Afternoon all,

Finally got round to applying for membership of autoshite, been lurking for a while and had many a laugh at various posts,

Not much to say really, I currently pilot a 1998 Toyota Avensis, not beige but snot green, live near Kendal in Westmorland (sorry Cumbria) and have had 43 cars in 21 years of driving, not much compared to some on here I know but seemingly a fair few more than most in the 'sensible' world of motoring.

Thanks for having me but if you'd like to just tell me to shut up and **ck off feel free; everybody else does :?

Welcome!

A list/pictures of your previous shite would be good.

Thank you gents,

Was going to write something about the welcome being warmer than the weather but it sounded a bit piss really :(

Welcome Doc, and thanks for the list. Encouraging to note two Jags on there! Some of us really like them... Had a 98 Avensis as a rental in Dublin back in, oh, 1998... and enjoyed it too!

Hello Doc and welcome! I like the idea of having to 'apply' to be a member of Autoshite :D

Thanks ER,

Always had a liking for Coventry's finest, My Dad had an XK140 DHC in his pre fatherhood days (FBV 140) and many childhood words of wisdom from him began "When I had me Jag.............................." so I think its in the blood really; the 1st one was a total dissapointment, 2.9 manual, cloth seats, bought it cos I thought it would be the cheapest Jag to own, big mistake, underpowered, rattly almost put me off them for life but the 4.0 Sov, totally restored my faith, just glided along and the sport setting on the gearbox scared me shitless first time I buried my hush puppy into the wilton via the throttle.

Funny thing about avensis's (avensi??) is that I hated the bloody things for years, cars for people with no soul and all that, now I'm preaching their virtues and driveability to all and sundry, oh well, where did I leave me slippers?

Thanks Alex, wasn't it Groucho Marx who said I would join no club that would accept me as a member? or something like that

You're lucky you haven't been given the cold shoulder.

Your list of former cars more than qualifies you to join the throng! Welcome...

hello and welcome to AS cant wait to see some pics, we like pics :D

Never really been one for taking pics, looking at them indeed yes, been swotting up on the posting pics sticky so who knows, an old dog may learn new tricks yet.

Really am impressed by so many people taking the trouble to say hello, feels a bit strange to have been reading your writings for a bit to now being the one written to/about, if you see what I mean,

The list of shite above is far from exhaustive, I haven't mentioned the 88 merc 190 2.0 or the 81 merc 200 Beirut taxi, the 3 ford escorts least said soonest mended the 83 Datsun (new) Cherry and my oldest shite to date a 1955 Rover P4 90 sadly lacking in the brakes department.....................................

Hi from over here!

Nay worries on the pic front. Of all the cars I've owned in the past (I honestly have lost count. Really.) I've probably only took about one or two pics of them and where these are now, who knows?

Welcome sir.Are you the doctor 102 ?can't wait to see some of those highly polished offerings you sometimes list on ebay.

Greetings.

An '89 2.9 Jag? You're not a truck driver are you?

Not the Doctor of ebay fame I'm afraid, wish I was 8)

Pete, uncannily I do have a HGV licence but gave up trucking in 2005 for the 'easy life' of sleeping/eating roughly when most other people were and actually spending some time in my house rather than some godforsaken layby somewhere.

I bought the 2.9 whilst still working in the haulage industry, it was a silver blue example, G631 RRN,

 was it the 2.9 connection that gave away my profession?

I'd love a 2.9 cloth 'n manual '40. Signal red preferably on black steelies.

Thinking about it, I have 2 welded together under my bonnet. They make a lot more sense that way.
