Cortina Ghia fast lane magnificence.

CKE223T owned in 1988, 1.6 GL Maroon in colour.

Rusted out rear arches and front wings. Had a very tat 80's bodykit which fell off as it was only held on by woodscrews.

It ended up clipping the kerb as I pulled into a bus stop and going through a brick wall.

no, a real car in Ireland

lots of BS stories attached to it, but i dont know any facts

The GLS was a very rare option especially in 1.6 form

Indeed they were. Mine was the full fat version with fishnet Recaro seats, two round driving lights, fatter tyres (185 iirc) and the proper suspension with yellow Bilsteins and the Cortina estate solid rear axle bushes. It was a Hartford Motors demonstrator when new and had various extras like a Ford radio cassette player, Ghia alloys etc. It was a nice car which handled better than a regular Corty, but the ride was quite harsh with those shocks.

I very nearly bought a mega, mega rare 1.6LS on a W plate in Prairie yellow (the pale yellow used on Mark 3 Scrotes).

It was in Oxfordshire (Didcot iirc) and this would have been around 1989 when it was still a modernish car. I used to buy and sell a few and I went to look at this one privately. It was up for a grand, I wanted to give 800 quid and he wouldn't budge. It was a nice one though.

It seems some of the S pack models were rarer than others. As said - Ls models are v. rare. I never remember seeing many Ghia S models like my Dad had either. I would love to get my hands on a 2.3 Ghia S but I cant remember having EVER seen one?

Always liked those GLS models with the recaros though - Did the later Ghia S have them - I know Dad's didnt but it was on a V plate just before the final ammendments like the 3 stripes already mentioned.

From memory and I may not be 100% accurate

Reccaros were only standard on the later cars, early ones also used different material as well, there was a 2.3 Ghia S scrapped a few years ago, the pics were on the Cortina forums, not long after the LS got split

Was the GLS rare? Sweet!

Think it was a Ford demo car maybe as it was a MVW plate. It didn't come with fishnet recaros in ours if that was what was specified, just some very brown seats! I think the colour was rare in that orange though. Haven't seen another one that colour for a while.

I too have been reponsible for the death of a few cortinas :(

The Blue GXL in my pics was written off when an idiot in a polo smashed into the side of it and broke its back. It was a J reg as well.

The Gold Mk5 with the bling wheels was rotten so was broken for its engine and box for a mk3 I had

and the silver S reg one with the black door bottoms I saved from being banger raced, only for the guy I sold it to to write it off.

Hmm, another murdering Polo. Funny how it's the little cars that do all the damage. I've had cars written off by a Polo and a Clio, and Trigger was sidelined by an Ibiza, wasn't it? I feel another 740 coming on...

having watched Fifth Gear I'm now terrified of those bloody Modus things - smack one of those horrible little things into my cortina and i suspect the 'tina will be no more.I give them a wide berth on the roads!

A friend of mine wrote his mother's Polo off when he was 17.

He drove it into the front of a Hilux.

Eek, was he ok?

My 2CV was written off by a Ka

i killed a mk4 cortina estate once, by ramming it with a mk2 Granada when the driver stopped at a zebra crossing 8)

he had no brake lights and the impact pushed the tailgate in about 2 foot

all the granada needed was the bumper and bonnet corner pulling straight and a headlight replacing

A friend of mine killed a two year old MK V Ghia, it had stopped at a zebra crossing, he was a little busy changing the tape on his state of the art Radiomobile radio cassette which had a separate graphic equaliser.

Luckily he wasn't speeding as he didn't even attempt to brake, 30 mph limit. He was driving his first car a MK 1 Escort 2 door and I was in the front passenger seat.

That beats my serial Cortina abuse.

I've had a fair few of 'em.

RDP326R was the first, then a blue T plate that caught fire, then JLV832P which was a 2000E, then three 2.0 GLs, RVU151R, a 2.0 Ghia estate, JJA710T a blue 2.0 Ghia, a beige 1.6L on an S plate and a few more. Last one I had was a very late 2.0 Crusader estate - which was the only one I had with electric mirrors. Only ever seen a couple that had those.

Oh, I scrapped VHK473S. I regret that.

Always quite fancied a 2dr GT with a V8 though, or maybe a 2.3 Ghia 2dr with a 24v Cossie transplant.

Just been reminded of this billboard poster that was uncovered a couple of years ago when they started knocking down the old cinema in Lancaster. :)
