Volvo T5 , maybe even a T5-R , Missus hates them which could be reason enough i guess.

T5's are brill - name me a car of such blistering pace which you can buy for £500 and will transport you and yours and a whole pile of shit at warp speeds??? the only downside is the real time petrol gauge

My one is an 850 AWD estate- not a T5 but still bloody quick and it goes round corners at stupid speeds

Theres something about taking a European car, 10 years out of date, and thoroughly Soviet-ising it that intrigues me.

M2141s_aleko-f.jpg

1987 Moskvich Aleko

In fact anything Pre-1991 from the USSR gives me a bit of tentage:

And my favourite:

The sinister ZIL. Something to do with some people being more equal than others

I've got a dripping semi for that Zil!

if you can't afford one an 80's Nissan Cedric is a good black 3 box alternative - total 80's jap box shite - wonderful day glow dash and poufed velour interior - oooooh yes!

I quite like the Mazda Demio but have no idea why

Same here!

Also the Honda CRV Mk1, a really simple pleasing shape for a 'soft' roader. Mk2 looked OK, current one is pretty horrible IMO.

Vespas and Lambrettas. Hopelessly unreliable (especially the latter), need fettling every fifty yards and not exactly fast by any stretch of the imagination, but just have that 'something' that really appeals and are good fun to ride.

Alfa Romeo 145. Hmm Ebay tonight then

You don't need to explain a lust for a 145. They're great. If somewhat prone to breakage followed by extensive open wallet surgery.

If I was opting for a 145 it'd have to be an early model fitted with the flat-4 out of the 33. Just for shite points really.

As far as moderns go I'm with Father Ted on the Berlingo. It just looks like an ideal family car- a modern Rancho. You can fit a large house in the boot too.

Without having to fold it up... :D

I have a Blingo turbodiseasel. It is the best car I have ever had. There - I said it 8)

Someone was definitely looking through Issigonis' briefcase for the file marked "ADO16"...

Hatchback though - an something I think the ADO16 should have been or become.

Skoda Favorit or Felicia. If I could explain why I wouldn't be posting on here :)

^ yes yes yes^

Just love these:

Not certain it's actually shite.... actually it IS shite: I knew from the day I was behind a very early MGF last year with a serious short circuit of the rear right hand light cluster, tape on the hood and because of its aged crappy rareness.

Also, sorry to nominate a new car but I am quite liking the look of the current Scirocco  (there's so many around I'll be sick of it soon)

You'll never guess what colour mine is, Graeme... :D

I think Vigo must've had a job-lot of Mediterranean Blue to get through in late 03!

Daft crushes... quite a few which've already been done, actually. Morris Ital, Moskvitch Aleko, FSO Polonez and the like. The Mk3 Transit pre-smiley... I think as someone has already said, if theres a van which almost welcomes you home it's that; simple, rugged, good looking and if you dip em in waxoyl about a third less likely to dissolve than if you don't. The clattery old 2.5Di engine is still music to my ears. Shame there are so few good ones still about. As an aside, I've never really rated the Sherpa largely because I'm the wrong shape to fit in one, and I can't drive whilst sitting on the floor.

The one I take the most stick about though, the one major daft crush which I've been unable to shift since my dad got rid of his many, many moons ago...

Doesn't even have to be a Lynx, or even a 1.5, or even a GLS, just as long as it's a proper Proton saloon (not an aeroback - ugly things) I'd have it. Still looking for a decentish one...

im on my second proper proton 1.5 gl saloon cracking car :)

Nissan Prairie. I have no idea why I like this Bluebird people carrier, but I do.

I was followed by one of these last week - through the arse end of Rugeley, of all places - and they look pretty good in the metal.

Is that a still from Midsomer Murders? Between Barnaby and Frost our telly tecs are holding up the shite cause rather well... :D

I've always had a hankering for one of these:

volvo-343_42487_1.jpg

I've no idea why. I suppose it may be the thought of a RWD hatchback that appeals, which leads me to have a slight hankering for one of these too:

Vauxhall%20Chevette%201.jpg

Though the hatchback isn't essential - a nice saloon or estate would also do nicely, or even a Chevanne.

These also look tempting to me:

1978_Chrysler_Sunbeam.jpg

as do these (even though I know the full sized model would be a better car in so many ways):

Old milk floats.

Commer vans.

I was gonna add volvo 340s actually, but it has to be a pre-facelift one like that. I really can't explain it, as I used to think these were hateful things, and the only ones I have experience of were both total shitboxes, rusting in all the places you dont expect a Volvo to rust and hugely unreliable(looks like I just answered my own question!). They are also ugly as sin. I must be getting old.

I must also confess a love of Commer vans, especially of the PB variety. Standard Atlases are another one, but i've never even seen one of those in the metal.

We had one when I was pretty small, so about 1964-ish. My mother didn't like driving it, so it only lasted a few days before it was traded in. I think it was replaced by the Morris (A60) van. I do remember the Atlas was pale blue, and yes, at least I can say I've ridden in one. :)

My guilty pleasure is....

The BMC J4 Van. I can't really explain why but since I had a ride to school in the back of one in 1978 I've had a lusting for a sliding door version. This craving may explain my Sherpa sympathies.

Posted

+1! In fact I have a big love for vans, pickups and estate cars in general.

Posted

I've always fancied a Standard Atlas as well :D

From the same company, how about the Triumph Mayflower? Everyone I've spoken to seems to hate them and thinks they're really ugly. I like them though, maybe for the same reason I like Maestros, because no one else seems to, and I feel sorry for them.
