formula at Stockcar events), and I expect a

spectacle!

Who wants to join me?

Would be a shiter's dream if it was unmolested and beige:

This ran its original straight six including fuel injection:

Several Coleman-Milnes were raced today, this is one of them:

The Humber Pullman was rougher than a bear's arse, but they had extensively armoured it with boiler plate on the floor further to the front.

They had also grafted a complete Granada front axle underneath, and the front portion of the frame was replaced with rectangular tubing, because the original frame rails had rotted away.

They had difficulties to find something solid enough to attach a chain to, to pull it onto the transporter after the race.

There was about half an inch of wob underneath the yellow paint. It looked ace from 50 yards away, though.

Was it a Pullman? Wikipedia says there's only 8 left (now 7).

I thought it was the slightly more common Super Snipe, although they look almost identical.

Yes, it is a Pullman, and they said it's one of eight.

Make no mistake though, this one was beyond even the faintest trace of hope, but yielded a few useful spares for the other seven.

They want to knock the panels out a bit, add another 20 kilos of fibreglass and Isopon, and bring it to Brum next weekend.

The announcer said it was one of five ("soon four"), twice.
