I wonder if there's a reason for the generic nature of most of the cars illustrated? Spot the HC Viva estate though, and the Triumph Toledo production line! :D

Well found Richard, thank you.

Crumbs, they should have got somebody else to write about cars, he must be trembling with rage by now. I bet a tenner he cycles to work.

Wow, that brings back some memories. That must have been high up my reading list aged 5 or so, I remember it all really vividly. Thanks Richard! :D

Is it me or would a convertible be a pretty poor choice for an armed robbery?

The Range Rover on page 46 looks like it has been drawn from an original RR press photo.

A 430 cubic inch Lincoln Continental should be acceptable for the purpose, especially considering it does have four doors... :D They didn't hang about you know, and were good enough to be Presidential limos for years. Having said that, if the cops have a 440-inch 1974 Dodge Monaco.... (can you guess which DVD I was watching last night? )

Yep, that one's in my collection, too. I remember thinking that a Plymouth Duster was a strange choice to have alongside the Mini and Maserati Bora...

Looking back it was drab as fuck really, wasn't it?

Awesomes.

Another one that was in my childhood collection.

I always found the shootout scene distressing, Lincoln Continental GR8 4 getting shot in da hed (ask JFK...)

I would like to live in a timber-clad home with double garage and Hillman Avenger. That would be LIVING.

I always loved this pic. Never noticed the LJK Setright meets Grim Reaper character in the Austin 7 before though. :?

I can imagine him looking like that if forced to drive an Austin 7.

There must also be an interesting story behind the couple in the green car :) A few pages back he was in it alone, shouting at her in the other green car, but now they seem to have made it up and she is now driving

I also had a copy of that book. I think it was the first car-related book I ever owned ;)

How many years has it been since oil was on the brink of running out and we all need to drive electric cars?

Waterstones have the "mid life crisis" one, along with some other witty* titles like "The Hipster" and "The shed".

I looked through them, not really funny. TBH you get more of a laugh from the originals!

I reckon the author was the same bloke who had his rep-mobile 'upgraded' to a Maestro derv in that early 90's video of life on the road, or whatever it was called. He seemed a little like a ticking time bomb, and I can only assume he went on to slaughter mans.

from a to b tales of modern motoring 1993 on ebay

That's the bugger. He must be the Ladybird author.

If they really did cry over a Maestro then they need to sort their lives out! Even a 1 litre Corsa D isn't worth shedding tears about.

I looked through them all in "Berts" in "Brighton".

Ended up buying "The Hipster". The rest are OK but that one is so funny I damn near shat myself.

"Petr runs a micro-still from the basement of a condemned electricity sub-station.

Here he makes craft gin, infused with sausage and toothpaste.

Petr is available as an app."

I had The Story of oil. Which pointed out all the things that are made with oil,how pre historic creatures got squished to make it, how it comes out of the ground and how it will all be gone by 1980.
