There are twelve Fiat Tempra turbo diesels,however if I type in SW/station wagon or estate nothing appears.This must be wrong as I'm looking at a taxed 'n' tested estate on my drive right now.

As above, it'll be the DVLA's slightly hotch-potch naming system - I would wager most of them are under "Vanden Plas 1500".

Surprisingly, as it was looked on as a classic even while it was still in production and they would be have been lovingly cared for from new, there are only 29 Saab 99 Turbos taxed and another 52 SORNed There are also 4 and 13 'Saab 99 EMS Turbo Combis' left (the later 3-door 99 Turbo?) The fuel injected ones have fared even worse; 7 and 6 for the EMS and only 2 and 1 for the GLE but the greatest surprise is the 900 EMS again only 2 and 1 . Looks as if my set of EMS wheels are going to be a long time finding a home

 

edit: also Mercedes 190 numbers have fallen by 36% in two years I wonder what the equivalent figures for Nigeria are

Look at the MG Bs... there are around 1200 which are SORN'd in Q1 and Q4 and come back out in Q2 and 3. Also their numbers actually increased between 1994 and now.

I don't trust these figures too much, as previously mentioned by Hirst and others, the amount of errors on the DVLA system regarding model names is ridiculous, Apple and Ledbury Maestros are registered as ROVER MAESTRO 1.3 under marque or sometimes something even more ridiculous, and I know of a few mid 80s cars on the system as model unknown, when they are normal cars, and I once saw a MKI Transit with something stupid like 'FORD NON CAR DERIVED VAN'.

Just looking up the older Subaru models, there does appear to be around 70 odd of the 'classic' 1.8 GL/DL models left, I'd love to see one of those again, and the 284 'Brat' pickups seem to survive really well given their hard lives, nigh on 700 remaining apparently. But the real confusing one is 98 Sumos, I know of one lingering around the back of OMG PIKEY MOT station near here, but that's it...

There's a Sumo that rattles around Wythenshawe \ Heald Green. It somehow gets through an MOT every year despite getting more and more decrepit.

It's very very difficult to change model designation on the rare occasions it is possible. I don't know anyone who's managed it without a major battle with the DVLA.

 

They're probably ex-rally cars, most RS1800s ended up in forests for years, then were laid up until they were allowed into classic rallying - which I think happened around 2000-2001. That's when the values skyrocketted. Until then they were £6-8k for a mint Custom, after that, £25-30k...

 

The legendary Ian Harwood retired just after that happened. With a few bob I should think, he dealt exclusively in Mk1s, Mk2s, spares for 'em and tuning bits for 30 years. Deservedly too, bloke lived the bloody things.

155 Legacy Turbo's like the wifes one on the road with 104 SORN'ed so not rare but I suspect as they get ever cheaper they'll get raped for engines or crashed.
