Cheap Bastard Challenge

Fuck it, have a 2025 challenge

500 quid utter maximum.  4 door. MOT. Usable. RFL wallet emptying also a consideration.

This is the important bit….. really needs to not be a million miles from Merseyside. Only reason being is a second spine op happened on Xmas eve and am not really up for long train or car journeys for a good couple of months.

Not a Smoll VW 🤣

May only generate a laugh, so what the hell 😂😂😂

Ken, how small/large are we talking?

I should be able to find some kind of shitter with an MOT for £4-500 from BCA but obviously it will come with no guarantees whatsoever

This 436k mile Nissan should be in budget but it's only tested till the end of Jan.

A BCA auction vehicle would appeal to my younger self like a tramp on chips, but now, possibly less so, although the fun of an auction remains.

The Astra estate appears to be the most appealing thus far.

436k, Jesus, that impressive. I had a London taxi that had less miles. Wow, just wow.

You’ll struggle to get anything from BCA for sub £500 once fees are factored in.

You really need to take to social media to find the bargains and jump in quick. Hesitate and you’ve no chance…

i10 are not bad little cars but had the white auto one that I sold on here.  Not keen to revisit. That looks like a mobile bio hazard 😂

I think Ken is just really after the fun of a collection mission 😅

(I say that as I'm looking at cheap cars again not because I need one but because I fancy a day trip out and the adventure of getting it back ... And I know Ken too)

I'm hoping something reasonably cheap that's pre-80s comes up soon as I have next week off and fancy the extra adventure. But I'm resisting as this is why my existing project cars don't actually get finished despite booking time off to do them.

I'm hopeful my fusion will be fixed soon and that will be up for sub £500. Also got a mini that will be sub £500. Both have short mots until the end of Jan. Fusion will pass no bother I would have thought. Mini will need work.

How about a 3.2d e50 Elgrand?

Ticks all the boxes apart from the MOT bit as it would be way above your budget if that was the case.

Ex @Robson3022 from this parish.

Needs some work obvs but starts, runs and drives.

Could be a nice early winter project and make a few bob in the summer.

I have Saab floppy top already, but that’s cool.

The Pug estate looks fair but a bit far away due to back surgery on Xmas eve.

Mini is a contender maybe, guess the heading of needs a bit of work needs a bit of clarification.
The Elgrand sounds cool but is a biggie and no mot would likely be an issue re: stashing it until fixerated.

Astra estate and Mini thus far 😊

Mini is a 3 door though just to mention. Bad lacquer peel. Runs fine but has a judder when braking that I think is more likely a bush that distorted disc. Only got it as a quick stop gap when the fusion broke.

I'll ask about the Astra tomorrow. He's given up driving,so it needs to go.Was planning to keep it as a standby for son,but X Type came along, and I've got his 325ci coming in for MOTing while he's working abroad. That might be up for grabs soon,if he likes the Jaguar.
