Or should that be fail?

Hands up who was expecting a rover v8?

That looks nicely done, although I reckon you'd be all over the road with only 50bhp, never mind 100+

I like that. Super-tidy execution.

Unlike the wheels and tyres, it is hoped that the suspension and brakes got upgraded to match.

That apart, it looks to be a well executed installation.

Very impressed with that. Sympathetic to the look and feel of the original car with the end result leaving it about 100 times more usable. Must be hilarious to see it in the outside lane.

There will be plenty of originality types who will despise it, though. In a lot of ways it reminds me of the Makela Auto Tuning Model A running a BDT twin-cam - although if anything that car was even more impressive......

Here's a more up-to-date MAT link:

The detail is incredible. MAT seem like a rather impressive company - they're currently rebuilding a Group 4 Celica and two Michelotto 308 GTB rally cars.

I really like that. So much better than these hotrods with their silly bucket seats, flared arches and ridiculous paintjobs.

Full of Win as far as I'm concerned :D

I really like that. I like the original look and colour scheme. I'm glad it's not orange with a chain steering wheel.

That's just fantastic, in my callow youth my motoring magazine of choice was 'Street macine' in which every edition featured one of these 'sit up and begs' usually with Ford V6 power and lurid metalflake paint jobs, so this one is quite refreshing..

'All the above'.

That's a fantastic job, so clean and the engine looks perfect in there.

NICE 8)

Im all for things like this, it keeps a classic usable and if its usable its more likely to survive and be appreciated for years to come.

Nothing (given time and money ) is irreversible, even horrible chavvy modifications (which this isnt one) just in case some purists want to restore in the future.

That is extraordinary. What engine is it? 1250 zetec from a festa??

Posted

Great engine, available in 1250, 1400 and 1600NA and Turbo. The latest Focus has a 150 and a 180 brake option from this engine. I bet that would make a later Anglia tootle along quite well.

"These hotrodders" have been building stuff like this for years..........."silly bucket seats, flared arches and ridiculous paintjobs" are all pretty ancient [i.e 70s/80s] concepts

I take it the Zetec-se just bolts straight onto any old FoMoCo gearbox, like any other lump?

Posted

That's real nice, A proper sleeper, I'm guessing it's the 1.25 lump, they are quite nippy for the size of them, I got told that they were joined designed with Yamaha which could explain the eagerness from the little lump.

I do hope they have upgraded the brakes though!

actually, it doesn't, you need an adapter plate. Mondeo/escort zetec will bolt to an old ford box - I ran my mk2 cortina on the original gearbox behind an 1800 zetec - but the se and the duratec have a different bellhousing pattern.
