Oooh what a lovely cavalier!!! Great to see it out on the roads instead of sitting around my unit! (oo-er missus)

Been out with the W995 again.

These were taken at the abandoned Carpet World next to Halfords Broadheath, so they're almost [just] relevant.

Hey Mr. B, I think the trick to most doctor-style photography is to really take your time and make sure everything is perfect, such as steering wheel straight, carpets immaculately hoovered etc. etc. Unlike the shot of my old AX GT below:

See if you can spot an AX achilles heel on the left hand side of the interior. I only wanted £225 ono for it at the time though!

The passenger mirror adjuster is gubbed?

Correct! It only had a functioning one on the right because someone kindly broke the original mirror one day...

That is an awesome pic :D8)

Im not sure that Euan and Billy would agree though....

Had a go at this 'interior shots' lark:

And continuing the theme of 'spotting shonk' in one's cockpit, what's iffy about the 480 interior here (and no, you can't have that the glovebox is crooked)?

C4 versus 305. The latter is running like a pig.

Nothing's fallen off?.

Your tax disc holder is on the wrong side, and causing an obstruction to vision, greater than 40mm in swept area Zone "B". I would have you arrested and strip searched.

On the Citroen... edited to add this cos I'm a knobhead.

The panelling on the driver's seat has lost its stitching.

How did you do this one, Billy? It looks like a b&w news print of a colour photo.

Believe it or not, I was mindful of Mr Bo11ox's comments on The Doctor's interior photography skillz when I took this one to try to flog our old Scenic.

Plus side: Light and uncluttered; steering wheel straight; no distracting mess visible through the windows.

Downside: Not a clear shot of the centre of the dash; should have removed the ignition key ring; Driver's footwell mat looks dirty.

Both of the following were taken with an Olympus compact camera in low light with the flash turned off. I like the effect you get from the long exposure making the sidelights glow.

As I don't have a tripod I rested the camera on my garden wall here:

And on the end of some railings here: I like the way this has forced an unusual composition.

Another of my fave old photos. This one is also from an Olympus compact, but 35mm rather than digital.

I took it on the spur of the moment from my bedroom window. I like the grainy quality that the road and pavement seem to have.

Good stuff. I like the one with the truck on it, you can almost feel the wet road. Also it looks the (almost) perfect place for a night scene with that neon light shining and a dark coloured old car where the truck is.

Anyone got any tips for night time photography by the way please?

Tripod required, and if you're taking photographs in a heavily light polluted area experiment with the white balance; you can crank the sodium glow out of your photos.

The Len speaketh the truth. Generally, you need a longer shutter speed, but most cameras will do that automatically. Some have a special low-light mode, but it depends on the camera as to where this mode hides.

If you're resting the camera on the floor or a wall, you need to make sure the camera doesn't wobble as you take the photo. Either wedge stuff under it to make it stable, or use the self-timer, so it'll take the shot when you're not touching the camera.

What could work there is light painting the car with a torch.

That's an idea. Didn't have one to hand at the time (this was a couple of years ago, around the back of a dingy rock pub in the East Midlands - don't ask). Something I'll have to try at some point.

Happy days, partial result with my first night/eventide foray...

And this which I'm pretty happy with as I'd set out to attempt light trails...

nighttimepictures023.jpg

The only thing I don't know is why some pictures came out quite light and others dark. It's possibly because one side of the bridge was lighter than the other but I had been arsing about with things on the camera and didn't note which each setting was before I took pictures. I'd love to do a really dark picture in a city with light trails and neons etc in the background. I'd struggled to adjust the shutter speed even after I found the option hence one picture in particular was better than the others.

Edit: just been arsing about on Gimp and created this...

The difference is your camera trying to compensate Billy. Most cameras have a halfway point on the button that meters the picture to work out light levels. Point it at a light point (ie car headlamps or the horizon) and it'll think it's a bright pic, and take a darker shot. Point it at black tarmac and it'll lighten the shot thinking it's really dark.

Thanks Ian, was doing my head in trying to work out why they came out different.
