Saloon & 'coupe' P5 shot is very cool.

I may or may not have spend some nights in one of the houses in the 'student area of Leeds'-pic, but all those streets look alike to me... did like it there though, for a few days.

Me too! In 1980 I was chased around Leeds, mostly Headingly area where we were staying, by a Mk1 Cortina Woody (more students). I had my 1967 Anglia Super at the time. This all happened in the wee hours but still, how Plod didn't spot us and throw us all insdie I'll never know.

Love the Volvos...

The 'Monza' next to the Polo breadvan looks very 'homely'.

Also, the Hull registered (RH) Onion, has a badge of the logo of 'Crystal' Ford just before the blue oval. Crystal were the Ford dealers in Hull and each letter of the logo was in a hexagon.

ANAL I know, but.... :roll::lol:

We were up in the Hyde Park area on Weds evening but unfortunately nothing of interest came out to see us :(

Look how small that Orion looks compared to modern day transport!

Already done! Last year I parked my Capri next to a rental car, a brand new Fockus; I couldn't believe how dainty my car looked compared to the bloated whale they expect you to rent.

For those not old enough: the Capri was based on the Mk2 Cortina, which was Ford's standard medium-size family car in the late 60s, much as the Mondeo is now. So one doesn't think of it as a small car, especially when the Fockus' predecessor, the Scrote, was chosen as the rally steed because the Capri was too big and heavy! And how big does Bodie's Capri look, sweeping sideways around the London of 1980? It could almost be a Mustang! Which of course is what Ford intended...

That was just down from the park towards the 'Royal Park' pub. It was about 7.30 in the morning on a Thursday and there were a load of lads sitting in the front garden drinking and smoking a spliff looking a bit the worse for wear from the night before. Was quite jealous, but my partying days are well behind me.

Probably because all the students have gone home and taken all their tat with them. In that area of Leeds you do get proper tat. in Headingley the students are a bit better off and all drive brand new cars. At my old place, I had a knacked 309 and an Imp outside on the shared driveway and they had 2 Minis, and I was the one that was working?

Not many of them had cars at all when I visited! But things were different 30 years ago, Britiain still had a bit of a public transport network so you didn't actually need a car if you lived in some of the cities. There was definitely a lot of sitting-around-on-the-front-steps going on though, some things don't change.

You could tell I was the one working, I had a car, even if it was 13 years old. Actually the first time I visited these friends, now I think of it, I had an 18 year old car! This was my first A40, and I remember having to fight my way across Leeds from east to west on a Saturday teatime, in thick fog. At 19 years old, in a free A40. Mad bugger! :D

Somewhere in the student area, couple of years ago I spotted this:

Agreed, the Focus is the same "size" and it positively dwarfs it. Those Escort/Orions were not cramped vehicles neither.

I dont underatand these car companies. They have a small car but they keep making them bigger. Then their small car is really big, so they introduce a new small car. Why? If they had kept the Clio the same size as it was when they introduced it they would not have had to have gone to all the trouble of making the Twingo.

My mum used to have a Xantia that fitted in the garage but was a bit of a tight fit to get in and out of.

She now has a Clio which is also a tight fit which i thought was odd. When I checked the dimensions the Xantia is only 5cm wider and is nearly 10cm lower. The Xantia was still longer by a fair bit but i wonder how much bigger the new clio is compared to the original.

Here is my cameraphone spot, an MG6 prototype in Manchester a fortnight ago.

Safety crap, euro-ncap and convenience toys such as self opening boots and anything powered by an electric motor.

Self opening boots are nowt new! Mk2 Cavs had them.

Posted

Yes, as long as the remote button controlled a sack-load of bricks positioned above the rear of the car. This feature proved unpopular and was dropped after a very short production run.

Hey my Cavalier has 'lazy locking',. I blame Vauxhall for all the bloat and needless features!

So did my 1962 Cadillac. If it's on a car, chances are it was on a Cadillac first. I know that doesn't apply to everything, but you'd be amazed how much we owe Detroit.

As I said in a thread yesterday Cav_estate tipped me off about a garage near him which has loads of crap outside, so on my way home i popped in and had a look.

Right load off stuff. The sort of thing other people seem to post on here all the time that I think doesn't exist. Obviously someone has probably seen all these before but they were all new to me. The Commer Camper was the best one. Last on the road in 2005.

The TR7 looked in good shape considering it had been off the road since 1991.

BUMP as i thought this was a great find (despite me being tiped off). Bit upset nobody has commented......

Yeah, it's a bitch, I get that quite a lot. Wonder why.... :D Nice shots though. I like the Bedford Utopian. Did you know that was one of the names put forward at the planning stage of the Edsel? Not Bedford: I mean Utopian.

The Commer definitely wins!

light-weight landy pantechnicon is also pretty cool, and i'm surprised to see the MGC just sitting there, they are worth a fair bit now.

Great spots, cheers!

Wasn't it 'Utopian Turtletop'?

That's the one. When you next visit Paphos you can claim your prize (that should give me time to think up something suitably shite).

Are you able to edit a better picture of this? looks a like standard L in Venetian Red one of the most popular colours for a MKII, there used to be loads in that colour round my way circa 1994.

This one also looks lovely again an L in another one of the MKII's most popular colours Midnight Blue

Yeah I remembered this when I uploaded the photo. It was driven by some old dear who had probably owned it from new. It was dented and scratched.
