The photo of the light house is taken in a car park high upon the Barnoon hill in St. Ives Cornwall over looking Godrieve lighthouse and the one 'Random car park is in St Ives too, that car park is now where their Leisure centre is and also a carpark for coaches. Ive been going to those car parks for the last 23 years and they still look the same.

I didn't think it was North Wales, but the wife did so I thought I'd mention it. Looked like the car park was far too high up to be on Anglesey which is fairly flat.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, I'm glad you like the pics, they were a wonderful and unexpected find. Thanks also for putting names to the locations :D

These ones are the slides, the developed photos I'll have a go at this weeke if I get chance.

Wonderful pics, mate. I don't have a single photo from my childhood so it's nice too look at other folks' ones.

I'm intrigued by this pic. Whoever took it wasn't interested in the Avenger or washing line I'm sure, so I reckon it must have been the little black boy playing which I guess might have been an unusual sight for some in the 1960s?

Yes, to be honest you're probably right and particularly in our home area at that time. Grandad was always a fairly keen amateur photographer and a lot of the non-car related photos have what you might call everyday life subjects in them and are fairly candid like this one. They span a period from about 1968 to 1986 and then there are some from Hull in the mid 90s which whilst relatively recent, are ironically interesting now because of the cars in them being now much more uncommon.

Brilliant pix - the CX appears to have a vinyl roof and so could likely have been a pretty expensive 'Prestige' version.

Great Sir! - thanks for sharing

Brilliant stuff!... I have made a post with the Hunter (I can't tell if its a Hunter MKI or a Minx)!

Just trying out my new scanner so here's a taster of some of the other pics:

This is my uncle John on a float for the Beverly carnival in 1975. He worked part time at the filling station next to his main workplace and this is their float:

One of my mum's cousins looking very dapper sometime in the mid-60s. That's grandad's Minor in the background which was replaced by the Mk1 Cortina:

scan0002.jpg

This one is intriguing. It's dated 1965 on the back and shows my great uncle Harold with someone's offspring, but check out the reg number on the Mini!!! I don't really know the story behind it but I suspect it belonged to another of my mum's cousins, Kaye. She would have been about 18 at the time and this could have been her car:

More to come :D

117 K doesnt exist on a car any more (if indeed it ever did)

Im trying to make out if there is someone in the drivers seat of that mini.

Here's another batch of scanned photos for your perusal.

First up is an early 1100 with local East Riding number. My grandad was involved in the caravan industry throughout the 1960s and 70s and helped set up a couple of local firms. This is no doubt a new product from one of them:

Some more pics of the '66 Cortina:

I love this pic. Grandma with their J-reg Cortina XL. The pic says Caister 1973. I can vaguely remember this car as it was replaced by a T-reg Cavalier in about 1979/80 when I would have been 4 or 5 years old:

scan0012.jpg

This is the same camp site that year with CF, FD Victor, Mk10 jag and Midget visible:

scan0014.jpg

Isle of Man 1974. This is a deceiving pic as it looks older on first glance due to the Mk2 Zephyr which would already be more than 15 years old at the time:

scan0010.jpg

This next run of pics are from the Beverley carnival in 1975 and 76. First up is a BMC JU minibus:

scan0013.jpg

Locally registered Mk1 Transit Luton. Coincidentally the Ford dealer, Crystal is just out of shot on the left here!

scan0015.jpg

I think this is a Commer. Nigel Rice are one of the more prominent hauliers in this area, still based in Beverley. Not sure how long they've been on the go but I imagine this is one of their earliest lorries:

scan0020.jpg

Another well-known Beverley haulier, Watts Bros. now sadly no longer with us. Their lorries were always this gery and maroon livery and up to a certain point the boxvans and lutons always had a map of the East Riding painted on the rear (have a look at the Corgi Bedfor O-series model)

scan0016.jpg

scan0001-1.jpg

Scammell Crusader, I love these lorries. I always remember the Matchbox Superkings one I had as a kid with low loader and bulldozer!

scan0002-1.jpg

I hope this lorry didn't have to brake hard or tghese guys would have gone flying! Brand new Ford D-series of Stepney, a local building contractor. Grandad was a joiner for this company later on in the 80s until he retired:

scan0019.jpg

This shot from Lancaster in 1984 with 2CV, Maestro, Escort, Capri and Polo - all pretty newish cars at the time. But oooh, Renault 20 on the right there!

scan0011.jpg

Just a couple of random street scenes from Hull in the mid-90s, but these cars are now fast disappearing from our roads:

scan0018.jpg

scan0017.jpg

Hope you like them, I will try and see if I can find some more

Pretty sure the one in Lancaster is taken outside the Castle - until a few months back a fully working Cat B prison.

Great photos Mash thanks for posting them, you were lucky to find them covering such a wide range of subjects; like most people I suspect, our old ones just show various family members on beaches :(

That Mini might be 117 KH (that would have been a Hull number)

Did your grandad ever work for Willerby Caravans? They were/still are based in Hull and seemed to have cornered the market in static caravans these days; ours is one for a start :)

Posted

If they do a 'thread of the year' on here come Dec 31st you'll have pissed it.

Brilliant stuff, hope to God you can find more. For those of us who were about in those eras it's a really good reminder of those days gone by.

Top work, that man!

The Nigel Rice lorry is a Bedford TK, like the one below it. The Renault 20 in Lancaster is actually a 30 (note the quad headlights, which the 20 never had). Lovely green on it! :D

Posted

Ah, you're right it is a TK, I've just taken a closer look at it! Ta.

Marvellous! Amused by the Peters & Lee and Wrestling ad's on the tram - very 'of its time'.

Great pics Mash. Love the 'Hull Lions....Bridge The World' with a drawing of one the Humber Bridge towers. It would be being built at this time. When opened in 1981 it would be the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Although the Nigel Rice Commer is a Bedford, Nigel Rice currently (TBH I haven't seen any for a while....) run Renaults, so descendants of Commers maybe...

And 'Pompei' beat me to it with 'The Land of Green Ginger'. Tipo is Hull registered (RH) so probably came from Jordans.

Great work. :D

Bloody hell, our house had that exact floral wallpaper when we first moved in! Old couple living here before us clearly didn't decorate very often!
