Swedish Spottings of Shite

Thought I should follow Brammys advice and show a few of my spottings over here. As I spend most of my days out on the swedish roads, I've started the slightly impossible project of trying to get a photo of every model sold in Sweden during the '70s and '80s. I know there's a few models I'll never find but at least I can try, right!?

Good to see your spots on here at last, and trust me, Fruttan has spotted a hell of alot! Is Sweden really good for finding old cars? Because Norway was alright, the value of cars certainly doesnt go down anywhere near as much as it does over here, people seem to really run them into the ground.

When i comes to finding old cars in Sweden, I travel around a lot for work so I see more than you normally would. But depending on where in Sweden you go, there's still a lot of cars from the '80s around.

I have only ever been in one Mercedes and it was identical to that and in Sweden.

I had a flat in a house owned by a taxi driver who had one, often gave me a lift into town in it before I got a car for my own use.

Every flat had an electric 'hitching post' to keep the car's engines warm during the winter.

Unfortunately I can't get a decent view showing them.

 

Borås has changed an awful lot since I left, hardly recognise it anymore.

 

*Not the same address as the taxi driver, moved a few times since then, this was may last address there.

Thanks for the comments! And yes I would love that Bluebird to, always wanted a diesel one.

 

The use of road salt depends on where in Sweden you go. I don't think they use that much in the city where the last pictures are from and I know some northen cities and the island of Gotland don't use road salt at all. Southern Sweden use a lot though.

 

As myglaren wrote, engine block heaters are common here. They do make it easier to start a car in -30 C!

One Scandinavian country uses volcanic ash on the roads - I guess it's Iceland?

The number of remaining SAAB 99 for each production year was publiced in a swedish car magazine recently, but I think you can get them if you ask the swedish car registry.

This was a real surprise! Don't know if I've ever seen one before. Funny looking rear wheel angle and a wooden block in front of one of the wheels to stop it from going downhill, but seemed to be in good condition.
