Lankytim Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Sometimes i'm glad i'm not working on the roads anymore! This happened on the A90 near Aberdeen last week. Apparently these dash mounted cameras are getting more and more popular among professional drivers to catch motorists who cause accidents and then drive off, not that this motorist will be driving anywhere. Undercracker fouling moment. Aftermath. Corsa driver was OK(ish) and has been charged with dangerous driving. No idea about the lorry driver .
fiatdaft Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 saw that the other day, deffo a nappy filling moment !
warren t claim Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'm surprised at how well the Coarser held together in such a horrific accident. The passenger cell seemed intact.
dollywobbler Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I think the truck driver walked away from it too from what I've seen. Horrible. It really does make these cameras seem a good idea. I think this one is even more incredible.
Richard Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I saw the cement all over the road, I wondered what had happened. This is where she went wrong, she should have gone down the left fork here. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie= ... 5,,0,15.62 At least the lorry driver didn't get the blame this time. Yet.
CreepingJesus Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Scary. The way the still flicked on, when the video loaded up, I thought the Corsa had come across from the right hand lane, and got turned around. The reality was much worse...It's a bad bit of road, that and the few miles leading to it. I've had a few close calls there, but nothing like that.As Richard's pointed out, the lanes off the A956 aren't very well laid out. Lord knows what it'll be like once Aberdeen FC's new stadium is built, just back from there!

It'll be ok on saturday afternoons cos the average speed will be about 10. /fantastical overestimation of mighty don's support
warren t claim Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Arse! I'm off to Aberdeen in two hours! Wish me luck!
Richard Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Arse! I'm off to Aberdeen in two hours! Wish me luck! It'll be fine. Just watch your speed. There seem to be a lot of mobile cameras/police patrols on the A90 at the moment, as well as the fixed cameras.
warren t claim Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Are you going to get some sleep before you come up? I have and I'll be sleeping on the way up as well. Double crewed FTW!
Rhythm Thief Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Crikey. Could have been a lot worse ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVQYRodNwvI
Station Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 The investigation results came as mechanical breakage in that video. The transit style van really held on even though his rear end was probably knackered.
retrogeezer Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 in the still it looks like the corsa driver has a map or something on the steering wheel...
warren t claim Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I know most of you haven't been able to sleep for a couple of days knowing that I'm off to Aberdeen to negotiate this OMG IRT DEATH INTERSECTION. Don't worry though 'cos I made it back alive. It's actually quite well signposted. The junction is still being repaired and they're fitting a new lamp post. The grass still hasn't grown back yet though.
Rod/b Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Christ what happened there? Something must have let go in a major way.
oman5 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 corsa driver was lucky the truck driver was on the ball. he was already swerving away when he hit- full front collision would have been catastrophic
Lankytim Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Christ what happened there? Something must have let go in a major way. IIRC originally they suspected the driver had committed suicide but then they discovered a kingpin and broken and caused the drivers side front suspension to collapse.
ashmicro Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Crikey. Could have been a lot worse ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVQYRodNwvI That actually made me shiver. Horrific.
scooters Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 very sobering indeed - just shows you can be driving safely, minding your own business when some numpty comes at you on the wrong side of the road... mind you I know the junction as well and the sign posting is terrible - that is no excuse though the Corsa driver should have to retake their test thank god no one was killed. last year one of my many rescues was by ++++++++ recovery - they have the contract with the police doe Liecestershire and Derbyshire to recover accidents - the driver showed me into the restrictded area where they have the crashed cars waiting police analysis....horrible stuff - modern vehicles of all shapes and sizes completely totalled with blood and other stains all over the interior - I remember one which had a telegraph pole - it was a Merc - through the windscreen on the drivers side and through the drovers seat and out the bottom of the car. the pole was still in situ and there was a LOT of blood - clearly the pole had chopped the driver in half. made me slow down I can tell you the best thing they could do to young drivers would be to give them a tour of a site like that...just to make them think a bit
