Wow! 8) Can't wait to see the finished article. :D

This is pure class! Good luck with the MOT, and keep us posted!

BTW, are you doing the work yourself?

Posted

^^^ No, I'd just balls it up. A localish bodyshop is doing it. They've done various remedial bits on my other cars but I think this will be the biggest job they've done for me . They do a good job, I would say mid-priced, and take great pride in their work...mainly on modern stuff...I'm sure they think I'm a complete weirdo and always seem bemused by the stuff I bring them!!

You made the right choice, I guess it must be a nice change for the guys in the body shop to be wroking on a classic car instead of moderns all day, have they said much about the Alpine?

Hmmmm....what started as a repair to one door and a tailgate... then a lower half respray has now turned into the MUTHA of restorations!! I now can't afford to go out or eat for about 3 months!

Eating or going out are things that can easily be foregone in order to find yourself in the AS pantheon!

Oh, old Boobs has done enough to earn a seat at the Captain's table... the man has more Tagoras than the rest of us combined!

Ah, I couldn't remember who was the guy with the Tagoras! REZPEKT to Mr booby!

Well...the final update... and 3 months after arriving on a gloomy March evening, the Alpine is back on the road after some (expensive!)TLC!

A complete doors and fittings off respray has transformed the car to its original gleaming glory!! The finish is, in my humble opinion, as good as factory.

Brand new old stock wheel trims adorn refurbished steel wheels.

Where was once rust, is now new shiny metal.

Inside the boot is immaculate, again with new metal on the inner wing where rust was eating through.

Every interior panel has been scrubbed then scrubbed again to rid of all 'old woman' mustiness and muck!

The seats and carpets that were once saggy and stained postively bounce with summertime freshness!

Freshly painted bumpers and new period plates are all attention to detail that are worth their while, I think.

Engine fully serviced and steam cleaned. Full brake overhaul. Even brand new gearbox oil was not too much trouble for this old girl!

Where the silly old bint had lost the headrests, correct cappings from an LS spec cover the unsightly holes.

Freshly taxed, freshly fuelled and ready to roll!! She drives very well...typical Talbot clonky gearbox but I can forgive that. I'm glad I decided to do all the work in the end, rather than give up on it...here's to happy Talbot motoring!

well done,i bet that paint is better than the factory finish! :D

That is really as good as it gets

You deserve a knighthood, genuinely awestruck in the literal sense of the word, that car is an important and historic social document and should be treated as such!

That is fantastic!

Can't remember if I've ever seen one of those glass Talbot expansion tanks that wasn't half full of rusty water... :D

Ha! Ha! This was half full of rusty sludge! I had to jet wash it on the patio!

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Glad you like it! :P

I have nothing of substance to add to this thread, but THIS IS UNREAL. Pure Autoshite porn.

SHIT. THE. BED.

That truly is stunning, hats off to you for investing in a car that most other people wouldn't give scrap money for. The results are breathtaking.

I imagine this must be one of the earliest facelifted models on a W-reg is it?

Posted

That looks absolutely fantastic. Well done, Boobydoo.

Posted

Agreed, that's truly amazing and worth 10,000 Stag/MGB/etc resto's.

Yes. There were some 1980 V reg's though. According to our new howmanyleft 'bible' , there's only one other 1981 registered Alpine in existence!
