Anyone remember the 1992 Escort Harrier? Basically a three door entry level model, 1.3, only available in black, with a grey plastic (not body coloured/sprayed) rear spoiler.

I've not seen one of these in the metal for many years...

My ma won an Escort Dash in a prize draw. K-plate (K86 CAR in fact) but it seems to be scrapped now. Not surprised.

It was a Mk5 Cabrio with a wheezy 1.4 CVH. Cabrio = pretty heavy, 1.4 = pretty gutless. Even my mum couldn't bear it for long, it was nice to have the roof down but it was appaently tedious to drive.

Didn't look too bad though in two-tone blue and silver, they did a red one too which Ford seem to like doing, trotting out metallic red and metallic blue on their specials.

Can't belive no-one has mentioned these yet, surely one of the first special editions?

R9UKE yo're way to young to remember this, but your parents might remember the "Porsche 924 James Bond Submarine Edition". Backstory: A buyer here in Belfast bought a new 924 from the main dealer in 1980/1, and the car was plagued with water ingress, which the dealer tried to fix loads of times, and failed. He'd been on to Porsche, and got no joy. So, being jolly urined off, he parked the car outside the Kings Hall when the Ulster Motor Show was on. He'd painted on it "This car was built in a swimming pool" and "007". The car was the main front page photo in the Belfast Telegraph, NI's biggest newspaper. Porsche were horrified when they discovered it had been on BBC national tv news. The man got a new car very quickly!

How about the Vauxhall 'Club' range from 1987 I think it was? All-white with white hubcaps, jazzy interior trim, graphics on the outside and available on a total of FOUR different models at the same time - that's what a special edition SHOULD be all about!

The following are screenshots from the

of the time:

While there is, believe it or not, a Faecebook page for these cars.

Attn Creeping Jesus... Mk3 Astra Hallstar as promised...

Good man! That's every bit as 'special' as I was hoping for. I can only imagine the poundland wheeltrims have improved matters...

I well remember the VX 'Club' and 'Antibes' spec-eds from that period too; Proper specials, with trim which would become unobtanium in short order; and particularly in the case of the 'Club' was a bastard to clean the stains out of the seats, when it came back in from Motability. Been there, done that, burnt the t-shirt.

Also the Calibra SE of that time, with its' unique paint colour. Caused much headscratching when mixing fresh paint, at one or two bodyshops I dealt with, as it didn't really look unique...

So it wasn't simply Telecom Yellow then?

I'm more than willing to bow to your superior knowledge, but I could swear there was a white one of these kicking about in Stansted for years. I could well be wrong though

Have an Alfasud Valentino: bronze paint, gold wheels, a vinyl roof and a free handbag.

The first SE's were a blue-green, which was more green than blue. Unlike the equivalent colour on ordinary Cali's, Cavs etc., which was more on the blue end of the scale.

The yellow one was SE2 or 3 iirc: there were 7 SE's altogether, a new limited run each year(ish). And it was by far the most conspicuous, so is the most readily remembered one! The colour was neither VX Jamaica Yellow, nor BT Yellow: Given that the issue with the SE1 paint was down to it being one of PPG USA's custom colours, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was PPG's Hot Rod Yellow...

They weren't particularly 'special', but then, there weren't many of each made; so I suppose GME got it about right.

I'm sure there were white Escort Harriers: how about the Escort Mexico Mk4? What a fucking disgrace to a great badge!

Graduate

An ex of mine's young sister ordered one of those new, for when she went off to University.

It was delivered and she noticed one of the special 'Graduate' stickers was upside down! So she rang Peugeot back. They refused to change the car and said they would have to repaint the whole panel. This was a brand new car...

Of course I tried to advise the family to go ballistic and insist, but they were too scared.

Ever heard of a Maestro Park Lane? I nearly bought one once, it was just an E reg Maestro City with 'Park Lane' stickers instead of 'City'.

That's in the vein of the 1986 Mk2 Fiesta Firefly. It was literally a red 1.1 Ghia with an extra sticker on the bootlid. Amazingly, they appear to have repeated the exercise 2 years later (the Ghia's wheeltrims having changed design in the interim but otherwise identical to the '86 version).

As opposed to the mk1 Firefly, which was clearly visually different from the bog spec Popular. As far as I can tell Ford were thinking ten years ahead to save 17-year-olds the bother of buying some rattle cans and a couple of insulation tape rolls from A1 Motor Stores.

I used to see a lot of these Escort Encores about, They came in the same colours as the Mk4 Escort Eclipse did, that peachy red colour and the lovely bermuda blue, I think they were all 1.3 & 1.4's.

I used to own a H reg Fiesta 1.0 that was a dealer special edition but I'm buggered if i can remember what it was called, it had a sunroof and while wheel trims and some strips on the side.

Wasn't the City absolutely shit? Surely Park Lane suggests near Vanden-Plas luxury?? :?

My mum's first car was a 106 Mardi Gras. I don't know what was supposed to be special about it... no rear wiper, no rev counter, not even a cigarette lighter.

Yeah, i do I remember the/a white one too, wasn't it called the Libra Libre or am i getting mixed up with a more exotic marque.

1.6 OHC ?

Edit: There again, looking at the pic, the one i'm thinking of was a 70's model.

Trigger was you Fiesta a "Swan" from Swan garges in Wickford (an ex-main dealer)?

Can I offer the Panda Alessi?

Peugeot 106 also had the Aztec... stickers all over to trap rot.... I was given a 5 door 1.5 diesel one of these, rotten floors and brake pipes and rumbly wheel bearing. Sorted them, sold it for £550! Still on the road apparently. The mate who bought it sold it on to his mate's Aunt or summat like.

Another one of my mother's cars, this one a K11 Micra Vibe limited edition, metallic paint and fancy cloth seats.

This one died at the hands of my nephew (her grandson) after a late-night hedge excursion which carefully concealed 30 feet of wooden fence posts.

Speedwell Special.... by bramm77, on Flickr

This was on the side of an Uno, but does anyone remember the Uno Breeze? Quite possibly the best looking Uno ever made, and I think it was the only MKI model with body coloured bumpers?

I remember the Uno Breeze, like you say was possibly the best Uno ever. It came in Metalic grey or Metalic Gold if i remember rightly.

Not only colour coded bumpers, mirrors too! full length wheel trims and was fitted with a tilt slide sunroof like a turbo!!

I lusted after one but sadly could never find one, it came with the 1.0 and 1.1 engine and 3 or 5 doors! However it wasn't the only mk1 Uno with colour coded bumpers, anyone remember the Bianco ltd edition?

Anyway here's one i remember well!! my mum used to have one just like it... so here's a link to a pick of one!
