real world fuel consumption

I've always been a bit dissapointed with the fuel consumption of my 607 HDI auto that I use everyday

Mind you now I've removed the cat, DPF and EGR I'm upto 35 mpg which maybe isn't so bad. Used to get 38mpg from our 806 though.

I just discovered http://www.fuelly.com/car/ where you can look at other peoples consumption figures

Blimey

35mpg doesn't seem so bad now

Is that a US site? As US gallons are smaller than UK ones...

I get 37-38mpg every time in my Rover, always work it out ay each fill-up. Dont knwo why I bother, its always the same!

when you look at someone's figures there as a US | UK | Metric thing at the top left.

if you click on UK it converts everything to Imperial gallons and miles

I'm not going to look at this site. It'll depress me.

I've got a phone app which I use to put in my mileage, cost per litre and total spend on each fillup.

It tells me that my worst is 33.6mpg and my bestest everz is 42.4mpg. Average is 38mpg or so which isn't bad from a 318i .

It also depressingly tells me I spend over £300pm on petrol.

Just chucked some near-as-damn-it numbers in here for the Prelude, tells me its getting a solid 30mpg. Not sure if thats good or bad TBH, I think I was hoping for more :|

I can't work it out for the Scimitar as I didn't fill the tank properly on the first fill and didn't note the mileage. I reckon I might be getting close to 25 though, which isn't bad. I'm in no hurry to use up the next tank though, but at least I did zero the trip.

I have a small "AA motorists notebook" which has been with the car since new to record mine in :D

yeah but if you stick it on the site other people can see it, which is useful, isn't it?

Think I get about 18mpg out of the TVR...if I tickle it and drive like an old twat....which I don't.

Good site!

I recently spent a dull 15 minutes when I should have been working creating a POGOMATIC MPGOMETER in MS excel, it does much the same job but with less fuss.

A few brim-brim weeks saw me average 32mpg in the BMW, which were it not for the arse-creaming price of pez would probably be acceptable. The Galaxy is returning a respectable 49mpg over the same routes/conditions, which I find frankly amazing being that it weighs a metric shitload, but it's done pretty much the same over 3 tanks... I guess that the combo of massively overdriven 6th gear on the motorway and soggy handling on the twisties encourage more 'sensible' driving.

Just worked out my last three fill-ups in the Galant - 22.3, 19.8 and 21.2 MPG. Mostly 10 minute runs to/from work to be fair, but still pretty impressive for a 1.6. Maybe the carb wants looking at, can't be bothered.

Most ever from my C4 was 57 MPG. Averages 40-42. Driving like a twat and upsetting all and sundry at Castle Combe netted me 11 MPG for my trouble.

BLERT POUR LE DERV.

Mirald does 34-35.

I've never tested the Minx but guess at 30ish.

Oxford used to be 32 on a motorway journey with the 1622 lump but was easy to get to do 34-35 with the 1798.

Borgward has so far done about 300 in my ownership without a fuel tank or engine.

I'm always surprised how much I get in my Integra, sometimes I do drive it stupidly quickly but then I find and do drive it very steadily for the most part. I reckon I get over 30mpg, which seems a little better than those on Fuelly.

Finally looked at the site - in UK mode, a BMW 318i in 1994 E63 flavour averages 31mpg.

teh fook?

I certainly don't drive like a nun, I do a fair bit of urban driving, and I'm getting 37-39 or so. These people must be sideways at every roundabout and leave the engine on overnight to save starting it in the morning.

I drive a carb fed rover V8, so the thought of working out the fuel consumption scares me.

just drive and keep it filled. and it runs best on the expensive stuff :(

Most people don't drive very well, I bet a lot of fuel is lost through poor driving - over-using the brakes, labouring the engine, etc.

I've now had two cars with swingometer-style MPG gauges - the E36 has one, and my Scirocco. I find them quite useful to learn economical driving, you can see how just pressing a little harder on the throttle might have fook all impact on speed but the MPG drops 10-15 or so. Cue lots of downhill advantage. Just seems to have more impact than looking at a trip computer average.

Besides, I've not set the OBC up in the BMW properly so it's reading 16.9mpg average. RONG!

I'm currently running 2 Renault 25 TXE 2 litre autos. They're equipped with on-board computers which give the average fuel consumption. One has been working out the average since I bought it 6 years ago, and in that time it's averaged 22.5mpg. The other I've had on the road since February 1st. In the cold weather in February it averaged just less than 20mpg! Now the weather is warmer, it's slowly creeping up, and reached 21.9 today.

Shit, I'd be crying every time I went to the petrol station which would be twice a week for a tankful at your rates. I can just about eke out 7 days on high 30's, and a 50-litre tank. Costs 60 quid to fill it from the top end of reserve. Dunno how you lot do it.

Innocenti isn't on there (bizarrely enough) - closest I could find was a Perodua Kancil 660, which presumably would have much the same engine and weigh only marginally more. That does 47.7mpg, which is only slightly less than I've been getting out of the Inno. Some bloke with a Volvo 164 reckons he gets 25.3mpg average, which is bloody impressive as mine does about 18, although his is fuel injected so might be slightly more efficient.

I love fuelly (as long as you remember to click UK in the top corner befor eyou scare yourself), although there are a lot of holes if you're trying to research consumption for vehicles you own/might want to own.

For that, http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ is ridiculously comprehensive. (unless you're after an Innocenti)

Jag does between 14-25 mpg. Personal best following Billy'n'Mark back from Robs - 27 mpg :-o

Jeep does between 10-18 mpg (but the mpg-o-meter shows scary US gallon figures)

604 dunno, but it'll be just as crap.

Escort has used less than a gallon in 18 years, so win, possibly.

Ah the old quote your MPG thread.

The silver '79 Celeste used to return 28mpg average

'86 Nissan Bluebird 2.0L SGL Auto gave 32mpg ave

'86 Hyundai Pony 1.5GLS gave low 40's ave. (53 mpg on a long run once!)

'86 Toyota Corolla (AE86) GT Coupe did 32~33 ave

'95 Nissan 240SX 30mpg ave

'94 Mazda 121 1.3L auto 30~32 ave  (28mpg on a long run to Cheshire on the M6!)

'01 Hyundai Coupe 1.6L 36 ave (47.5mpg on long runs from S. Wales to Scotland)

'04 KIA Picanto 1.1L auto - 36mpg ave initially, now getting 40~44 ave with a high of 46mpg to date.

'10 Dodge RAM 6.7L diesel - 17.5mpg (US) like clockwork so far...

The car I was chauffered in at the weekend was selecting the cost equivalent of 160MPG. :P

TV2 consistently averages 35mpg in daily use, according to its fuel computer. The Volvo averages 28mpg, according to my calculations, which isn't bad for a heavy 2-litre car with a Baderbox :)
