I've just stumbled across this site whilst looking for something else http://www.vehiclerecovery.org.

It seems to be packed full of great photos, WICKED.

A De Tomaso Pantera!, What's the rear ended car though, A Vauxhall Ventora?

I'd like to think that if Autoshite has a office, this is what it would be like.

PC Pog to the rescue!

At last the story behind this Marina photo.

Still amused by the story, a Traffic PC cannot resist a grin. The vehicle had been driven by a company representative selling matches. He had light a cigarette and returned the (not quite) spent match to the box. The box was then tossed over his shoulder onto the back seat (along with his samples).

A few seconds later a load whoosh was heard and as he spun around to look, he flipped the car over .

A bit unpleasant this photo, I remember when cut and shuts were a lot more common though.

The very first recoverly job of the M25 motorway, Apparently it was still being built when this Datsun came of the road.

Another historical picture! This one show us recovering Ringo Starr's classic Mercedes saloon, which did not quite make it around the Robin Hood roundabout. He later collected the car and had it crushed. It now is a coffee table in his house

Fascinating Trigster. I was about to shut down and go to bed but I've spent half an hour looking at that lot!

I think your Pantera in the first pic is a Maserati Bora. Not sure about the saloon, but I'm thinking either Datsun Cedric or Toyota Crown...

I was too sure Eddy, cheers for clearing that up, Check out this video as well from 1987!, mustaches rule!

and this is is of a proper bodyshop!

and another video well worth watching!

Notice the trade plates on the Bedford. It was quite common for recovery vehicles to run on trade plates until the 1980s. I'm not sure they were even registered because they all seemed to end up on Q plates.

It's the little brother - Merak. The rear is different with the 'flying buttresses' or whatever they are called...

Nice find by the way!

That must be a pain if you need to vacuum the biscuit crumbs from underneath it!

I tend to think its more like this...

Lady looks like a prime candidate for one of Mr W.T Claims avatars.

Oh, and check out those British Gas Marina vans! Brilliant!

Methinks that Pantera is a Merak. Got non-glassed buttressess

I think it's a TR7.

Harris Mann was similarly optimistic...:mrgreen:

I think you'll find that it's Barrett.

Hmmm.

I see that in the recollection part of the site the oldster writes with affection about c&s motors and a man called Cox. If its the same company they are based in through least valley and are a bunch of feckin crooks.

No officer, I was minding my own business and concentrating on the road ahead... of course, I was changing my 8-Track at the time it happened.... Dizzy Gillespie, since you ask... and of course my er...secretary had dropped her purse in the driver's footwell and was bending down to retrieve it.... no, I just find it more comfortable to drive with my trousers off.
