Seeing one of these today (the 1st in a long time) made me wonder - "whats the point"

Volkswagen Fox - never saw the need to fill a range gap between Lupo and Polo, at least in Europe. I think sales figures reflect this!

all of them are pointless - unless you count boosting van sales

Pfft, you're just saying that because you had to test that rancid Picyourasshole with the dogs in. How did that go by the way?

The Suzuki dealer in Kirkcaldy sold a hatful at launch, and then...nothing. I recall most of them being in Fife College's car park at the time!

The impractical 2-dr version of an otherwise fairly practical car does seem pretty pointless.

To that end, I'd nominate all these small 'CC' things. Take a practical 3-dr hatch, and by the virtue of giving it an electrically folding roof...lose most of the boot and the back seat. And double the acceptable weight of the original car. Bravo.

I can't think of anything utterly pointless in itself, but I find the generally the amount of models, engines etc offered by most manufacturers these days perplexing at times.

Spooky or what? I have this week been offered two red x90's from different people. Also, IIRC, they were offered in even more pointless 2wd aswell. I'd like one becasue of it uselessness. ;)

This is suspiciously like one of those MSN lists, so I will avoid :(

Hey chill out at least this wont be full of recycled dross like the msn one slating nothing but 1970's BL products from some 1992ish survey.

Unusual - most of the one's I have spotted have been in a tarts nail varnish purple sort of colour.

I'm not a fan of those overweight soft roader things, and am particularly offended

by the Audi Q7 which I'm unsure whether it is supposed to be an enormous car or a small lorry.

Personally I'd like to gather a bunch of like-minded folk at a set of traffic lights

& when one pulls up - point & laugh loudly.

A bit like doing dad dancing when some twat pulls up with the windows down

& excessive drums & bass bollocks emitting...

...but I digress...

BMW X6 gets my vite.

I was going to vote Suzuki as I read the title to the thread, but then realised it was nominated in the opening [ost....

Full agreement on the BMW 4x4s. Also Freelanders seem pretty fucking pointless as well as hopeless and useless. More? Vauxhall Meriva seems a waste of space. People carriers like the Galaxy are just for morons who have one child of three and plan on having another in four years time. Oh my God I'm pregnant with our second child we'd better get rid of this perfectly useful estate car and get dry bummed part exchanging it for some soul destroying sea if plastic bag of shit Galahembra which is less reliable, more expensive and has less luggage room. Twats. An Austin Maxi ram jam full of two adults in the front, four kids on the back seats and one in the boot sharing one square inch of space with a travel sick golden retriever on a seven hour journey to the top of Jocklsnd. That's a fucking people carrier.

And thats a childhood story for a few people of certain age too - great days :)

In a similar vein, we went Larne-Stranraer, Stranraer to Dover by road, Calais to Bordeau 4 up, with attendant baggage, in a 1300 Maestro. Did the same the next year in a Rover 216S.

As for useless and pointless cars:

The Vauxhall Nova. They had the cheek to call the povvo spec one the "Merit". Hateful, and devoid of merit.

The Ford (con)Fusion. Jacked up Fiesta with an identity crisis.

As others have said, The Golf Plus. A Golf, just a little bit pointless.

Any estate car based on a supermini.

And, slightly OT, any person who pays the premium for a diesel version of a city car, and does 3000 miles a year.

This may grate a bit but ive always struggled with Capri,s , especially the 1.3 or 1.6 jobbys , not that i wouldnt have one in a heartbeat mind

Lol, that was me. She took it away to "get fixed" and didn't come back for a retest. Thankfully.

Anyhow, back on topic. To me the most pointless cars ever are hybrids, when owned/driven by people who never go into a city centre and therefore never help improve urban air quality. They instead pootle about the countryside getting worse MPG than an equivalent ordinary car while carrying loads of toxic heavy metal around for NO reason at all. And they get a tax break and tend to look upon my ancient fords like I'm burning nuclear waste.

I lived just around the corner from the old Brenwood Motors in Meldrum road- Loved Suzuki's so much that I had an SC100 as a first car, followed by quite a few SJ's. Always liked being met at the door by the best sales dog ever- the Red Setter... forgot his name now though!

Also just remembered I still have a pair of SC100 rear trailing arms on back order- from 17 years ago, wonder when they'll arrive.

...or drive down the motorway flat out, there was one guy on another motoring forum who had brought a Prius and he was using every 'eco' argument to say how brilliant these cars are , 'built in a carbon neutral factory' ' they ship all the batteries in one go blah..' interesting fact that he never owns a car for longer than a year. I've got a 80's sci and tech magazine called Insight, their verion of a hybrid car was one that had electric motors and contained something that looked like lawn mower engine just to charge the batteries, no ecu's or software.

Although it's probably the only newish Rover I'd consider buying (apart from the ZT V8) I think the Streetwise is pretty pointless...

Rover Streetwise.

Polo "Dune" or whatever the chunky one's called.

BMW X1/3/5/6/7/8/9 etc

Anything with under 100 bhp per ton.
