Well, it is a car for peasants, and it IS revolting. :D

Do you really need to ask? Get it bought.

Posted

No, I don't think you should buy it as old cars are awful.

OF COURSE you should buy it!

Posted

Buy it, fix it, sell it to me cheap.

Having imported loads of these back in the 90's ,and still the proud owner of 4 -I would offer only 1 small caution.

Brakes. I note hes got new shoes -and my guess is that he's discovered that he needs to get the hub off to change them -and that can be really difficult without the proper puller. There are usually az few on Ebay.de- its a real bitch without one.

Aside from that -they're a blast to drive -once you've got threough the usual 2 stroke snagging. MOT'd its worth double that price.

Good luck

I showed this car to Mrs garethj last week when it was listed. I said that I was deeply in love with it, and it was like a forlorn little puppy that needed my help.

And she just cackled :(

How much are you going to pay for it?

Posted

Late ones like that don't need a puller for the drums- I think the change was around 84?

Posted

You have to ask????????????

I expect pics of its arrival chez Peasant, tomorrow night!

Posted

Get it bought and bosh the pics up on here quick smart. 8)

Final assembly on the Trabbi production line. Makes Speke production of TR7s look like crafting a Fabergé egg

Posted

Not my money = YES!

I expect a complete write-up with millions of pics of the subsequent welding/fillerthon.

Seriously though, it would be a cool motor!

Posted

How terribly disappointing, old chap.

It sounds like your clutching on to straws mate, It's guttening when you get your hopes up and someone gets there before you isn't it.

bad luck old fruit - maybe Pete-M can help you source one from Czech/Slovakia....

i would like a trabbi but would prefer one with the polo engine

Posted

There was a trabbi for sale on RR a month or so ago. Cheaper too IIRC. Not round the corner from you though.

I could use a chainsaw.

Remember to wear your PPE.

I had one for six years, bought £400 in '99 sold in '05 for £380

If I had the choice, I would rather crash a damp cardboard box.

It was OK, brisk but thirsty, 35 odd mpg, which for 600cc is shit,

and although it would cruise at 100 all day, my ears started to bleed at about 80 (kmph)

and its not a daily I would have again - ever

That was mine.. never did get round to finishing it.

Hadnt spotted it was a late one. never owned anything later thahn late 70's -so you may be right. Bloody puller was a flaming nuisance.

Looks like a sensible Eastern bloc update.
