Shite colours in modern cars

MK5 Escort

I have just sold this radioactive coloured Scenic:

To get bonus points it even (predictably) had a nice shade of brown round the rear arches:

Well I say sold, but the buyer has not picked it up yet. He is coming at the weekend. Suspect it will be retiring in the sun of Africa.

interestingly, I saw a Clio in this colour yesterday. Don't recall seeing one in that colour before.

The Insigina (deliberate spelling) brown is called Mahogany. Looks fucking well ace with cream leather.

The Corsa comes in a colour called Guacamole. A sort of "off yogurt" greeny beigey white. Looks OK. Park it next to a white one, it looks even better.

I could have sworn I saw a brand new Fiesta the other day in Beige. More of a Nuttall's Mintoe colour TBH. Nothing on website though.

I found the mid/late 1990s metallic copper used on Fiat Puntos was pretty cool. Here it is on something more exotic:

Used more recently, I become quite fond of the beige colour used on the BMW MINIS.

I don't think I've ever seen a car in that colour, is it faded or did it come like that from the factory? It's bloody awful.

My mum had a new Astra in 1994, in this colour:

It was one of the first years of that colour, she thought she was being so different - who's going to spec a green car?

Well, it proves a point that just an image search for "Mk3 Astra" bought out more in that colour than any other. Common as muck!

I'm at the risk of being el negativos but that colour on the corsa really shows how awful the basic shape is.

Oh and Nissan had a copper colour on mk1 S12 Silvia;

two tone FTW. maybe.

Beige Fiesta is a winner, seriously if I was buying new that would a contender.

CIH: Yeah, to say the Fezzer and Korsa are pretty much the same shade, one works and one really really doesn't.

Actually seen one of these in that colour - same age plate also missing one of its front wheel cover already.

And this.

I think this looks amazing. And I hate Insignias.

Lexus offer a similar colour on their IF-A supercar as well. 'Moon Stone', I think it's called. You could get the Honda S2000 in a similar hue, called something like 'Silverstone Brown'. If I can ever afford the latter, I shall not buy an MX-5, I shall buy one of these in that precise shade.

Somehow Alfa Brown doesn't have quite the same ring as Alfa Red*

* except of course in Autoshite circles :D

There have been a few gold concept cars at recent international motor shows. Much like there were white ones before that became a market trend on production cars. My tip for the next retro colour trend.

Further to Station's comments about fluorescent Jags:

between 92 and 94, the XJ40 range could be ordered with whacky colour schemes from the Insignia range. Most garish ones went abroad, but there are still some knocking around in UK. There was one Saturn Orange DD6 sold to a Hong Kong customer,1 Rose Bronze 4.0 Sovereign sold to Belgium and 1 Sandstone DD6 also sold to Hong Kong.

2 UK customers ordered Lavender (same as the Series 1 colour) cars - one was an XJR. 4 UK custmers (and a load of Germans) ordered their cars in Mahogany brown.

The fluorescence comes from the interior wood staining options. Yellow and purple wood staining was an option - only Hong Kong customers ticked this box (I have actually seen a yellow stained one and it really is Stabilo Boss!). The only purple stain optioned car ended up being shipped to Oz by a scrap dealer and parted out.

Here is a Mahogany car with interesting non-matching woodstain and carpets. Car ordered like that. After several lines of coke presumably.

Who needs to conform to popular taste when you're sufficiently loaded?

The VW Polo is in a colour called Apricot, I had a VW Type 3 Fastback which I painted the same colour. Really looked pretty good on a classic. Not so much on a Polo.

When I started work in 1983, the company had a salmon pink mk2 Escort as the pool car. I was told they bought it for peanuts directly from Ford. It was an experimental colour; after spraying a few up they decided no-one would buy them and sold them off cheaply. Any truth in this?

Talking of pink, any thoughts on the Fuscia coloured Honda Jazz's? I would guess that colour reduces the potential second hand market by approx 50%! i do like the pale green ones though.

In the late 90's I was in the company car scheme ( before they taxed you to buggery for having one ) and because I therefore didn't give a stuff about a) engines blowing up and B) resale value on an 'odd' colour I saw my obvious choice was to order a Alfa 156 in that very odd 'Invalid car grey/blue colour.

I liked it because it reminded me of the Caribineri Alfas and I was all Italian Jobby at the time (and it was a break from the normal red or silver ones).

After I ordered it Alfa told me it had been discontinued (bastard) so I went for a white one with green interior....lovely motor.

With the demise of the company motor and most people spending thier own money I suppose eeryone is more careful now and ordering silver all the bleeding time ... shame.

I live near a complex of offices and in the distance I often see a Citroen DS3 in a shade of duck egg blue that used to be available on Datsun 120Y Sunnys from the 1970s. 8)

In fact, just like this Fiat currently on eBay:

I've always hated this VW colour, it looked shit when it was current:

(Sorry for pic quote) Anyone remember the frogface Corolla colour that was really similar to this, except even worse? That has to be the worst modern paint choice I can think of

Speaking of 'Salmon Pink' Nissan also knocked out a few Micras in said colour:

Not seen it on any other Nissan models.
