Thanks. Going to be away a few days but I'll get back to you next week.

EDIT - Rad has at least arrived. Battery next on the wish list, then rear seatbelts and THEN MOT! I accept it may not pass... Tailgate is openable, sort of. Won't stay open but I'm going to say that's good enough for now until I can get a new tailgate.

Closer inspection reveals that the tailgate is busted, sorry dude :(

There is also a few BXs laid up on a road near Lincoln, I may be able to find out more details when I remember for certain where it is.

Do you mean Bullwinkles Garage? It's near Horncastle, not far from Lincoln. They have a field that you can just about see from the road, used to be full of BXs but now seems to have more Xantias. I know DW said Deux Chevaux Lincs but it sounds more like Bullwinkles to me..

Posted

Yeah thats right, there are only 3 bxs left at bullwinkles now, the red estate, an engineless txd and a shit rotten 1.4

Oh and there is a n/a diesel in a new shell in the back workshop that never got finished, and prolly never will.

Not to worry Mr Geezer. I shall continue my search a little closer to home. Hope to get the new rad fitted this week - maybe even today. Though I don't think I've got any anti-freeze knocking about. And I still need a battery (local scrappy = FAIL). And rear seat belts. And lots of luck.

Sob, this is causing me grief! Sob, I miss the Mk1 BX

Sorry hadn't looked at the BX pix for yonks!

In the early 90's I had a gold Mk1 BX 19 GT, Had it for a couple of years then replaced it with a Sierra XR 4 i

How I wish I still had both of them

Have a video of an utterly shambolic BX. Still a lot to do!

Is the rot in the A pillar very bad?

Posted

It's certainly not pleasant. A common enough spot for them and another reason for the windscreen to come out at some point.

Posted

Right. I've replaced the broken door mirror and sort-of got the rear seatbelts working and have replaced a knackered buckle. The reels are still a bit reluctant to sometimes dispense the seatbelt, but they are retracting properly now. Got to the stage that I'm going to lob it in for a test and we'll see what it fails on. I do seem to have a minor oil leak, LHM leak and coolant leak as well as an exhaust leak - the latter I'm going to ask them to sort out because it'll be much easier on a ramp.

Wish me luck! I think the ol' crate might need it...

I'm still under no illusion that this'll be the end of it. This is still Stage 1 of the resurrection plan. There's still an awful lot to do!

Posted

Good luck! Where's the LHM leaking from, hopefully it's something easy rather than the octopus?

Posted
'Hello, is that the RAC? My Octopus is leaking'

I think there's a cream for that

Good luck DW!

This is a great thread. It's working out to be a template for me to follow with that Renault 25 that's decaying in the drive. I feel guilty every time I look at it... you're giving me the inspiration to start working on the old girl :)

MOT passed! However, fate on one hand has been kind, and has dished up a load of jobs on the other. The water pump is leaking, so replacing that and the timing belt has become a new priority. Also, the accumulator sphere seems as flat as a witch's tit. My plans for a heroic drive to the Stratford CCC rally on Sunday have been dealt a frustrating blow.

It's really pleasant to drive though, with the exception of a clunk from the front end suggesting worn suspension arm bushes - not that any play showed up during the test. Not much point changing the arm/bushes while the engine is leaking oil over it though, so the general consensus is that there's still an awful lot to do!

Still, road legality is a nice bonus.

Posted

Well done mate... Didn't think you'd sort it so quickly!

Posted

Well, I knew it couldn't be far from an MOT test, even when I went to see it. Yes, it looks disgraceful, yes there is rust in a few places but none of them are structural places. They'll still be done though!

Posted

Hey, that's great news. Congrat's Ian, you've done bloody well with that, SRSLY impressed. Most of the BX gang going on Sunday I take it?

Posted

Thanks Billy. Think there will be a few BXers around over the weekend.

I do hasten to point out that an MOT pass is a mere first step on the restoration of this thing! I'm trying not to think of the entire To Do list as it's bloody scary how much still needs doing.

I am very impressed that its got the MOT so quick. Putting the rest of us to shame.

It might be battered, old fashioned, looks like shit and probably smells a bit funny but it has get a reasonably clean bill of health at its annual check up and does what it is meant to. The exact criteria I use when trying to pick up women.

seriously impressed you got that heap of **** through an MoT - all joking apart, congrats, it's always a good feeling.

So was it £54 for the MoT and £300 bribe to the tester?

Posted

Jesus! Well done Ian. Good luck with the ongoing resto work :D

Mark.

Well done that man! As M. Imp says, putting us all to shame!

:D:D:D:D

Just goes to show that a car can look like it has been chewed up and spat out, yet it can remain perfectly legal and safe. Looking forward to following the car's progress :)

Congrats! I'm enjoying this thread a lot, esp for the dashboard of win and the little indicators. However, surely this:

...is not the autoshite way? Unless the "to do list" only involves structural gaffer tape, chicken wire, newspaper and a paint roller?

So was it £54 for the MoT and a new girlfriend for the tester?
