Had confirmation from classic shows about being all booked in as a club (only took them six weeks 🙄

Ive said about 20 cars,  looking through the replies so far and hoping for a couple of extras to join us.

It should be a great time. Anyone bringing a gazebo?

I’m doing my best. This is the state of play as of Friday teatime…

Guess which cylinder had the fail in the head gasket?

Yep, the end one! 😂

I'll be there, may be needing the 4wd of the land rover judging from the forecast!

Having been at the St Leger all day Saturday with a free bar, very little car stuff happened over the weekend but, come Monday morning, I was back on it.

Gave the block and head a bit of a clean up whilst awaiting parts…

then this morning, the gasket set arrived…

IMG_6351.jpeg.297a7ee9b63224ce311eb9de49877c16.jpeg

It’s the right one so this afternoon, the head was replaced along with new exhaust studs and nuts…

before torquing down and tightening everything up…

A couple of bits broke whilst disassembling, namely a chain guide pin, a pressure sensor and a breather hose assembly, all of which are on the morning parts van from MB in Blackburn.

I really can’t sing the praises for Mercs parts back up highly enough…for example, the press in pivot pin is on eBay from one supplier at £29 +delivery whereas the dealers are supplying one overnight from there warehouse and as I’m in the trade are delivering it free of charge to the door in the morning for £11 +vat!

I struggle to get bits for ten year old Peugeots yet Mercedes have practically everything available next day for 40+ year old cars, and quite often for less than pattern bits online.

I do love my old Benz’s!

Tomorrow will be putting it all back together and hopefully getting it running then, if all goes according to plan, I’ve got a few hours free on Thursday morning to get it next door for an MOT if I stand any chance of making it on Sunday.

Fingers crossed…place bets now! 🤞

Just realised I’m accidentally crayoning all over this thread with my own faffings! 🤨

I’ll update my own right now…sorry people 😳

Well in that case, let's have some of my faffings to balance it out!

I'm going with the Omega: it'll be this car's first and last show in my hands, because a couple of weeks later, it'll be wearing its old number plates again and going home to the previous owner.

I'm staying at Crewe Premier Inn, on the A530, on both Saturday and Sunday nights.  I've booked dinner and breakfast, so if anyone wants to join me and pay walk-in meal prices (!) you're welcome.  I'll see what the weather does: I might or might not set up my diecast shop on the bootlid.  I think most of my stock has come in job lots from various Shiters so I'm not expecting many of you to buy!

A nice day does always help though...

Maybe bring a coat. 🙄

What time do we have to be there for? I think I read gates opening at 10am - is there a cut off time for arrival please @brownnova?

Posted

As I'm not driving anything even vaguely interesting I'm just going to park in the carpark.  I've got to cover the office at work till half nine so might not be there for the usual cutoff of 11am.

Yeah, usual cut off is 11 for entry to the show. Exhibits can enter from 9 iirc

However, if entry numbers are low then they’ll probably let people in at any time!

Not looking quite so bad now.  A few spits overnight but hopefully dry all day.

Surely the C6 represents more jeopardy so would be the correct choice.

Definitely this! I’m bringing an elderly Merc so we need a bit of variety

I baulked somewhat at the cost to book there.  Over £100 for the night seems a tad pricey.

It’s not looking promising for me at the moment…everything was going swimmingly but I now seem to have developed an issue with a temp sensor…it’s very reluctant to start from cold and when it eventually manages to tick over, the temp gauge barely moves although the blowers are nice and toasty. Not only that, it seems a bit over fuelled when it does warm up so I reckon the jet tronic system or whatever this bloody thing has isn’t happy with a dodgy temp input.

I’ll keep fiddling but we’re not getting a new sensor at this point in the week 🙁

A question please - dad wants to come with me tomorrow. Is the exhibitor ticker per car or per person? It's been a while since I booked so I can't remember the details on the booking page!

Ah, found it (for anyone else also wondering!)

Exhibitor tickets allow entry for the exhibiting vehicle, one driver and one passenger (two adults total). Any additional passengers will need to purchase an advance visitor ticket or an on-the-day visitor ticket.

Because reasons, I'm going to be a no-show tomorrow.  If anyone wants an exhibitor ticket gratis and for free, PM me your email address.

So top tip, hide the third person in the boot…

Same here, I’m afraid.

I got very close and have actually been driving it around locally but the over fuelling is being a nightmare to sort and I’d really like to put a few miles on it once everything is fixed before venturing too far so it looks like a trip to Costco in the Evoque followed by the F1.

There’s always next year… 🙁

@eddyramrod is safely located in his hotel but can't get onto AS to tell people. He said he'll see you all tomorrow.

Hey gang, hope you're all good. It's rare I miss a Chumley but sadly I can't make it happen this time. I hope those who do get there have a  grand day out, I'll be thinking of you. Catch you next time.
