Some new snaps from the last couple of months.

Firstly this lot from the (rather dismal) Bovingdon Airfield autojumble, the Thames was a proper early 80's wob-laden timewarp:

One of the rarest 4 cylinder Farinas, had a chat with the old boy owner who's had it since 1971 and bought it from the original elderly lady owner who packed up driving after having an accident in it. The bodywork is entirely original apart from a pair of new steel front wings, the engine has only covered about 20 miles since it was rebuilt and the interior is currently in the process of being retrimmed. :)

Ok, so after a bit of a break from here I'm back, here's some more from the past few months:

The 309 Dizzler was a proper minter with only 37k on the clock- left a note on this as it brings back happy memories of the tatty E reg (NOT PROTON ZOMG) example which was the first car I drove round a field when I was 11. 8)

What a shame, nice early spec too (my favourite examples) in what looks like Emerald Green.

Posted

I wonder if that Dolly is saveable. It looks pretty straight considering the number of years it has allegedly been sat.

Posted

That A35 looks very sad. The daughter of one of the blokes at my work lives around the corner from that Austin in Hemel and he took a photo of it all crunched to show me shortly before you posted it up! Do we know what it hit/if it's being repaired?

P.S. That Moggy is wonderful, straight out of 1985. The FX3 needs to be saved, maybe Des fancies it to go with his other taxi?

Posted

The Dolly does seem solid in the right places, however according to one of the locals the owner is an eccentric (as usual) who keeps the curtains drawn 24/7 and never answers the door. I'm guessing the A35 will be getting repaired in the better weather.

Here's some more recent snaps, starting off with these from the car park of a local autojumble:

Excellent spots as ever Dan. On the subject of the Fish 'n' Chip shop, old Dad_Sterling used to own a Fish 'n' Chip shop back in the early 90s, the interior was pretty similar, the walls were made up of cheap thin chip-board type stuff decoratated in some tile shapes finished in some Browny-Beige colour.

A local mechanic had a right result with this. He often has old Yank stuff parked around his premises which is visible from a main road and sometimes gets approached by people looking to get rid of tat. This was a one owner car which was recently discovered in a house clearance, it needs a respray and some bodywork but you certainly can't complain for £200, plus the seller threw in a new battery. :D

^ Oh Lordy, I have the horn for that Reno Cinq! 8)

Posted

Wow that 5 proper beats my spot of one! I love Renault dashboards of this era!

I'm also feeling the Escort MK5 Denzil Pop. My old 1991 Ford Car brochure shows these to be BASIC. I remember discovering that I could get a few more 0-60's from our old works Escort Popular Diesel van by moving the floor mat out of the way to get mmore pedal travel. It felt so, so slow and that was compared to the utterly gazebo'd 1.1 Fester that my work also had as a hack at the time.

Posted

That R5 is a spot and a half! There can't be many like that even on the show circuit let alone still in normal use!, I recognise the Rolls Royces as well.

The guy with the Talbots has had them for years, I seem to remember a Horizon up the driveway for a long time too, a few doors up from there there's also a B reg Mk2 Fiesta laid up in a driveway.

In fact i think the Horizon is the car up the drive on streetview.

Some brilliant spots on here Dan, not least the super-early R5. My father nearly bought one of those Pioneer Bedford CFs - they were very posh in 1981. Too posh for us, in fact: we went for a T25 instead, which started rusting almost immediately.

An interesting Mk1 Golf and an unusual sight here, any idea why this would have been imported?

It's a Citigolf from South Africa - they only stopped making them there a year or so ago. There are a one or two around and the Mk1 Golf owners club welcomes them in; most seem to have been brought over by Saffers.

Posted

Indeed there's a couple of Citigolfs around there used to be one in the Oxford area which was wearing the colours of a South African hire-car company (my 'rents recognized as they had been to SA a bit in the 1990s and had rented an identical one!) alas I can't remember which firm it was, probs Avis.

Good spots there!
