If you're still about at 5.30 and need a hand with anything give me a shout.

Interesting purchase!

Good drive …. Overall impressions

A bit short geared, but apart from that, a very capable little car. The targa roof clips into the boot, and the rear bit folds into the space behind the seats. Clever design, which works very well

No scuttle shake, and no other rattles either. Seems to do about 35 mpg, and is fairly spritely.

Impressed!

very nice, whats powering it?

XR2i mechanics… and brakes/suspension and most of the interior trim… and, ironically, now worth about 20% of an XR2i now!

I always wanted one. Still would. Were very well regarded in their time.

Some had problems with rust where the chassis member emerges from the fibreglass around bottom of bulkhead somewhere, iirc.

Difficult to repair because fire.

I once almost set a brand new Dutton ablaze welding, with unseen fibreglass dust on the garage floor. It don't half burn.

Thinking about this. I'm almost sure the owners club bought an H4. With the assertion it would probably be the only one left quite soon.

I'm going back a bit* here.

The interior looks more like Fiesta Si colours, does it have the wingback style seats?

Looks great though! TSW blades as well!

A mate of mine was involved in making the shells for those, I believe.

Oddly enough he's pretty good with fibreglass.

I'm no Ford guy but the 90hp 1.6 16v makes me think Si, too.

A word of warning. My 'mate' Boring John has/had one of these. He will chew your ear off if you let him.

Try and avoid the North Oxfordshire area if you can.

Nice Fiesta BTW

Great car buy, absolutely disgusting steering wheel boss.  I guess it says FORD underneath and had to hide it?

I suspect that’s the case… or some kit car equivalent of an airbag? I will be investigating…

Probably right… My Ford knowledge is abysmal

Using a bunch of the Fiesta interior made a lot of sense I think, for a little car that generation, especially with the velour seats was a surprisingly nice place to be I always found.  Felt like a huge generational leap going from most of my cars up to the point I got a Fiesta on an L plate as a cheap runaround back 2005ish.  It was quiet, seats were comfy, stock stereo was decent and everything just worked.  It was one of those cars which I never consciously thought about at the time and I my really realised after I sold it what a good car it had been.  Even if mine was a lowly 1.1.

Was surprised to see a Zetec there, I'd expected 1.6 CVH.  Didn't realise the Zetec had ever gone into "this shape" of Fiesta - though admittedly my knowledge on the marquee is pretty sparse.  I'd think that would probably go quite well indeed in something this size and weight.

Interesting to see the rear screen arrangement which is basically identical to what Suzuki did on the Cappuccino.  I thought it was a really neat and clever setup on there.  Well until I found the gutter it drained into had blocked and dissolved the floorpan from the inside out anyway...

MK2 son just found one of these in a local scrappy, built from MK2 XR2 parts,

' oh , we're crushing it next week, nobody wants anything from it!'

He stripped it bare

Think he's about £500 up on the deal so far..😁

I’ll post a video of how it works shortly 👍

IIRC they unveiled this at the Kit car show at Stonleigh in 1996/7 and I was there! They were giving out free t-shirts with a picture of it on but only in adult sizes, so 12 year old me was a bit swamped. I wore it for years though, my dad probably still has his.

I tried in vain to get my dad to buy the kit… considering we were running a 1985 Nissan Sunny at that point and were absolutely skint adult me can see why he didn’t!

Anyway, story aside, great purchase! Always liked these and most Quantum’s. One day I might even purchase one!
