I often wondered how the strathcarron became the Marlin '5exi'. It looked like it was gonna be a class motor, then ended up being a punk-ass kitcar with a ridiculous name.

Posted

It did have 5exi scribbled on the side, I just thought the owner fully appreciated what "irony" meant....Looked like it had been written by a proper spack though.....

Where are those Peugeots? That's a super rare early oval light 204, I didn't know there were any about. Chap who owns a garage near me has a mint 21,000 miles from new 204 saloon from 1968 which I keep meaning to get pictures of.

Pugs were in South Ockendon, Essex.Up til recently he had a DS Familiale as well, well tatty, but I liked it....

By the way (and you may know this already) motors like the pink Bentley and the carbon fibre Porsche are just covered in vinyl wrap - costs about £1500 quid apparently. I saw a Mitsi Evo at Oulton Park done in a matt black and it was very well done.

I did take others, but they are either blurred, or some biker-type walked in front of me....

Posted

Yeah that Basildon sign really is ridiculous, what a fooking waste of money :x Nice pics though. I've never been to the A127 diner meet, worth going, or is it just full of Old Skool Fordz...?

Posted

Mainly OSF when I was there - first time evar - 2 Capris, 2 Mk 2 Escorts Estates, Mk 2 RS2000, 2 mk 1 Lotus Cortinas, couple of mk 2 Cortinas, a 1600E, and a GT and a MK 2 Granny with a Turbo on it.AC Cobra (not sure if it was real, ropey Astra...that was all I can remember, but it was due to run til late, and I got there 2.00pm ish, so others may have turned up...

Posted

Wasn't there meant to be a car show at Vange (?) Before this? I was looking at going but read that it was cancelled due to a water logged field.

Posted

Yep, Vange is just outside Basildon - apparently the site was in a terrible state after a car boot on Sunday.

Posted

Yeah I was going to go to Vange too, shame, next year hopefully :)

Hey I saw one of those 4dr saloon New Fiestas a couple of months ago on the A127 as well, although the one I saw was black and LHD. Essex reg'd and turned off towards Dunton so Ford prototype/final shakedown tester I thought. Doubt they'll be sold here.

That Datsun is lovely!, The green Mk1 Transit is the one that was also in the film The Bank Job and is running a 2.4TD from the later shape Transit

Posted

That was my first reaction until I noticed it was two-tone, think it's a Ghia.

Posted

I think the two tone indicates its an LX? Not such a common trim level anymore.

That Violet is amazing, superb spot.

Posted

That Escort is an LX, yeah - two tone, those trims and red stripe.

Ghia and GL both were single-tone with silver stripe, only slightly different wheeltrims (Ghia had "bolt holes" to look like alloys) and the ghia badge differentiated them from each other.

Posted

What's with a wheel clamp.....at a car show???Are things really that bad???

At Battlesbridge, Yes, Two cars got stolen from the field at the last show in May.

The Transit belongs to a contact of Freds, I remember her saying when i posted photos of it last year.

And that Escort is a 1.4 LX
