Dolomite Sprint....Auto

I'd sort of forgotten that I actually owned one of these, needless to say it's a shed, there's only 50 or so known to exist so when I was offered another today I was sort of tempted, it's a runner and pretty solid apart from the roof which is crunchy in places under the vinyl....does anyone know if they are worth anything though?

Out of the half dozen Sprints I destroyed back in the late 80s/early 90s the solitary auto example I owned was the hardest to kill.

I wasn't actually after an auto Sprint when I bought it, I'd just bid and won the thing at the local banger auction without bothering to look inside it first

is that the 1875 I used t have with the knackered waterpup?

if so, I got it from Sam Glover who ran it as a project car for PC - it was called JLO after the registration

They're worth a fair chunk less than a manual Sprint, but still probably more than a good 1850. Is it Brown?

The guy wants £300 which constitutes a bargain I reckon, it's a good runner and pretty solid aside from the crunchy roof:

Aye. Has to be value as long as it's still got sills and an actual Sprint motor.

£300 and you want to know if you should buy it? Get up there, snatch their hands off and get it home lad!

I thought you said £3000 on facebook not £300!, Christ get on it man! I really, really want a Sprint one day!.

Posted

Oh you must! Get it home and shoot up some pics. It's got to be worth a cash offer all day long.

Shall I get my "A" frame ready? Wait a minute, it's an auto.. Oops! Can still assist if requried, though!

The engine sounds sweet despite no airbox and starts easily, I'm sure a manual could be shoved in but I'm told the Auto is actually quicker off the mark....in theory!

I quite like the fact that its auto as it makes it rare/quirkier. If you dont fancy it, im sure you`d have no trouble moving it on, where abouts in the country is it ?

If I had space I'd be all over that. In fact, I'm gonna go see if I can find some space.

It probably is, none of that poncing about with clutch control :) To concur with others, 300 sovs for a Sprint is bite their hand off price!

Does the Sprint auto have the same Borg Warner slugmatic as the rest of the Dolly range? If so I'd be surprised if the auto were quicker anywhere than a manual - I had an 1850 auto a few years back and the slushbox completely killed the performance. Having said that, any kind of Sprint in running order for £300 is an absolute bucking fargain - I'm afraid I'm going to have to add another lame "if I had the space..." type comment here.

I have space, I have a trailer, I'll have it. Where is it?

Auto has exactly the same performance as manual.

You can put the LT77 from a TR7 5 speed in easily enough, but why would you want to? Its heavier, less reliable, can't be towed far and the ratios are shite; I have one in my track car and the standard cars are all over it at Coombe, might be OK at Silverstone, but I doubt it!

Same BW as 1850 but the 1850 auto runs a 1:3.27 diff as opposed to the 1:3.45 in the Sprint.

Even if you pay £1000 for a car,and it only lasts a year, thats only £20 a week over a year, and lets face it,what will £20 a week get you ! Plus, you're driving something more special than a off the shelf eurobox which WILL cost a bomb when the electrics throw a tantrum ! To tow a auto, unbolt the propshaft to safely cover distance
