Great news !

It doesn't take a lot of humidity to make the BSI misbehave, so it has hopefully now dried out and there's no damage to the unit.

ABS light going out is normal behaviour, the system self-tests once the car moves above walking speed and the light will turn itself off if no faults are found.

Fingers crossed the car will be reliable from now on... Well, as reliable as a PSA product of that era can ever be !

I'm not 100% convinced on it really. I mean great if all it took was 4 minutes in the fucking freezing cold, standing with the bonnet open letting sleet get to the engine while a drivers window was fully down (especially after Saturday), and a bag of rice has fixed it then great.

But it only has to behave itself for as long as I can punt it on Motorway. I'm not hanging around waiting for the next inevitable thing to go pop on it, my bingo card is full.

So with that - any one for a roffle? (joke)

One please.  But only one.

Glad the BSI reset has helped.  My m59 would have been *such* a good car if it hadnt done exactly this, sunk a grand and then been scrapped.

Someone is taking the piss out of me.

Thought I’d have a gander at AutoTrader. Set the parameters and this is the first car that turns up.

Ive only ever had two cars that shat their wipers the day I bought them. And it turns up when I go to look at replacements for this!

I want to make it up, honestly.

Would you own it again?

I think if I were to look for one again I'd know exactly what I'd be looking for and going for. But those same things would cause me sleepless nights really so no. I wouldn't own those Land Cruisers again.

I still want, and will get, a Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon one day. But as a project. So I know it's already fucked before I attempt it.

Used to pick my lad up.

Engine Light comes on, bitching about an Anti Pollution Fault.

Its WBAC tomorrow, not motorway.

I did.

i am threatening the car with WBAC or the crusher in the hopes a threat will make it see sense.

Im likely to do Motorway still.

I found Motorway a total ball ache and they’ll still knock you down after making an offer.

@rusty_vw_man did well at WBAC recently but they will hammer you if the EML is on. Good luck.

I’ve only done it once and it was fairly straightforward. There was a bit of cracked chrome stuff on the lip of the bumper that wasn’t obvious on the photos and he noted it but didn’t really bother his arse with either.

With WBAC it has changed from before, where you used to state damage and you’d get the price. I found out that they don’t do that now but it could still happen when you turn up. So I’m not inclined for that, given the drivers wing mirror is sporting some gaffer tape 😂

We will see. As keen as I am to get it gone I’m not going to have my balls kicked over the price either. It’d be their own time they’re wasting.

WBAC have hidden the damage settings, so they can show everyone a silly price with a little note about some assumptions they’ve made (the main one being it’s in showroom condition!)

However they are still there if you poke around.

The perfect price when just did it was £3k, added general wear and tear related stuff online and it went to £2500. In branch (more accurately in B&Q car park) the chap got me back up to £2610. This branch at least were strangely reasonable and it wasn’t the buggeration i was expecting. They were most obsessed with making sure it had a parcel shelf to be honest, including taking a photo of it.

Yep, taking a photo of the parcel shelf is mandatory, as they’re quite expensive to replace.

You have to be the unluckiest man in the uk. I feel we should start a fund to buy you a parcel shelf…..

To be honest it feels so pointless in these as the boot door just lifts straight up. It doesn’t look like it needs one. There are some of these that have the rear window pop out, a parcel shelf makes sense then, but not really for the full door.

I still feel you need to have the correct* Berlingo experience with the hardy m59 model that you already know needs work but once done will give many years of good service and a thoroughly entertaining drive defying the laws of physics at every opportunity.

Simple 1.6.16v pez, no abs faults on this one as..... There's no abs 🤣🤣. No dpf,no turbo, no high pressure fuel pump but still hugely well* equipped with electric windows, POWER STEERING, and fully* functional central locking.

Pre limo tinted rear windows so the bairn doesn't get hot, both sets of rear windows tilt open and an engine fan that YOU fully control from a state of the art* device conveniently to hand.

Ulez compliant, maybe Caz ,could even possibly get classic insurance as it's 23yrs old all for JUST £300? So, when do you want to "old airrrrrrtttt yer annnnndddd"?

*Possibly not true.

Got to be honest I funny think even you could break one of these that easily 🤭🤭🤭

Posted

It could get very political at home if I chose an older one 😂.

Drove it this morning and the EML is on but drives fine. Shall take it to the garage at lunchtime for them to explain the anti pollution thing. Should be mapped out but, I think, it’s possible it’s a MAF sensor.

But, for a change, I broke the wipers. They did work until I wanted to put the washer jets on. And they came on continuously. At which point, in a bit of a panic, I managed to do something to it which has rendered the wipers and jets as MIA.

Looking for the replacement I can find this:

IMG_1202.jpeg.545333d2a176a184164a25588dfbb10e.jpeg

But I’ve no idea what connection it’s on about. Otherwise I can get the whole stalk assembly for the indicators, audio and cruise, as one unit. Which feels overkill for this one switch.

I'd be amazed if, in the throes of an ever-growing list of electrical madness, that 'washers and wipers going mental' was somehow down to a broken stalk as opposed to, say, the same nonsense causing all the other electrical silliness.

Not impossible, I agree - but perhaps unlikely.

Quite possibly yeah. Like i said yesterday I wasn’t fully convinced of my fix as the wiper was hesitant (just once mind). But now it’s properly goosed as the stalk itself is moving in ways I didn’t think possible.

At the garage at the moment, he’s looked at the codes. A fair few from he had it relating to brakes etc. but some regarding failure to communicate with the BSI. But I’ve no errors other than the EML which is something that’s being mapped out.

But yeah the BSI communication is one to think about.

So great excitement here yesterday when my French spare part turned up before the steering wheel I bought from Luton. Spent this lunch time mucking around to fix it.

It didn’t go all that well.

It’s the wrong fucking part. The new part has a ribbon cable, mine has a plug. Brilliant.

So I decide to just throw the actual Com2000 unit part number in to eBay to see what’s there. And I get nothing.

I put it in to Google and I get hits but all for expired/sold items. I get some hits for Italy and Germany but all mega bucks.

Trawled though eBay looking at all of these things and on the face of it there is plenty of choice, but then you notice that they are all missing the cruise control squab thing. Then some are missing the fog light function. Then some are missing the rear wiper function.

I then notice there are some that only have two plugs on the back. Brown and grey. And I then note some writing in the plastic - COM2005.

Not all of them have this COM2005 on it. Some have COM2008 on them. Other years are also available.

Having watched a video about swapping these over, the guy points out that you should remove the radio bit and the cruise bit as his one didn’t have them on. I unplugged mine and the do just unplug. There is an edge connector on the board where they plug in to.

Taking an educated risk, I look for one of these things with the appropriate fog light function (car has front lights), rear window, and as many of the cruise control squab and radio controls, and has the three connectors and COM2005 on the back of it. I found one sans cruise control squab but should be sent 1st class.

So we will see what happens.

If you want to fire over the reg or VIN I can try to look up the part number on the Peugeot catalogue?

Edit: found the reg in a photo on page 1.

Annoyingly Peugeot only list the entire assembly with both stalks. Part number (if its any use) is 6242.NZ

I won't tell you the price!

Posted

Can’t you snip the French one you’ve just got to separate the three tracks a bit and then snip the old plug off with a stub of wire on and solder the two together? I’d assume the electrical bits inside the stalk are the same, it’s just a different end?

Posted

Well can I say that due to my insidy bits not working as the ought, I spent 11 hours in A&E having tube fitted somewhere that'd make your eyes water and being worn like Sooty,  and I still think that my luck is better than yours.

Good luck on the road out of there, you definitely deserve it.

If you show us the number on the Comms unit it may help.

The cruise and radio switches are all the same, and easily swappable, so don't worry about buying a unit with either of those missing.

Sorry yeah - the part number of what came off is 96658430XT. What concerned me was is the board itself could/would support the cruise function but right now I'm happy it will.

Not really no, the new bit is a ribbon cable with 4 tracks on it. The current stalk are wired and there are 3 of them. Would be a lot of fucking around trying to work out which track went where. But I'll keep it anyway in case there is a time in the future I end up with a PSA product where it just so happens this fits it. Or put it on here in 10 years time for a fiver.

Peugeot have been annoying me outside of this car, so the fact it's all one unit doesn't surprise me. To be honest I don't think the unit should be taken apart, but it can be.

And yeah - they're a pricey item amazingly!
